Last Saturday was our most recent Facts N Snax event. Rachel, our cat care expert, talked about all things Cat! We learned so much: how the barn cat program works, tips and tricks for fostering moms and kittens, even things to do with our elder cats at home. As you can see, we had a huge amount of great snacks to share. Another great benefit of being an HHHS volunteer! Friendship, fun, food and feeling good helping those pets who need homes...

Put this on your calendar HHHS volunteers! It will be fun, informative afternoon. See you there!

How to let go of the guilt of not being able to adopt a pet right now…

We get it—sometimes life's circumstances mean adopting or fostering a pet isn't possible. But that doesn't mean you can't still make a huge difference in a shelter dog's life, especially on National Make a Dog's Day (psst - that’s today)! 💕🐾 Remind yourself that you're doing what you can, because we're all in this together, whether or not we can adopt today.

In addition to spoiling your own furry friend on this canine-centered holiday, there are many ways to brighten a shelter dog's day! Here are some simple ways you can help:

👃Donate Scent Enrichment: Look around your house for old perfume, cologne, essential oils, or pet-safe herbs and spices. We use these in our rotating enrichment schedule to bust boredom in the kennels!

📋Check Out Our Amazon Wish List: Visit our Amazon Wish List (link in comments) to see the current items our shelter needs most. Every donation, no matter how small, makes a big difference!

🪡Get Crafty: If you know how to sew, consider making durable dog toys from old jeans, water bottles, and stuffing. These homemade toys can provide hours of entertainment for our dogs!

🤲Volunteer Your Time: Sign up to volunteer! Even a few hours a month can make a dog's day brighter. Our volunteer opportunities are flexible, and your help is always appreciated.

🍪Donate Training Treats: Training treats that come in small pieces or are easy to break apart are perfect for our team working with shelter dogs. Your donation helps us teach them manners and prepare them for homes!

Remember, your support—whether through volunteering, donating, or simply spreading the word—makes all the difference for the dogs in our care. Thank you for being a part of our compassionate community! 🐶💕

You might make an excellent HHHS volunteer!

Five green flags of an HHHS volunteer:

✅You make time on your day off (or before work, after school, or whatever works for your schedule) to help pets in need. ⏰
✅You have experience taking cute photos of your pets. Great photos can help shelter pets find homes! Just like this photo of Hank taken by volunteer Becky. 🤳🏼📸❤️
✅You love to encourage others to adopt, volunteer, donate, or help however they can! 👏
✅You know how to do laundry! Volunteers who’re willing to pitch in and learn what we need help with, like doing a load of laundry between hanging out with animals, are so helpful to us. 🧺
✅You make a mean chili. Our volunteers are holding a chili cook-off, so this is a skill that could come in handy if you join the team! 🥣🫘🌶️

If any of these green flags describe you, consider joining our amazing team of Volunteers of Helping Hands Humane Society! Whether you can spare a few hours a week or have a special talent like pet photography, there's a place for you here. Together, we can make a real difference in the lives of shelter pets. 🐾💚
