‼️Dr. Servos needs volunteers again!‼️ Many thanks to those of you that volunteered your sweet pets last month!
Dr. Servos is getting certified in chiropractic and needs to practice. If you have a well-behaved dog or horse that you'd like to volunteer, please give us a call! Animals need to be up to date on their rabies vaccine and annual check-up. Horses may need to be able to haul to the clinic.
Note: Dr. Servos will be practicing the motions and positions for Chiropractic for now and will not be performing adjustments at this time. She will be finishing her coursework in February and hopefully certified soon after that in order to provide this service in 2025! ☺️

We would like to feature a couple of organizations near and dear to us. We often work directly with these groups, and to help keep them up and running, we know donations are vital.

This November, we are highlighting the Leavenworth County Council On Aging (PALS/Pet2Vet Program).
Through donations, this program helps eligible seniors be able to afford the basic needs for pets, as well as help with transportation to and from veterinary/grooming appointments.

~Listed below are some of their common needs, you can bring donation items to Pleasant Valley Vet Clinic through November 22nd.
~If you are so inclined, there is an option for monetary donations via cash, check, or to the COA PayPal (shown below).

Thank you for any help and donations! 🥰

Please contact Leavenworth Council On Aging for more information or if you know anyone that may benefit from this program.

NOVEMBER IS SENIOR PET MONTH!
Snag a $50 discount on senior pet bloodwork panels through November!

Senior lab work is very important for checking the health of our aging pets. Even if we aren't seeing any problems on the outside, there can be numerous changes taking place on the inside. Getting baseline lab work at any age is a great idea to compare when any issues arise. We can see slow changes over time, and may be able to help extend the life of our pets overall if we can catch things early.
*Call or schedule now on our app to take advantage of these savings, and get a picture of your pets internal health by checking some lab work now!

How do I know when my pet is a senior, and how should I care for them?
On average, pets age seven times faster than people. Typically, dogs and cats are considered senior when they’re about seven years old. Of course, size and breed have a lot of bearing on the aging process.
Just like us, pets tend to require more TLC as they age, and they are more prone to developing health problems like arthritis, cancer, kidney disease, heart disease, liver disease, thyroid conditions, and diabetes. While aging itself is not a disease, according to Vetstreet, there are a few symptoms you should keep an eye on when it comes to caring for your older pet:

Changes in weight (especially weight loss)
Decreased appetite or lack of appetite
Increased water consumption
Changes in urine or stool patterns
New lumps, bumps or swellings — or changes in existing ones
Persistent cough
Difficulty breathing or breathing heavily or rapidly at rest
Sudden collapse or weakness
Difficulty climbing stairs or jumping
Foul mouth odor or drooling
Seizure or convulsions
Disorientation

If you are noticing any of these signs in your senior pet, it might be time for a check up. Request an appointment through our app 📲so we can perform a nose-to-tail exam and create a plan for their senior care.

Top 5 Halloween Pet Safety Tips:

1. Keep 🍫CANDY🍬 Out of Reach - Pets have a keen sense of smell and can sniff out any candy stash. Some treats can be toxic for them, especially chocolate and sugar-free candy containing xylitol.
2. Keep Pets Indoors & Away from the Door - Avoid potential escapes by keeping your pet in a familiar room with their favorite toys, treats, and some calming music.
3. Identification is Key - In case your pet gets out, ensure they have proper ID, like a collar with a tag or, even better, a microchip.
4. Be Cautious with Costumes - If your pet is in costume, never leave them unattended. Make sure the costume is comfortable, free from dangling pieces, and doesn’t restrict their movement, breathing, or ability to bark/meow.
5. Ditch the Doorbell - Repeated knocks or doorbell rings can cause stress. Consider setting up a candy station in your car trunk or handing out treats on your porch.

If you suspect your pet has ingested a toxic substance please call us during office hours at 913-845-2209.
