When the first aircraft hit the North Tower of the World Trade Center, pandemonium ensued on every level — yet one golden Labrador remained composed.

Roselle, a trained guide dog, was resting beneath her blind owner Michael Hingson’s desk on the 78th floor. As the building trembled and smoke began to permeate the air, Roselle performed exactly as she had been trained — and even more. She remained steady. Focused. Fearless.

Amidst the blaring alarms, frantic voices, and falling debris, Roselle guided Michael through the darkened stairwells — descending 1,463 steps. The journey took nearly an hour. During the descent, she paused only to assist others, providing calm amidst the chaos.

Minutes after they emerged from the building, the tower collapsed behind them.

Roselle’s bravery was not merely instinctual — it was rooted in loyalty, love, and profound trust. She led her human to safety during one of history's darkest days, never once displaying fear.

Roselle passed away in 2011, yet her story continues to motivate millions.
She was not just a service dog. She was a hero.
