Last week we said goodbye to Julie, who retired at the end of November. She had been in the veterinary industry for 40+ years (for only two practices!), and dedicated every moment to the care and well-being of her patients, co-workers, and clients. We will miss her humor, kindness, and skill. She was literally a superhero technician, doing everything from ordering, managing schedules, surgery, rooms, and so much more! Everyone at TVH wishes her the best in her next journey in life! 💞💞

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dr. Patricia Abo, former owner of Tolland Veterinary hospital, on July 18th.

Dr. Abo’s affiliation with Tolland Veterinary Hospital began when she was a pre-vet student at UConn. To complement her college coursework, she became part of the TVH team, assisting Dr. Douglas Fenity, the hospital's original owner.

After graduating from Michigan State College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Abo accepted a position at Bolton Veterinary Hospital, where she practiced both large and small animal medicine for 4 years. From Bolton, her career path led to Glastonbury Animal Hospital, where she practiced for the next 12 years. There she met Dr. Laura Roy and several other current members of the Tolland Veterinary Hospital staff.

Over the years, Dr. Abo maintained contact with Dr. Fenity who, when he was nearing retirement, asked Dr. Abo if she would like to work part-time at the practice to help out.

When Dr. Fenity decided to retire, he asked Dr. Abo if she would like to buy the practice. She in turn asked Dr. Roy, who had also started working at Tolland Vet part-time to perform surgeries, if she would like to be her partner. The rest is history. She, along with Dr. Roy, owned Tolland Vet for the next 18 years. Dr. Abo acquired a large following of clients due to her thoroughness, compassion, and ability to connect with clients.

Near the end of her career, Dr. Abo was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Her unwavering devotion to her patients and clients kept her practicing until her retirement in 2019.

What she cherished most of all was time spent with her husband and three children, and her little dog Jackie, whom she saved from parvo 12 years ago. She will be missed by all.

For all interested, the wake will be at Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave, Glastonbury, 7/22 5PM-7PM. The funeral will be on 7/23 at 11AM at St Dunstan's Parish, 1345 Manchester Rd, Glastonbury.
