Working on Felix’s attention to the other end of the leash (it’s me 👩🦱). Here, I am walking away, applying some leash pressure if needed, and waiting for response. When Felix gives me the desired behavior such as following me and ignoring Jeter, I reward him with some food. This was a great first session for us both 🖤

Jeter did his board & train with us last October and is currently here for boarding/refresher while his owners are away.

Why do we do we trim our dogs nails? 💅
❗️If your dog goes long periods of times without getting their nails cut, more pressure can build on their nail bed. In turn, this can start affect the way they walk or move.
❗️Getting your dogs into a a good nail trim routine will help to keep their nail quick small & can make nail trimming a less stressful event.
❗️Work with a trainer or licensed groomer if you need help or don’t know where to start.

🍀 Bailey is about 2 weeks into his board & train, and we are well into his intro to “place” work! Here’s how we got started:
1️⃣ I broke this into a series of steps for Bailey. I first mark the place board. Every time all 4 paws went on, we marked it (clicker or yes- I am doing both) and rewarded.
2️⃣ Secondly, after Bailey understood getting on, I started asking for him sit on the board, marked it, and then rewarded.
3️⃣ Now, I am assisting Bailey with downing on the place board. I tell Bailey “place” and apply gentle pressure downward using the leash. Once he downs on place, I mark it, and reward.
We have practiced a lot of repetitions & we will soon be getting into holding his place stay.

Ever been startled by a loud and sudden sound? Maybe a knock at the door, something in the house fell over, or very loud car/machine. As humans we can easily rationalize what the sound was and investigate it.
If you have not exposed your dog to loud and sudden sounds- their response may be different. Dogs have a natural fight or flight response. So loud and sudden sounds can easily make your dog a flight risk.
At Home Depot we use these types of sounds and work our dogs through them! In this video, I am actively feed Stevie through the noise and for good eye contact. Teaching her that fleeing isn’t a necessary response and to look at me for guidance.
Everything & anything can be a teachable moment with your dog. Dog training is far beyond just some obedience- consider your dog to be a sponge. Every new experience your dog has, it is actively processing and learning how to behave.

Working Mila through loud sounds & moving objects! 🚚🚗
When we first came out, I could tell Mila looked uneasy- her ears show me every thought/emotion she has. So today’s lesson outside around distractions, we just focused on moving (just keep swimming 🐠) & marking her good behaviors.
After a couple times of just going back and forth, Mila started to loose up- showing me she can:
✔️ give eye contact
✔️ walk nicely even if under stress
✔️ Auto-sit
✔️ Motivated to work
Keeping this session short & successful, I’m excited to get back out there tomorrow with her!
