Winter group class dates!

Puppy 101- Available for pups 6 months or younger, AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy is an optional add-on. Goes over exposure training, stages of development, handling, leash walking, and introduction to commands.

Classes start January 11th and March 1st at 6PM.

Basic Obedience- Focuses on the essential commands: sit, down, off, wait, leave it, wait, place, come, and loose leash walking. Small class size allows owners and pups to learn and grow at their own pace while still getting the benefit of working in a group setting.

Classes start January 13th and March 3rd at 6pm

Intermediate Obedience- For dogs who have already taken an obedience class. This class is designed to take your pup's listening skills to the next level, teach you how to test your own dog's skill, and prepare them for the AKC Canine Good Citizen test (test is optional and can be requested after the 6 weeks)

Classes start January 25th and March 15th at 7pm.

All classes are 6 weeks long, meet once a week and are an hour long. The cost is $160.

Training Tip Tuesday this week is on things you can add to your pups walks- especially if you’re finding that walking alone isn’t tiring out your pup or think they might be getting bored with their routine.

Did you know there's multiple ways to walk your dog? There's the perfect heel, the letting your dog choose their own adventure, the training walk, and any combination of the above. There isn't one right way to walk your pup and you can even switch between any method. Have you ever found yourself wal...

Some new announcements!!

PetTech is the premier source for learning pet CPR, first aid, and general care and we now have classes opening to the public!! Classes are held at The Laundromutt/Kindermutt, but we also offer the option for facilities to schedule an instructor to go on site. The PetSaver course is 8 hours long and covers senior pet care, dental health, CPR, choking management, and first aid. The next class scheduled is on Saturday, August 21st and cost is $160.

We are also very pleased to announce that Veronica recently received her AKC evaluator certification. This means that the Puppy 101 class is now the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy class and participants are eligible to take the S.T.A.R. Puppy test at the end (pups that pass receive a certificate, a medal, and a listing the S.T.A.R. Puppy records). The next puppy class is September 2nd. It also means that we are able to administer all three levels of the Canine Good Citizen test. For any training inquiries please email [email protected]!

With Erie County going orange I wanted to address any concerns. Dog training is a low risk of transmission business. Some steps being taken to reduce risk even further (some new, some have been implemented for months): masks are mandatory, class sizes are small to keep occupancy under 10 people, temperature is taken before entry, everyone must sign a COVID waiver before each class, chairs are kept well over 6ft apart, hand sanitizer is readily available and will be used between working with each dog. I will continue to offer in person lessons due to the number of precautions being taken and low risk of transmission, however if for any reason you would feel more comfortable doing a virtual private lessons I am committed to developing lesson plans for that as well.

The answers to Frequently Asked Questions continue! Which group class is right for your dog? Puppy 101 is most suitable for young dogs and their parents who could use help learning how to socialize their pup, handling tips for getting your dog to be comfortable at grooms/vet visits, knowing what mental developments your dog will go through as they age and how you can change your training tactics accordingly, and setting up the foundations for basic commands. Basic Obedience focuses on the most important commands and skills: sit, down, off, wait, leave it, place, come, and walking on leash. It breaks each command up into different levels based on your dogs needs so that you can work with your dog at your own pace. There is still room for the Basic Obedience class on November 10th so call 716-775-2281 or email [email protected] for more info. Stay tuned for the next Puppy 101 class in January and the addition of more classes like Advanced Obedience and Enrichment classes!

One of the most frequently asked questions I get is "Should I do private lessons or a group class?" Each case is slightly different so always reach out, but a good guideline is: Group classes are geared towards dogs who have a broad spectrum of things to work on. That can be introducing commands for the first time, learning how to get your dog to listen to commands more reliably, or introducing harder tasks like getting your dog to listen even while a lot of interesting things are going on. Private lessons are the best option for pet owners who need more scheduling flexibility, have dogs that do not work well around other dogs, or have dogs that listen well to commands but have targeted things to work on (fear of strangers, conflicts with other animals in the home, leash reactivity, etc.). Reach out to [email protected] or call 716-775-2281 for other questions! I will be answering some more FAQs all week!
