Little one is growing nicely!! I’ve decided to call her May-Belle. She is eating well and loves running around the yard after eating. We had to change out her coat because it got muddy some how. Mama Betty is also doing well. Giving us about 4 gallons of milk a day so far.

Our cow Betty had her baby on Tuesday morning at around 6am! Little girl. My boys saw her when they went to the bus around 7am. Betty did a great job getting her all dried off and clean. But did not seem like the baby had gotten put all the way or nursed at all. We brought the baby inside and got her nice and warm and tried to get her to eat. No luck. So we tried to tube feed her but also no luck. Ended up having to bring her to the vet to see if they could help get her going for us as I worked graveyard that night and was totally exhausted. I brought the half gallon of colostrum I was able to milk off of Betty for them to feed. Luckily they were able to get her to take a bottle and get her blood sugar up and her nice and spunky. So we picked her up, milked mom again and fed it to baby.

This morning baby is doing great, eating like a champ and very spunky! I was also able to go pick up my milking machine at the shipping warehouse this morning and boy oh boy was that better than hand milking!! Double the milk in 10 minutes!! Betty has been such a good girl with letting us milk her and all. Next one is due in July for a beef calf. These jersey babies are often hard to get going. She has a white tip on her tail like she dipped it in white paint. Super cute!

The snow is beautiful but we are so tired of frozen hoses, pipes, slippery walks to feed, and fuses tripping from having all the tank heaters plugged in everywhere. For some reason the house doesn’t like the cold much this year and we keep tripping breakers.

Slowmo snow on our property this evening.

One of the hardest part of being an owner of animals is knowing when it is time to let them go peacefully. Winter is coming and health has been declining for the last year on these two of our oldies. Clue was with us for a good six years, had two babies here, and was an amazing teacher of manners to the other horses. All we had to do was whistle and call her name. And she would come running and bring the entire herd with her! She had quirks, as they all do. But with failing joints, failing teeth, and failing mental health, it was time. She was becoming very sporadic in her behavior and was becoming dangerous to humans as she would become unaware of her surroundings and go ona wild bucking and kicking spree. Vision was fine, hearing was fine. But something was for sure going wrong. With all the other things compounding against her we felt it was the kindest thing to do. We laid her to rest with her best friend Frank. An ex race horse with some major problems. He was only here for two and a half years but he had a happy and stress free life. We all loved on him, but my husband the most. He and Frank hit it off right from the start. Sadly when we went to have Frank’s teeth done, we discovered his reflex to pull back as hard as possible against pressure behind his head was so strong that even under double sedation, he could not be worked on. It was also discovered that he was much much older than we were told, which explained his joint issues and trouble keeping weight on. We worried the only way to fix his teeth would be to lay him out flat under full sedation, which his heart likely could not take. So we decided to give him one last really good summer with as much food as he wanted , lots of attention and cookies, and then peacefully lay him to rest right next to Clu. Sad day on the farm for sure but the kindest thing we could do for them instead of making them suffer another long winter with horrible joint pain, liver killing drugs to help the joint pain, and hardly able to eat because of tooth issues not able to be resolved. Run free my sweet horses! Keep each other safe and happy over the 🌈 bridge. 🐎 🐎 😇

Tabitha had a baby girl this morning! We named her Autumn since her older sister from last year is named Summer. Very cute red and white coloring. Mom was not wanting to let baby Autumn nurse though so I milked her out a little and fed it to baby Autumn.

Well, it was an awesome adventure, but all things end sooner or later. We will stop offering camping by January, as has been required of us by the county. So if anyone would like to come spend a weekend on our farm before it’s no longer allowed, now is your chance. We hope to go out with a bang! We will use any proceeds from this time frame to help us build a farm bakery and kitchen so we can offer farm dinners and products for visitors in the future, and help keep our little farm alive!

Sad day today. Baby Zeus (the newest baby alpaca) lost his mother today. We are not entirely sure what all happened but we came home to her having passed away. Luckily his herd takes good care of him but we will have to bottle feed him twice a day now to keep him healthy. Prayers for him in this time would be greatly appreciated. Alpacas can be such a hard animal to raise.

Outdoor shower with on demand hot water heater is all done, tested, and amazing! So far everyone has loved that it is large enough for more than one person to shower at once, and there is an awesome view while you shower. A couple more tiny tweaks today but it is essentially complete.
