faraway ranch Arizona USA Faraway Ranch, located in the southeastern corner of Arizona within the Chiricahua National Monument, holds a rich history dating back to the late 1800s. Initially settled by the Erickson family in 1882, it was originally a remote homestead, chosen for its stunning location amidst the rugged landscape of the Chiricahua Mountains. The Ericksons, Swedish immigrants, established the ranch as a place for cattle ranching, agriculture, and later, tourism. They built the original log cabin that became the heart of the ranch, and over the years, added additional structures, including a larger, more comfortable home to accommodate guests.

By the early 1900s, the ranch became a popular stop for travelers exploring the area, especially after the establishment of the nearby Chiricahua National Monument in 1924. The Ericksons, particularly Neil and Emma Erickson, began offering rooms and meals to visitors, turning the ranch into a modest guesthouse. The ranch was later sold in the 1930s, but it continued to play a role in the local community as the surrounding area became more accessible and popular with tourists.

Today, Faraway Ranch is preserved as a historic site, and visitors can tour the ranch house and learn about the lives of the Erickson family, the history of the region, and its significance to the development of the national monument. The ranch offers a glimpse into the early days of settlement in the American Southwest, and its scenic location remains a reminder of the area's cultural and natural heritage.
