Everyday I question how I got so lucky with this dog.
Yeah I know having a dog with some previous INTENSE reactivity most people wouldn’t consider lucky, but she’s changed my life in so many ways. I love this dog more than anything.

Just a little still with me and princess K other day. And to be quite honest I did not want to film so you know what I didn’t.
This is a little captures Kala checking in on me. To be honest I didn’t have any social media for a very long time until was Doug related stuff. And I think as a business owner we have a lot of pressure to be consistent and really utilize social media to help grow our business and so that people can see especially with dogs what we’re really doing and how we show love and care towards them.
I think some thing that we do all have to remember is that, yeah consistency is key with social media to helping grow and helping educate everyone on dogs but it is 1000% OK to take a step back and take a minute if you’re a little bit drained.

You can’t take the dog out of your dog.
I talk about this all the time I understanding the breed that you’re getting. Kala is a previously extremely reactive backyard bred German shepherd. No matter how well trained she is there are going to be times where she will be a bit reactive. BUT SHES A GERMAN SHEPHERD. Her job instinctively is to guard. But she has an incredible off switch at this point.
That’s why even know I’m so outspoken about when we mess up. Because as trainers, handlers, dog parents we get so down on ourselves when our dogs react, disobey a command, or flat out blow us off. They’re animals. Living breathing animals, we can’t control everything and that’s OKAY.
You and your dog are doing great. Don’t forget it.

2021 was an amazing year.
And I know you guys are going to go wtf. Listen, plenty of bad has happened to everyone. We’ve for sure had our fair share of struggles, but that’s not what I’m here to focus on. If I did, I’d be a pool of depression.
This year, I officially started the business. Far surpassed my business goals for this year all thanks to you guys. Started pioneering. Became an aunt for the first time to not a dog lol. Met so many incredible humans and dogs. Have made friends with some of my biggest inspirations. Was able to stay mostly healthy. Have amazing people in my life that are supportive, loving and keep me grounded.
So was this year what I expected? No I don’t think it was what anyone expected. I’m so grateful for it and I love you all so much.

I think about this dog I met in Mexico all the time.
She was a Mali mix or maybe even a pure Mali. A street dog. She didn’t trust humans right away and hunted for her fish.
That entire day all I did was try to gain the trust of this dog. Literally for hours I just sat by her and waited for her to come to me. When she finally did, I gave her some food and she gave me a kiss and then came with me to meet all my family.
It was the first day I really understood dogs don’t need us. We need them. She was happy, self sufficient didn’t even need my affection, but I needed her. I missed Kala so much. I missed having a pup by my side.
What’s the point of this? Well, to treat your dogs how they want to be treated. Not how we want to treat them. Maybe they don’t want you to constantly be up their butt and cuddling them. Maybe sometimes they just want to be a dog. That’s all.

That feeling of accomplishment when you do something new with your pup!
I could be something big like hiking a new summit, or something big like waking past a dog with NO reaction.
You might think that’s not a big deal, but for some people it really is! Don’t discount someone’s win because you don’t understand it. And don’t compare your pup who’s reactive to someone’s pup who can hike and do these things. You’ll get there, I promise 😊

Just me and my gal Riles
Fun fact if you guys don’t know, there’s such a thing as a working long dog and show line dog. and depending on what you want on your dog that’s going to make a really big difference.
Take a lab for instance, if you want more of a relax chill take them on a walk hang out with the family kind of lab that he might want to go to Shoreline if you want a working lab which is exactly what the name applies to do sport to do maybe gun or anything like that they are high energy they want to work they’re not gonna enjoy sitting on the couch with you until they are completely tired out.
So when looking for a dog this is really a big thing to look into because depending on what you want from it is kind of line that you’re gonna get.

You know when you meet your influences and your slightly terrified that they won’t be as great as you hoped?
I can say from the bottom of my heart that’s not the case with . My time actually being at Fenrir felt like being apart of a family from day one. Definitely helped me think about my future in dog training and how to be better for my pups and clients.
So guys always tag your role models when you repost them, because they might actually be your friend one day 😭

Every dog is not going to fit HUMAN Standards of a good dog.
OK but like what does that even mean? So we as people have put these unrealistic standards on animals that do not come from the human world because they are animals. we naturally expect The dogs are just going to fall in line with our way of living and being friendly to absolutely everyone they meet and having perfect obedience. But unfortunately that is not the case for most dogs. We put so many expectations on our dog that are nearly impossible to be fulfilled without our guidance and that’s not cool on our part.
As a society in general we need to do better with training our dogs And understanding why we should train our dogs. As dog trainers we need to do better at educating the people on the fact that tool should not be demonized and they help our dog owners understand what’s expected of them.
Just as much of a Puppy fan as I am an Eileen fan 😂

Your dog can do more than you think they can.
We tend to baby our dogs WAYYYY more than they need. They’re pretty independent creatures y’all even the clingy ones.
Like talking about this hike with K that I bring up al the time. She refused to turn around even though we thought she couldn’t do it.
Put more trust in your dog and they’ll have more trust in you.

“It takes a village to raise a child, it takes a village to raise a dog”
This is something my new friend Rebecca we’re chatting about today. Any interaction your dog has with a human is a learning experience. You can’t have one person on board and everyone else doing something different. It won’t work. Ever. That’s the sad truth.
Also, I very much love look at her giant drool line

Three perfect pups.
Just because they’re my perfect pups doesn’t mean they’re the perfect pups for you.
You might not like that I let them be complete psychos at times, but then also have crazy obedience.
You might not like having three dogs. Because yeah they do get in fights sometimes never bad, because they respect their no commands.
You might not be able to handle a working line GSD and a backyard bred GSD.
Your pup is perfect for you.

Tips for when your not traveling with your dog-
For the love of all things good please stop FaceTiming your dog. Totally fine to call and check in obviously, but when your talking to them and on camera and they start crying and freaking out because they hear you THATS NOT GOOD. YOU are putting them into an anxious frenzy please stop.
Have them be with someone you trust! Someone that will stick to their routine, training, structured walks etc. They’re already anxious enough that you aren’t there, so make it as normal as possible.
Stop freaking out when you leave and making it this prolonged goodbye. There’s no reason for that, it’s selfish and again makes them freak out.

Just me and happy dood.
People tend to forget about breed characteristics before buying a dog. Goldens are very jumpy doofy dogs. German shepherds are very intense loyal dogs. Australian shepherds are crazy high energy herding dogs.
That being said, please stop picking your breed based off how cute they are and then wondering why they’re dog is acting a certain way. Do your research.

You know just me and princess K advocating for prong collars like always.
listen, I’m not saying prong collars are the only tool in a dog training toolbox. There are plenty other amazing things like slip leads like ecollars etc. But if your dog is having a hard time understanding what you’re asking of them and you don’t have a way to enforce your know this is the best tool to humanely have your dog understand you. Yanking them around on a flat collar or harness is not a positive for them and everything that you do in training even a prong collar should be a positive association for your dog.
I know you’re thinking oh a prong collar as a positive. yeah your dogs actually kind of really love it so don’t knock it till you try it.

A puppy is still a dog.
Kind of weird to actually grasp your head around that right, because we always think of a puppy as just a puppy. A puppy is still a dog. So what am I getting at with this?
Your puppy still needs to be trained from day one as if it was a dog. An adult dog in most homes does not get away with things a puppy does. It’s not cute when a 100 pound dog jumps on you so why is it cute if you puppy does? Food for thought today.

“It’s too cold out to train my dog” Ummm what?
Yeah no that’s not an excuse. You can literally train in a separate room inside even if your house is distracting for your pup. I started this business in the dead of winter, in Covid, and could only work outside.
If you want a happy, healthy, pup you put in the work no matter where you are.

Friendly reminder than every dog needs training personalized to them.
Dogs aren’t a one size fits all shop. Every dog follows the same foundations and principles, but some dogs and owners may respond a certain way while others will not.
Your trainer should always be willing to adapt to your dogs needs to figure out what the best way to teach them is.

“You’ve changed” please enjoy the next slide two years ago to the day 😂😂
Same docs, higher quality flannel, fake blonde hair, still hugging her the same, but not wearing jeans and Kala gets to enjoy off leash life now.
Very fair to say that things have changed, but you still stick to your core self. Followed my passion of working with puppers regardless of if people thought it could work, help Kala get over extreme reactivity even when others thought she never could, learned what I will and I wont tolerate in the people that I keep close to me, being brutally honest telling it like it is, and not behind your back, but still supporting your decisions.
So yeah, you always change as you get older, but make sure that you actually like those changes. This applies to you and your pup too, for a happy well rounded pup really evaluate yourself and see the changes you have to make to be better and mentally healthier for them as well.
Please excuse her ball that is just awkwardly in my pocket, we were working on reward play in crowds 😂

What are we looking at? Prob a bunch of cows. Anyways, if you are looking for a trainer that is going to tell you you were doing absolute everything right with your puppy. There is no reason they’re acting out or reacting or biting. Using treats all the time will solve all your problems. Any good trainer will not be a trainer for you.
I need to be quite honest, you’d be very surprised at how many people I want to hear that it’s just the dogs fault not theirs when it comes to how they’re acting. And more often than not it’s generally our fault when it comes to why our dog is acting the way they are.
If you truly love your dog and want a better life for them take the time to change what YOU are doing. Stop comparing them to that old dog that you had that never needed any training because they’re not that old Dog. I couldn’t care less about your old dog Karen were trying to help your new one be a model citizen and not bite people.
End.
