Some of our adoptable pets have made their own Valentine’s Day cards. Did they have help? Maybe. Are they adorable? Absolutely. Will they win you over? We’d be shocked if they didn’t.

Our Canine Valentine Special runs through tomorrow—adopt a dog (5 months and older) for just $14. (A few of our high-profile heartthrobs and younger pups may not be included.)

🐶💘 We’re Open & Ready to Play Matchmaker! 💘🐶

We’re back open today, and we have some adorable new friends looking for love! ❤️ Our Canine Valentine special runs through Saturday, February 15th—all dogs 5 months and older are just $14 to adopt! 🐾

They come spayed/neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated—fully ready to be your Furry Valentine. Some younger pups or high-profile dogs may not be included, but every adoption makes a difference. Remember, adopting one pet saves two lives! 🏡🐾

We are SO happy for our talkative senior broccoli-and-rice-eating cat Granny Roz Butters on her recent adoption! This girl has hyperthyroidism and a loveably brat attitude. 💚 Her family saw our post espousing ALL of Granny's many attributes and couldn't stop thinking about her. Yesterday, they came by to fall in love in person! Granny is already a big fan of the tiny humans. What a special adoption!

🐈‍⬛🐾 Exciting News! 🐾🐈

We’re thrilled to announce the launch of the “PHAT (Placing Homeless & Terrific) Cats” Program in partnership with the Topeka Correctional Facility! This innovative program pairs cats from Helping Hands Humane Society with resident handlers at TCF, providing the cats with love, socialization, and care while supporting residents' development of empathy, responsibility, and valuable life skills.

🌟 How It Works:

Cats in need of extra socialization are matched with TCF residents.

Residents provide daily care, grooming, and love to prepare the cats for adoption.

HHHS supplies food, toys, carriers, and veterinary care.

💬 From Margaret Price, HHHS Behavior Director:
“This program is a win-win for both the cats and the residents. It’s going to transform live—helping cats become adoptable while giving residents a sense of purpose and accomplishment.”

A sweet adoption update to warm your heart on this snow day: 5 years ago I adopted a large orange cat named Maxwell. I was a college student struggling with my mental health and adopted him to become my ESA. He was 5 1/2 years old. His name is now Charlie and he is my best friend. I haven’t had a mental breakdown since adopting him. The day I got him home, he explored the dorm and then curled up next to me. Every night since then, he falls asleep next to me.

When I adopted him, I bought him a harness and leash so I could get him outside during fire drills at the dorm. He took to it immediately and loves going on walks with me. He also absolutely loves car rides. Charlie is the best thing in my life. Thank you for being the reason I have my best friend.

We want to give a shout out to Topeka West High School’s French Club! They put on a fundraiser for HHHS by making beautiful felt pets like Noelle shown here and selling them to raise donations. ❤️ In total they’ve raised $100 to help pets in need! 🐾 Thank you!

🚨 New Boys in Town: Luke & Burke 🚨

Meet Burke—his name means castle, and he’s ready to be the king of your heart! This 4-year-old Border Collie mix has one blue eye, one brown eye, and one mission: to find a home (preferably one with snacks). He was discovered at Sonic, probably surfing for stray tots, and while he’s a total social butterfly with humans, he seems to be picky about letting other canines into his royal bubble. If you’re looking for a fun-loving, devoted best friend who will steal your heart (and maybe your tots), Burke is your guy!

Then there’s Luke, our 7-year-old Australian Cattledog who has opinions. Specifically, he was NOT a fan of our behavior assessment child doll. To be fair, he has definitely seen the movie M3GAN, and honestly, we get it. Luke is a smart, sensitive soul who thrives in a calm, quiet home where he can decompress from the stress of simply existing (again, relatable).

Both these boys are available at Helping Hands Humane Society in Topeka, KS, and thanks to our $14 Canine Valentine adoption special, you can bring home either one for less than the price of a drive-thru meal (Burke is still thinking about those tots).

Footloose and fancy free is a good way to describe Ozzy. “Playful cuddle bug” is another apt commendation from volunteer Samantha. Ozzy is 52 pounds of fun loving! He’s been at the shelter for over a month now and can’t wait to adopt a family. Consider coming to meet Ozzy soon!

Eesh - that Super Bowl loss was a ruff one! 🏈🏟️🙈 What are you to do now that football season is over? While we have more snow to get through, warmer weather is right around the corner, and a new canine pal is the perfect companion for exploring the outdoors! ☀️🥾

Meet Tully 🐾 - excellent description by volunteer Samantha: “I dare you not to get lost in Tully’s stunning eyes—seriously, good luck. This gorgeous queen has the perfect mix of sweetness, sass, and just the right amount of mischief to keep life interesting!

She’s a pro at lap snuggles but also has an adventurous spirit—whether it’s a casual stroll or a full-on marathon, she’s ready to lead the way (and probably look fabulous doing it).

Tully is the total package: cuddly, confident, and always up for fun.” Plus, Tully might really enjoy that snow we’re supposed to get this week! 🌨️
