🐾✨ Let’s Talk: Post-Clipping Alopecia ✨🐾
Have you ever noticed your dog’s coat growing back slow, patchy, or a different texture after a shave? That might be something called post-clipping alopecia — and it’s more common than people realize!
Post-clipping alopecia happens when certain breeds (especially double-coated dogs like Pomeranians, Huskies, Golden Retrievers, and more) have their coat clipped too short. Their hair can go into a “resting phase,” which means it may take months to regrow… and sometimes it may not grow back the same at all.
💛 What owners should know:
• This is NOT caused by bad grooming — it’s a coat biology issue.
• Some dogs are more prone to it than others.
• The coat may grow back very slowly or come in fuzzy, patchy, or darker.
• Keeping double-coated dogs brushed, deshedded, and maintained regularly is usually the best option instead of shaving.
If you’re ever unsure about whether your dog is a good candidate for shaving, just ask! We’re always happy to talk through coat types, risks, and the best grooming plan for your pup.
✨ At Wizard of Paws, our top priority is your dog’s health, comfort, and coat care — not just how cute they look when they leave (though that’s a bonus 😄).
