📣Arbutus MD - welcome home Gabby!

Gabby is a beautiful 12-year-old “torbie” indoor cat who slipped out the door on March 14th and began her adventure. Her mom Jennifer was panicked (particularly worried because Gabby has stomatitis) and reached out to LARG the next day ✅

Our designated indoor-cat coaching volunteer Hannah began advising with our best practices. Jennifer was already putting food outside along with scent from home. Flyers were going up in the neighborhood & calls were coming in.

Well, Gabby turned out to be a “not-so-typical’ indoor cat. It’s possible that she had lived outside earlier in her life (she’s been with Jennifer for a year). We soon realized that this would be a greater challenge, but we never back away from a challenge when it comes to reuniting families! Denise took over the case because she lives close-by, and we suspected that trapping would be needed.
It took a few weeks before we had consistent sightings. There were 2 different neighbors seeing her & putting food out; there are also several outdoor/feral cats in the neighborhood. 🐈‍⬛🐈

The home Gabby visited most consistently was 4 doors down. She often sheltered under the deck or in the woods opposite the back gate. She was being fed 2-3 times a day, but as expected would scurry away if anyone approached. The homeowner wasn’t too happy about the idea of a trap in her yard, so Jennifer spent some time sitting on the ground and watching as Gabby ate. She would speak and sing quietly to Gabby, who seemed unbothered unless there was any movement in her direction.

Today we decided that it was time to trap her, even if we had to move to another yard. We were fortunate that the homeowner decided that she would allow the trap as long as it wasn’t for very long.

This evening around 6pm we put the trap out, but left it secured open so that it would not be triggered. We just wanted to see how Gabby reacted and if she would eat inside of it. Within five minutes of setting it up, she appeared and entered the trap to eat with no hesitation. 🙏🏼

We instructed Jennifer to go right back and set the trap with the food all the way in the back, and within five minutes of doing that, WE HAD HER!! 😀🐾❤️

What a happy day, after over 5 weeks! No more adventures for you Gabby!!

📣 Ellicott City, MD - A beautiful chow had been seen wandering on & off for a few weeks. Last weekend Denise B Harris brought a camera over to where she was last fed by Holly, a caring dog-mom. We hoped that she’d be back to eat! No sightings at all for most of the week, so Holly took the food away but we kept the camera there just in case.

Then yesterday someone posted a photo that the dog was seen a few blocks from there. Denise instructed Holly to put food back out to see what would happen. Overnight & this morning she showed up on camera 4 times. The trap went out around 11am today, baited of course with Royal Farms chicken🍗 By 11:40 we had her! Video in comments 🎥

Denise took her to Howard County Shelter -- no microchip, no ID. Hopefully she'll find a wonderful new home if there's nobody looking for her. Sweet gorgeous girl, looks like a teddy bear! 🐾💓🧸

📣 Woodstock MD, Baltimore County - this pup is now safe from the cold!

Does anyone recognize this sweet but emaciated Little Girl? 🐾

She was being seen on Marriottsville Road in the woods, but wouldn’t come to anybody. Erin E Johnson made a post and sent the location.

She was so skinny and in this cold it wasn’t a good situation so they reached out to Lost Animal Resource Group - LARG & Bob Swensen for help.

Bob brought a trap immediately and when he got there, he was looking for her and she was very barky, probably being protective and scared.

Bob quickly set the trap, and all of a sudden Kelly Granahan who volunteers at BARCS showed up to help. We set the trap and then saw that she was about 50 feet away so we moved the trap closer and she came running towards us so we kept our distance. As we were moving the trap, the door was closed.

The trap already had liquid smoke and royal Farms chicken in it, but it wasn’t set - and she sniffed all around it. Not wanting to push her to react, Bob pulled his van next to the trap and quickly set it and retreated.

She tried to get to the food from the back, but eventually figured out she had to go through the door.

It didn’t take her long to go in and when the door closed, she didn’t even blink. (video In comments)
As we lifted her into the van, she was nervous, but as we fed her yummy food, she relaxed a little and Angelica Kim stopped by and brought more yummy food.

In the van and out to Baltimore County Animal Services and she was nervous and barking while she was in the trap, but there were also several people around, which made her nervous. Once inside and the door to the trap was open, she came out very nicely, had a very relaxed body language and was taking treats and even sat for us.

BCAS will take good care of her. Unknown if she has a chip, but had no other identification.
