🥋 Kids Karate Class taught by Moore's Martial Arts Academy. Perfect for your little ones to learn some cool moves and build confidence!

Twyla found a loving home with help from a community of supporters!

This beautiful Border Collie mix came to us as a stray on June 1st. At only 2.5 years old, she already has arthritis in her hips.

She also had a mass on her lower back that needed to be removed. Thankfully, she was given excellent care and love in foster as our medical team treated her and monitored recovery.

Extra care for dogs like Twyla is only possible thanks to the ongoing support of our community - donations and hands on help play a crucial role for special needs pets.

🥋 Self Defense class taught by Moore's Martial Arts Academy right here at the shelter. This session is exclusive to Tails on the Trails registrants!

💃 Zumbathon® Charity Event at Genesis Health Clubs (2909 SW 37th St, Topeka, KS) from 1-3pm. Join us for two hours of dancing, fun instructors, and fantastic raffle prizes! Tickets are just $10, but it’s free for Tails on the Trails registrants.

🧘 Guided Meditation at 2pm taught by Krystle Simpson, owner of Down 2 Earth Healing. This calming session is free for Tails on the Trails registrants or $10 at the door.

📋 Important: Registrants, please bring one of your corresponding tickets to the events. If you don’t have a ticket, just show your registration at the door.

We’re running low on leashes, and with nearly 200 dogs and puppies under our care, leashes are a very helpful item to have on hand!

No retractables, please, and we prefer 6-foot leashes but will be happy to accept any size. ❤️

Once upon a time, in a kingdom not so far away, there was a small but mighty queen named Aurora. With eyes that had seen 13 seasons and a dignified stance that commanded respect, Aurora ruled her world with grace. But one day, this noble Min Pin found herself lost and alone, wandering the streets in search of a warm throne to call her own.

On October 27th, she was rescued by a knight who brought her to Helping Hands Humane Society, and her royal presence filled the shelter with hope and charm. While her past remains a mystery, one thing is clear: she has the heart of a queen and the soul of a loyal friend.

Now, Aurora is looking for a new castle where she can retire in comfort. She dreams of a home where she’ll be pampered, cherished, and treated like the royalty she truly is. Our staff and volunteers had fun at the shelter this Halloween! Dr. Center, Lauren, Sky, Jay, Alder, and others wore costumes. Treats were enjoyed, and animals were helped. We hope everyone has had a safe and fun Halloween! Don’t forget to sign up for Tails On The Trails 2024 to stay active and healthy after all that delicious candy. 🍭🍫🍬

Jojo said he wanted to be a good boy for Halloween. 🎃 We told him he’s supposed to pick a costume of something he *isn’t* already! He didn’t quite get it, but that’s okay. 🐾

Jojo is currently in foster care with one of our Adoption Counselors! His paws were becoming really irritated in the shelter, and she wanted to give him a Slumber Party Foster home after 100+ days with HHHS. 🏠

As you can see, he coexists with a feline friend and other canines! 🐈🐕 Jojo is a great boy who’s been patiently waiting for a family. Get in touch with our adoption team if you’d like to meet him! 📱

We hope everyone is staying safe in these storms! Remember to bring your pets inside whenever possible and have them shelter with you in a basement or interior room if it’s time to take cover. Put on their collars with identification, and put on your tennis shoes just in case! If they’re afraid of thunder, it can help to play soothing music.
