One of the most important parts of training is to push a horse’s buttons! To see where and when they react, and how severe their reaction is. In some cases, like this one, I always try to find ways to push his buttons and work on the severity of his actions.
This boy has been known to have some bigger reactions, and he has reared before (Never under saddle). I took the tree falling as an opportunity to work on Cowboy. I remained calm in the beginning until I saw his signs, then I made sure we would execute a much safer, controlled spook that he hopefully learns from.
I did jump off in the end to avoid hitting the fence.

Week #1 ✅

First week with this pretty guy, Rocky!
I’m working with him to get him halter broke and finished on the ground. The first week has been mostly trust building along with a little pressure and release work.
He is taking it all really well for his age. The first day it took 40 minutes to halter him, the second day was 15 minutes, and the last day was 4 minutes!

I’ve been stuck on what to make my first post about for awhile now. Recently I thought I’d start with the basics of horse training, ground work.
Ground work requires several things, but when you don’t skip any steps you will have amazing results. An example of this is this 2 year old c**t in the picture below. He came from a wild herd and on top of that was gelded 3 months before this picture was taken. He was around mares and my 10 year old sister was riding him. He was faced with many new things and was able to maintain perfect composure the whole time!
