📢Rosie is home and safe in Abingdon MD!!

She broke through the fence a week ago and was on the run. Rosie was abused and extremely skittish. She was seen all around home and Hookers Mill area but would run as soon as she saw anyone.
With a few sightings they were very worried and reached out to Lost Animal Resource Group - LARG. We coached on posters and feeding stations.

The family were worried, and each time we didn't have a sighting for a few hours they reached out asking what they could do. And pretty much within an hour, there were new sightings - but it is so hard not knowing!

Leigh Steindler Lina (a future volunteer) reached out to help and she was on board with the game plan.

Bob headed up to bring a camera for the feeding station and checked the area out, getting to know the area and where Rosie had been seen. There was a recent sighting in the woods, so we put the feeding station there.

Knowing Rosie was staying in the area and hoping she would show at the feeding station so we could trap, Jane Towery and Carol Miller saw her as they were returning from the store.
Believing there was no way anyone could approach her and knowing she was near home, here comes the miracle.

Pam Ford did an AMAZING JOB and was able to get Rosie into her home. Thank you so much Pam!! In her words:

"I wanted to review how I found her because accidentally my instincts seemed to work and would like your input on whether they were generally right on wrong. I opened my back door to take my dog out and spooked a dog who appeared to be bedded down on my deck behind my grill. I grabbed my puppy and placed her in an expen that I had just inside the door and began talking quietly to the dog that turned out to be Rosie. I could see that see was fighting the desire to run so I backed away from the door slowly while still talking calmly and softly. Good girl. Good boy. Good dog. It's OK. Hoping for familiar words. (Would it have been better to remain silent?) I slowly backed away from the door which was wide open until she couldn't see me. I didn't see any signs of dog aggression so left my 11 week old pup in the expen right there. (Did the dog scent draw her in?) I continued talking softly and after about 5 minutes saw a nose poking into the house. Feet still outside. She saw me and withdrew. I didn't know if she was still there but backed further into the house, 2 rooms away so she couldn't see me even from the door. After another 10 minutes she slowly tiptoed into the house and started sniffing all around the sunroom and kitchen. She was between me and the door though so I didn't move. After she started exploring more of the house I slowly worked my way to the door and closed it. I ignored the dog and looked at this FB site and found her picture. (I had not seen a single poster in all those days) I called and reported I had her. When I hung up the call I couldn't find the dog and temporarily panicked thinking she got out of the house. Then searched the house and found her under a bed upstairs. I was able to coax her out and back downstairs. I placed a slip lead on her to ensure she didn't bolt when her owners came into the house. When they arrived I could see her visibly relax and her tail wagged! Made my heart so happy! What did I do right or wrong to learn for the future, or is every case so completely different?"

This is a great example of how to ignore a lost pet and to lure them into safety. ❤️🐾

Thanks to Pam, Rosie is safe at home.

‼️🐾‼️🐾‼️🐾‼️
Thoughts from Bob:

Posters!

Posters!

Posters are the number ONE method of getting a lost pet back.

Posters, why don't people take them seriously?

Why do people not listen to lost pet professionals when they say to get posters up IMMEDIATELY?

We have been telling people to get posters up IMMEDIATELY for years but it mostly falls on deaf ears.

More pets are found through the use of Posters than any other method.

Posters!

Posters should be very simple, just

LOST PET
DO NOT CHASE
PICTURE
PHONE NUMBER

(You do not want or need any other info on your Posters, and the websites like pawboost and others make THE WORST POSTERS EVER)

They should be duct taped under every stop sign in the area.

Posters, Posters, Posters........

Did I mention Posters?

Do you want to get your pet back sooner rather than later? You guessed it, POSTERS!

Please if you’ve lost your pet, PLEASE get posters up immediately, it really can get your pet back quickly.

Don't wait for your pet to just come back on its own, and don't sit back and let others do all the work. Get posters up.

Rescue groups are overwhelmed! The more you as a lost pet parent can do to help get YOUR lost pet back, the better.

Posters!
Posters!
Posters!

and lastly, POSTERS POSTERS POSTERS! 🐾

Whew…

Does anyone in or around Towson have a kennel that will be accessible 24 hours a day that when we trap a dog that it could go there overnight?

Not a big deal in Baltimore county because we can take them to pet ER however if it's a special dog or A dog we trap in Baltimore city it would be nice to have a space where they could go

Does anyone recognize this cute but nervous pup?

Running on West 23rd street in Baltimore for weeks and was terrified of people. Kelly Conway and Shelly Pizza and Corey were feeding a cat colony and saw a strange looking cat that turned out to be this pup. They couldn’t get near him so they decided to contact Lost Animal Resource Group - LARG

We arranged to bring a trap out tonight, and we checked out the area. A bunch of cats are being taken care of but the dog was coming to the end of the parking lot. We set the trap up and baited with liquid smoke and kibble and canned food and waited.

The camera was still trying to sync so I took a look and saw the dog sniffing around the trap so I backed away. I heard something and was hoping it was him but one of the cats went into the trap. Releasing the cat I was hoping it didn’t scare the dog away.

I was getting ready to head out and Corey, Shelly and Kelly were going to monitor the trap. As I was leaving my phone went off, hoping it wasn’t another cat. The pictures came through and he was there sniffing the trap, trying to get the food without going in. But eventually he was hungry and had to go into the trap to gobble the food.

Finally the camera caught him in the trap and the door closed. Corey and I walked to the trap and carried him inside the trap into my van. I opened the trap and was able to double leash him.

He is an adorable unaltered male with no chip

Shelly will be fostering him and if no family comes forward will adopt him.

Laurel MD - Today we are sending our condolences to Luis on the loss of his friend Buddy.

Buddy ran from the sitter as dogs often do when left, looking for daddy. He was being seen and flyers went up. We brought a trap out & set it up at the most recent sighting area. We were so hopeful!

Unfortunately Buddy was struck on a busy road nearby. We believe that he was being pursued, which often results in this saddest of endings for a lost dog. People want to be helpful, but sadly it can have devastating consequences.

Posted by well-meaning neighbors: "I tried to get him & he ran off." "We did as well."

Please, do not try to capture someone's lost pet. It's hard to resist, but IGNORE and report the sighting.

Run free Buddy. 😔🐾🌈

Akela is safely trapped in Ellicott city and will get needed vet care!

3 hard to catch catch in less than a week with the medium sized trap!!

Lana Finn Jacoby , Michelle and Kim Pelech reached out to Lost Animal Resource Group - LARG because they had a cat at a colony who wouldn’t go near a standard cat trap.

Since we have had other recent successes with the large trap for difficult cats, we were hoping this would work. I met Michelle and we surveyed the colony and set up the trap with wet cat food, put straw on the bottom.

Not thinking he would go in I drove to dollar tree to get some mackerel and then headed back to put the smelly fish in the trap. When I got there maybe 30 minutes later, Akela was in the trap. He was a little nervous but probably happy he was caught and could get to the vet.

More great teamwork and a quick catch.

The trap we are using is a VASALAID 43.6x198.1x16.9 on Amazon, there are different sizes
