**URGENT** Meet Scout, our rescue spotlight, a sweet 3-4 year old neutered male hound/Weimaraner mix, weighing 40-45 lbs. Scout is a loyal companion who bonds closely with one person and enjoys lounging on the couch, but he needs a very specific home. He thrives in a female-only household with no children or cats and would do best in a quiet environment with a confident dog friend or as the only pet. Scout is fearful of men and new people, so he needs someone who understands his past and is willing to work with him. Time is running outโ€”Scout is facing euthanasia soon if he doesn't find the right home soon. Please reach out to Paws Rescue League Inc if you can give this sweet boy a chance!

๐ŸŒŸ Mythbuster Monday! ๐ŸŒŸ

Myth: Dogs should be groomed shorter in the summer to help them stay cool.

Truth: Many pet owners think this will keep their dogs comfortable in the heat, but itโ€™s not always effective. Dogs naturally adapt to seasonal changes and shed accordingly to manage their temperature. For breeds with double coats, like Huskies or Golden Retrievers, regular brushing is vital to remove loose fur and prevent mats. This helps them shed properly while maintaining insulation against heat. Plus, cutting their fur too short can expose them to sunburn and increase the risk of skin cancer.

๐ŸŒŸ Mythbuster Monday! ๐ŸŒŸ

Myth: Dogsโ€™ paw pads are temperature resistant.

Truth: While dogs' paw pads are tough, theyโ€™re not invincible! Paw pads are very sensitive to both cold and hot temperatures. Always check the ground temperature before walks, especially on warm days. Keep walks to mornings and evenings during hot days. In the colder weather, watch for salt on the roads that can irritate paws. Protect those paws to keep your furry friend safe and comfortable!

๐Ÿ˜ป Play is great enrichment for cats, so weโ€™re bringing back these lovely illustrations by Lili Chin from our 2022 International Cat Day campaign!

There are many different ways cats can play, so take note of what your cat likes to do. ๐Ÿชถ A wand toy is a good place to start โ€“ try wiggling it in short bursts along the floor or swooping it slowly through the air above them.

๐Ÿ”” Give yourself a reminder to play with your cat for 5 minutes each day and you will also see how much it improves your bond with them.
