This sweet girl was found running on highway 59 between Oskaloosa and Perry early this morning. Unfortunately, she is not microchipped and does not have a collar on. She knows sit, and shake, and is clearly very loved! If you feel she may be your please give us a call at 785-272-2926.

Update…REUNITED WITH OWNER!!!! 🚨Found near 46th and Rochester, he was located close to the church, across from firehouse. No microchip. Good Samaritan will be holding this morning and taking to Helping Hands when they open. Please contact the Emergency Animal Clinic this AM @ 785-272-2926 to describe information about collar to prove ownership.. or Helping Hands Humane society when transfer happens with Good Samaritan this afternoon. 🚨

🚨A dog was brought in by a Good Samaritan! The pup is in good shape but was running around 62nd and Shaffer. The pup is chipped but registered to the previous owner. 🚨
This sweet pup will be at Helping Hands Humane Society for the night. Call them to check to see if this is your dog. And please make sure to update your microchips if your animal is ever rehomed.

A Good Samaritan brought in a cat last night that was picked up at 29th and Plass after he had been hit by two vehicles. Unfortunately, he had succumbed to his injuries. This is an intact male cat with no microchip. We will hold him until 6/16. Please give us a call if you think this may be your cat.

This sweet boy was found at the corner of 5th and Harrison yesterday evening. He is microchipped, but unfortunately the registered phone number is disconnected. There is a very unique tag on his collar. He was taken to Helping Hands Humane Society last night. Please give them a call today if you think he may be yours!

With summer temperatures here to stay it is important to be extra diligent in protecting our furry friends from heat stroke! Dogs are unable to sweat as efficiently as humans (sweat glands only located on paws), so they must rely on panting to cool themselves. Avoid excessive exercise, do not leave dogs outside without adequate shade and water, and never leave your dog in the car (even running) during the summer months.

🔥Risk Factors:
🥵Brachycephalic breeds (Pugs, Bulldogs, etc)
🥵Overweight dogs
🥵Dark or thick coated dogs
🥵Dogs with underlying respiratory or cardiac disease

🔥Symptoms:
🥵Excessive panting
🥵Drooling
🥵Weakness
🥵Confusion
🥵Collapse
🥵Seizure
🥵Vomiting/Bloody diarrhea

Heat stroke is a medical emergency! If you suspect your dog may have heat stroke begin cooling measures immediately. Wet your dog with cool water and place them in front of your car's AC vents while en route to a veterinary clinic.

We have already seen a handful of cases of Bobcat Fever this Spring. Unfortunately, this disease carries with it a very high death rate.

Bobcat Fever is a blood parasite transmitted via tick bite. Bobcats are thought to be the main reservoir for the disease as it is not often fatal for them.

Signs/Symptoms:
👎 Lethargy
👎 Fever
👎 Loss of appetite
👎 Respiratory problems
👎 Dehydration
👎 Yellowing of eyes/insides of ears

👍 Bobcat Fever is easily avoidable by ensuring your cat is on a flea/tick preventative!
