Our self-serve veggie stand will be open tomorrow and Sunday this week (August 24 & August 25) from 9am to sunset/while supplies last.

We will have garlic, carrots, green beans, some tie dye tomatoes, beefsteak tomatoes (new this week!), a few carmen peppers (new this week too!), and swiss chard.

Please keep in mind we are a "tiny urban farm" so quantities are limited, but we always put out everything that we are able to, and restock as we can. We grow everything organically and pesticide/chemical free.

Our veggies are always offered for donation/pay what you're able to. Thank you for the continued support!

Last week, our cooler shut down while we were away, so we apologize for those who came out to find warm carrots and beans. The issue has been resolved, and we have freshly harvested veggies ready to go out again!

Please keep in mind we are a "tiny urban farm" so quantities are limited, but we always put out everything that we are able to, and restock as we can. We grow everything organically and pesticide/chemical free.

As always, our veggies are offered for donation/pay what you're able to. Thank you for the continued support!

One of the many reasons we will never use pesticide or chemical treatments in the garden; they kill the good guys!

Beneficial insects consist of more than just polinators (although we love our polinators!).

I found this little guy in the morning garden walk chowing on a cucumber beetle. I believe it to be a "Podisus" or a spined soldier beetle - a predatory stink bug that feeds on several garden pests.

We've introduced beneficial predators into the garden before, but it's always nice to see them show up naturally. A good sign of a functioning, diverse ecosystem in the garden.

I like this guy!

Unfortunately, it looks like we lost a cucumber plant to presumably a vine borer. Hopefully, all is not lost. The plant still had a healthy shoot growing from the bottom, so we harvested any little cukes we could. Then we cut the wilted main stem back to the healthy shoot, and re-trellised it.

The wilted remains went into a sealed plastic bag and put into the sun to solarize and kill off any remaining borers that were in the wilted plant parts.

We've had luck before when losing a main stem on a cucumber or tomato plant by continuing growth through a shoot that we would normally prune off. Pest management can be a challenge, especially in an organic, pesticide, and chemical free setting - but if something isn't trying to eat your plants, then your garden is not part of a healthy, sustainable ecosystem.

The last romaine harvest of the summer! We've been harvesting the same plants since June 1st, and they'll be ready to start bolting by next week. We cut all the heads before this (and in the early morning) to get the best flavor and crispness. Hoping to have some more ready in the fall. This "Sunland" variety of romaine from Johnny's Selected Seeds is still our new favorite lettuce that we will continue to grow.
