Meet Oliver, our lovable rescue recently saved from PG County Animal Services and now in foster care.

Oliver is an 8-year-old, 49-pound sweetheart looking for a forever home filled with love and companionship. Here's what we know about Oliver so far:

Oliver is a gentle soul with a calm demeanor, making them a wonderful companion for quiet moments and relaxed strolls. Oliver's favorite activities include leisurely walks, lounging in sunny spots, and receiving gentle pets and scratches.

Despite their calm nature, Oliver enjoys short bursts of playtime and interactive sessions with toys. They are treat-motivated and eager to learn new tricks or commands.

If you're interested in providing a loving forever home to Oliver or learning more about this sweet soul, please contact [email protected]. Let's find Oliver the perfect forever family where he can feel safe, cherished, and loved for the rest of their days!

It’s National Puppy Day!

Say it for the people in the back: we say no to puppy mills and we opt to adopt.

FINAL plea

Hello,

Baltimore County Animal Services is urgently seeking rescue placement for Emerson. Emerson is an Akita that came to us as a stray. Emerson was found with a basket muzzle on him and has been shut down since he arrived at the shelter. We have not been able to gauge Emerson’s true personality.

Emerson is very aloof and hasn’t shown interest in toys, food, or people, but has shown some interest in other dogs when he’s seen them. Emerson is uncomfortable with touch and has just been able to have his back pet while here. We are unsure of how old Emerson is at this time or his weight, but he would be neutered, heartworm tested, and brought up to date on vaccines prior to leaving our shelter.

If you are interested in pulling Emerson, or have any questions, please let us know!

Thank you,

BCAS Rescue Team

Hi, I’m Hazel, and this is my story. My amazing mama birthed and nursed me and my siblings in a hay bale in the middle of nowhere, Texas. (Literally in a hay bale!) When some wonderful humans finally earned her trust, they rescued the whole family. That was a great day!

We took a looooooong ride north last summer and I was adopted as an adorable merle-coated, big-eared puppy. Who could resist, right?! I thought I’d found my forever person!

Flash forward to early 2023 and my human mama no longer had time for me. Plus I hadn’t been spayed or trained, so I was a bit of a “hot mess” as you humans would say. But a sweet, smart girl with tons of potential and the urge to please!

My heroes at TRU really want me to be successful. I've been spayed and am up-to-date on my vaccines, and while they've been working hard to find my forever family (for real this time!), it hasn't happened yet. I recently spent three weeks with a fantastic trainer in a board and train program that did wonders for me, teaching me how to positively engage my energetic brain and body! (See how I’m sitting so pretty in this picture?)

So here I sit, still looking for that forever home that’s truly the right fit. I am a year old now, about 40 lbs., and likely a pit/hound mix. I am dog friendly but I play pretty rough, so another pup (or pups!) would have to be able to match that energy and play style. I will need plenty of exercise and mental stimulation daily. I do like to chase cats and could knock over small children, potentially, when I get excited (which is often, because life is exciting!). A fence would be amazing! I’m such a GOOD girl that had such a WILD start to life. I’m just waiting for my adventure buddy and someone that will love me forever so I can love them back! If that could be you, apply at www.trurescue.org.

Thanks for listening!

Xoxo,
Hazel

Spread the loveIt’s no easy task training a dog to be a service dog. Sadly, Onyx was dealt a bad hand by fate, and today he is slated to die because he didn’t understand. He had been chosen by a person to be her service dog, and with that task in mind, Onyx was loyal. […]

There is only one way to know if your breeder is not a puppy mill. Visit in person, see where the dogs live and meet the mother dog. Video chats, and photos will not work.
