📣 Catonsville MD - Reunion after more than 11 weeks!

Eva and her husband left their dog Harlei with a sitter on 7/4/24 when they had to go away for a few days.

Soon after they dropped their furbaby off, the sitter left the door open after a walk and the dog ran, typical behavior when a pup feels uncomfortable and wants to find mom! Of course the sitter began to chase, which scared Harlei even more and she kept running. 🆘

Eva contacted us, and we immediately started coaching the family and the sitter. The sitter didn’t have much interest in helping , but soon several neighbors jumped in and offered! 🙏🏼 There were a few neighbors who had seen her in their yards, and people started leaving food out. At one point we had a trap in a particular yard where she came often. Unfortunately, she didn’t return; this girl was definitely looking for her mama.

This morning, almost 3️⃣ months later there was a post in a lost dog group for Baltimore County. The picture was unmistakable, it was Harlei! Apparently the finder found her a week ago, and she was worried because she appeared malnourished when found.

😒 It is so easy to make judgments about an owner when you find a dog that looks neglected. Always consider the fact that this animal could have been lost for a while.
Eva was finally able to connect with the finder and retrieve her girl.

What a joyful reunion! Harlei now even has a brand new baby sister that was born while she was on her adventure. 👶🏽🩷

😍 We are so happy for this wonderful little family that is now all together again.

Thanks going out to amazing supportive neighbors Jordan, Jen, & others who were so supportive & of course Eva who didn’t give up on her baby Harlei. ♥️🐾

📣 Brooklyn NY - So happy for Sarah & Sully! 🐾♥️

Sarah reached out to us for help after her 5-year-old poodle mix Sully disappeared while on a walk. She had been living in Brooklyn for three months, and Sully has been with her since he was just a tiny puppy. She always walked with him attached by his leash to her bag. This particular day, the leash came loose. She turned around & he was GONE, like he “vanished into thin air.”

✅ We began with the customary coaching, emphasizing the importance of posting flyers in the last area he was seen. We also recommended she contact Long Island Lost Dog Search & Rescue if a few days passed with no sightings once she had at least 50 flyers out.

Denise provided a flyer and instructions—sent on Sunday at noon.

➡️ Eight hours later, the most exciting text message:
“I HAVE HIM!!!!! Thanks to your posters—Thank you forever ❤️❤️❤️”

Sarah reported that Sully was found having been "sold" to an unhoused person in a supportive housing facility. In a case like this, there would have been virtually no chance of a reunion if not for the flyers. 🪧

Yes, it’s an “old-school” method, but it WORKS! ⭐️✨

Welcome home sweet Sully!

📢 Roanoke, VA - Welcome back Zacharias!

Jennifer contacted us in a panic last evening around 9:15. She is the transport coordinator with Above and Beyond English Setter Rescue, and 10-month old Zacharias AKA Zach had escaped the back yard of his overnight host! Thankfully, Zach was wearing ID with Jennifer's phone number. 🙏🏼

We immediately started coaching with our , encouraging Jennifer & the overnight foster to STOP everyone from looking for him. Neighbors who had seen him so far said he was scared & moving fast. We designed an effective flyer, and between that and social media posts, word was out & sightings were soon coming in.

A dog lost in an unfamiliar area will usually stay close, circle the point of escape and come back regularly to "check in." In this case he went farther, likely because he was so scared, and well-meaning folks were trying to get him.

This morning Jennifer was concerned because Zach hadn't been seen since last night--she was asking about using a drone or K9 tracker to help bring Zach in safely. We assured her that none of that was necessary in this case--there had been plenty of sightings. Let the flyers to their job. It's so difficult to be patient in these situations, but it is necessary!

🥰 This afternoon, the call came in from Sarah:
Zach ran into her yard and she had him on a leash. Thanks to his ID tag with Jennifer's number, she called immediately & the fosters headed right over to get him!

This one ended happily, but not all dogs are so lucky. SO MANY get away from transport, from sitters or from a foster home.

Zach will be double leashed and will NOT be let out on his own in the yard again!

We are wishing the best for this sweet boy, and we hope he soon has a FURever home 🐾❤️

📣 Ellicott City, MD - Chuddie the tripawd is SAFE!

Chuddie’s mom Victoria reached out to us when her dog escaped from the Rover sitter. 🆘 Of course the sitter had been chasing him at first, but we put an end to that right away. There had already been a couple of sightings, so the most important thing was to get a comfort station (yummy food & scent from home) out in the area of the most recent sighting.

We assured Victoria that everyone who was telling her she needed a tracker was misinformed, since she had sightings and knew the general area that Chuddie was hanging out. All she needed was the comfort station, a good flyer to post on the street corners, and some patience.

We continued to coach Victoria, and she followed our instructions to the letter - she was well-trained on calming signals! 👀 Someone told her they had seen the dog, and left him some crackers which he ate. Food and scent were put in that spot, and Victoria sat nearby on the ground and just waited quietly.

Chuddie showed up at nightfall, came and ate the food and approached his mama very carefully while she didn’t make any eye contact. Once he recognized her by her scent, he was so happy to be back with his mama! 🐾♥️

Great work Victoria! Give Chuddie an ear scratch from his friends at LARG!

📣 COLUMBIA MD -
Most of you saw our story about Loki the Akita who had been wandering for six months before we finally were able to trap him. What an exciting accomplishment that was!
Here are the details of that capture:
https://www.facebook.com/LARGcares/videos/395292503521220/?mibextid=rS40aB7S9Ucbxw6v

🐾 What you may not know is that just five days after his capture, he again escaped his home. That was on July 5th.

Tonight, after almost 7 weeks wandering again, we were able to contain Loki. 🙌🏼🙌🏼 It is somewhat of a miracle that he returned where he had been feeding (thank you Krystal for your dedication) and went back to his habit of eating in the trap.

…Which brings us to a new dilemma. We hope that sharing the story will lead to a great FURever for this special boy.

😟 After much soul-searching, the family has decided to relinquish Loki to a more suitable home. They love him dearly, but they understand that he belongs in a different situation than what they can provide.
Here is what Loki (shelter name: Lance) needs; please share so that we can help him.

• Someone who understands a flight risk dog
• Preferably no other pets
• Preferably adult only home, or at least no small children
• 6 ft or higher fence
• Someone familiar with the Akita breed would be ideal

“Lance” is 2 years old, a STRONG boy, neutered, very sweet & scared. He needs a quiet home with people who can be dedicated to his rehabilitation.

For now, he will be returned to the local shelter where he was adopted from. He will be available for rescue only, so if you know of a reputable rescue who is willing to take this on and has a foster/adopter available, please pass this information on. Lance needs a chance to shine 🐾♥️✨

📣 Pikesville MD - Deacon is finally home after a scary 10 day adventure!

He was staying with family and having fun when he scrammed through a small opening in the door and took off! He was nowhere to be found. Deacon is a very small shihtzu, maybe 5 lbs or so.

They reached out to LARG for help, and we started coaching on posters and feeding stations.

Only a few sightings came in and one very close to the house. We immediately rushed a trap out and set it. Aaron was doing a great job of putting food in and making sure the trap was set.

Then some sightings a few streets down near woods. Aaron moved the trap and we waited. Deacon showed up at the trap, but it was locked open until we saw him near the trap. We set the trap and more waiting.

He showed up at the trap yesterday but walked away. Fresh food at the trap and then this afternoon, Deacon showed up and walked by, and then all of a sudden the camera pings and showed him in the trap and safe!!

He was carried in the trap into the house and is finally safe. He has a limp and is being taken to the vet to be checked out. Hopefully nothing serious.

The family did a great job and we are thankful that Deacon is home!

📢York, PA - These are the ones that hurt the most.

Riley got out in March 2023 when his fur-mom Sarah was visiting Manchester MD from out-of-state. LARG jumped in to help. There were lots of sightings in the beginning, but this scared skittish boy kept running. He would disappear every time a trap (or even just food) was put out for him. It didn’t help that people kept trying to catch him.

Last June he was eating daily on a porch in Hanover PA, and the plan was to use a drop net to catch him. We were so hopeful! We began to discretely assemble the structure on the porch; Riley never returned after that. 😢

A few months later in Sept 2023, more sightings of a dog we suspect was Riley in York PA. All the usual things were done, feeding station etc. The dog was only seen for a few days and again disappeared.

Then the news about a month ago—he was being seen in a York Co neighborhood. He was eating & staying around.

The attached post on Riley’s page tells the rest of the story.

We’re sorry, sweet boy. Run free & wait for your momma at the bridge.

📣 Silver Spring MD - Sammie is home after a very worrisome 10 days!

This beautiful calico cat did a wonderful thing: she woke mom up when she sensed danger - there was a fire on the roof! Sammie and mom safely escaped the house, but when firefighters arrived Sammie ran off in fear.

Rachel contacted LARG 8 days later. She had already done all of the right things, scent from home outside along with food, spread the word in the neighborhood, contacted shelters & vets, posted on social media. Typically cats don’t wander too far, and they will often come home within a week. But because of this traumatic event Sammie stayed away a little longer.

We encouraged Rachel to be patient & keep doing what she was doing. Tracking wasn’t a good option because there was no reliable scent item from Sammie.

Yesterday we received this happy message:

“Sammie just came home!!! She walked into the backyard by the neighbor. We are staying there and I saw her from the bedroom window”

This beautiful girl is back with her family where she belongs. 🐾♥️

Oscar is finally home after 5 weeks out in really hot weather in Baldwin!

He got out June 2, after a neighbor cat picked a fight through the screened in patio. Oscar ran and was seen across the street at a neighbor’s house. But then no sightings. Wettersten reached out to Lost Animal Resource Group - LARG for help. We coached on posters And a feeding station.

With no sign of him, K9 Carly came out day 10 to help search. K9 Carly picked up scent which took us behind the neighbor’shouse towards the woods. Knowing cats will try to circle back to home we went back and not wanting to push him, started again at the house to see if there was scent near home.

K9 Carly followed where Oscar went behind Carol’s house and around the neighborhood to a few areas with trees and a water source. She circled the area a couple of times. Believing he was still near home and active, we planned on cameras and feeding stations.

Knowing that he was attacked in his own home, we thought he might not want to return.

Nothing for a few days but then there was a sighting a couple streets away so traps and cameras went out. He obviously didn’t like that so he disappeared for a little bit. More posters went up farther out.

Then yesterday, Carol texted me that he was found in her neighbor’s yard after 5 weeks. He came out of the bushes where he was hiding and after a couple of hours talking to him and giving him food, he let them put him in the carrier without a fight. He was just hot and tired of not being home.

Safe at home, lost 3 lbs and going to the vet.

Tracking can be very helpful for giving a direction of travel and an area to focus on, and sometimes it is just to give the family hope that their pet is still in the area and alive. Once you have an area, there is still work to be done as very few tracks will actually walk up and find a lost pet.

Carol and her family never gave up, continued to do the hard work of posters, feeding stations and traps and they were able to be reunited with their handsome Oscar.

Thank you Brandi Palmer for saving Kobe!!

He got out Friday night off his leash, he was freshly adopted from barcs. He Took off down beards hill rd to max’s road his mom Estelle and his dad Joe immediately started driving around hanging flyers and making it well known all day Saturday. Brandi’s friend Ashley works at pets supply plus in Aberdeen where Estelle went in to hang a flyer. Ashley called her and she reached out to Estelle. Estelle set out her scent articles and sprayed the area with liquid smoke but no sightings.

They hung flyers all up maxa rd at stop signs and intersections and the neighborhoods. They plastered Facebook, Nextdoor app and ring. That’s when Dave saw the flyer and spotted him on eversit Dr and called Estelle that was at 930 this am. Estelle went over then her and her husband saw him. Brandi brought the trap over immediately and they did the bob method and waited. Estelle and Joe had come to freshen up the water and food when they were standing in the driveway, the kind folks who let us set the trap there saw him coming they watching him go in 💗💗💗

He is safe and recovering at home, happy to be safe with his family.

Great job Brandi for great trap placement and determination.

📣 Elkridge, MD - Miracle is safe after about 18 hours on the run in the extreme heat!

This pup definitely lived up to his name. Miracle had only been in his new home less than a day when he found an opening in the fence and slipped out, taking off running.

His new owner began trying to get him, and some neighbors were also searching, which likely made him keep moving farther away.

Once LARG was contacted, we began coaching with our best practices and told everyone to stop searching. Flyers were encouraged of course, and we were hoping that Miracle would come back to his new home to check in, as usually happens with dogs lost from a new/unfamiliar location.

Miracle’s previous owner came out to help by walking in the area, dropping her scent to keep him around. She had been forced to give her boy up due to impossible circumstances, and her heart was breaking knowing that he was out there somewhere in this heat.

Once the flyers were posted, calls started coming in. The first ones of course were reports of seeing him yesterday. Then a couple from today, and then the payoff phone call! Somebody had him, he had been found lying near the road, exhausted and barely able to move.

Miracle was rushed to the Veterinary Emergency Group, where he was immediately given IV fluids and checked over well. He had an extremely high temperature and his paw pads are burnt.

We are thankful for the community support and teamwork that brought this guy home 🐾😊♥️

‼️‼️Please be sure to check your fences often for any weak spots that you may not notice on a daily basis. This is especially important with a new pet who is always a flight risk, looking for a way to find something familiar.‼️‼️

📢 Welcome to the first week of July, the busiest week of the year for those of us in the lost pet community! 🎇

In the month of June 2024, we received a total of 119 help request forms. 🤯
One of the last ones - from Abingdon MD - was for Benny, or "Benny Boots" as his mama Lindsey calls him.

🐶The little four-month-old pup got away and ran through the front door of Lindsey's mom's house--she was watching him while Lindsey was away. Of course he took off on a great adventure, and with lots of people chasing, he ran farther! NOTE: NO dog ever stops and lets you catch it when you chase; that NEVER happens. What often happens in a case like this is that the dog will run into the street with disastrous results. 🚨

We began our coaching, recommending an immediate STOP🛑to the chasing and search parties! Flyers, good familiar smells & yummy chicken at the escape point would be the best plan.

We got the following message from Lindsey:
"Benny was crossing 924 when someone almost hit him. They stopped and took him to their home and called us. He is definitely a miracle puppy! Thank you for all of your help!" 🙏🏼

Likely he ended up in the road due to people trying to grab/chase him. We're so glad he was wearing ID and he was found safely!

Live your best life Benny Boots! 🐾❤

Paris is home safe after a 4 day adventure near Harper’s Ferry in extreme heat!

Paris was able to sneak out the door and took off but no one saw her, she just disappeared 😞
They immediately went out to search for her with a heat index of 108 degrees and thunderstorms coming. A community was helping to look even bringing a standard drone.

They reached out to Lost Animal Resource Group - LARG for help. We did advise that the search parties stop as that can cause a dog to run further (even with a deaf senior dog). We recommended posters and a feeding station but they already had the posters up.

With no sightings, they asked K9 Carly to come out and help. We headed up knowing it would be a very hot day so we brought extra water. K9 Carly picked up scent and took off in the search for Paris (82 degrees). Our first segment took us through the woods and across the street to the right of the house. K9 Carly circled in the woods a bit and then right back to the house so I think she tried to get home but then the scent led away from home again.

After a nice rest in air conditioning, we started again and K9 Carly took us to the left and across the street and followed the stream heading towards the first area. We went back to the house for another rest and checked a few areas (97 degrees).

We also flew the thermal drone to see if we could see anything. With the high temperatures and the thick trees, even with thermal we couldn’t see anything.

“ Update 6/23: • The Search for Paris Continues •
We are so grateful to Bob Swensen and his amazing pup Carly for coming out this morning to assist in our search for Paris in Knoxville, Maryland.
Carly spent about 45 seconds sniffing Carly’s bed and went sprinting through the woods with Bob close behind - faster than we could keep up. Bob advised that it’s rare for tracking to result in a walk up rescue of the dog, so we should hope for a sense of where she has been.
He provided us with a comprehensive map with a radius of about 1 mile from her foster home. During the search they also found what is possibly some poo from Paris. 🙏 We have never been so grateful to find poo. “

We suggested they set up food and water stations at various spots along the map Carly created and also set up cameras at those locations so we can see if Paris was coming home. We also recommended that foster mom walk calmly in the area K9 Carly had indicated as the likely area she was in.

Then came the text one day after the track….

🎉 🚨 FOUND ALIVE AND WELL! 🚨 🎉

*The face you make when you lead dozens of folks and a tracking dog named Carly on a wild goose chase and miraculously foster mom stumbles upon you walking down a stream in dense woods.*

PARIS IN THE HOUSE! 🙌🏼💜🐾🎉

On foster mom’s search Monday evening she traced her way downstream along K9 Carly’s track praying Paris stuck close to water, and who did she find less than a mile from home.

They rushed Paris to the ER and she is doing well and resting after her adventure in the woods. This miracle pup will be up for adoption!

This like all rescues depend on a caring community working together smartly to bring a lost pet home, especially senior pups like Paris. Thank you to everyone who helped.

📣 Rosita is safe this afternoon in Fairfax, VA after some very hot days out!

Story as told by Bob Swensen:

She is a newly rescued Westie that was used as a breeder and went to a new home after being recently spayed. MaríaJosé Ovalle brought Rosita to visit her mom. They were being very careful but they had a delivery and Rosita took off through a tiny crack in the door.

Off Rosita ran, and they were out looking for her in the extreme heat of the day. They reached out to Lost Animal Resource Group - LARG via Susan Patti and we start coaching right away, asking them and the neighbors not to go out looking or calling or searching or following, but just to let her settle.

Posters started to go up in the area in the hopes of getting a sighting. Mom was worried about the heat and then the next day there were no sightings. We suggested more posters further out and then through a neighborhood connection, someone had seen her one and a half miles from the point of escape. We suggested more posters in that area.

This morning I got a call that there had been several sightings in that same area one and a half miles away. we were trying to figure out what to do next. I was already on my way to a computer client in Sterling Virginia, and Looking in my backseat, I saw that I had forgotten to remove the collapsible trap that was donated from Lab Rescue, and it turned out I was only 20 miles away from their house.

I took care of my client issues and had them meet me. I showed them exactly how to set the trap, how to bait the trap and how to position the camera. I headed home in the hopes that with a camera monitoring the trap, Rosita would find it and go in.

I got a call on the way home that she had been caught 30 minutes after setting the trap!! Rosita was safe. They carried her inside the trap to the car and into the house!!

Many thanks to everyone who helped and the neighbors who called in the sightings and put food and water out and let the family know that she was in the trap.

If your company needs IT support we do a great job, and I can bring a Trap to catch lost pets while I’m there 😂
