Animal Alliance is no longer doing spay/neuter services directly, but is donating money to MARC. (Marion Animal Resource Connection. If you live in Grundy County and are low income, please call MARC at 423-240-9074 and leave a message with your name and a phone number where you can be reached. A MARC representative will return your call and help you get your pet(s) fixed.
If you live in Marion County, even on the mountain, MARC will help you fix your pet with their other funding. For those of you who live in Franklin County, even on the mountain, Animal Harbor in Wi******er has money available through grants to help low income pet owners who live in Franklin county.
Please don't let a lack of money stop you for doing the right thing and getting your pet(s) fixed. It's good for you, it's good for your pet, and it's good for your community. Fix those pets before they litter and help end pet homelessness.

As the founder and president of Animal Alliance South Cumberland, I know this has been a very difficult decision for our volunteers and myself to make. We are proud of the successes of our program and the dedication and hard work that our volunteers have made to help our mountain dogs and cats live healthier, happier lives. Over the past eleven (11) years, we have helped spay and neuter over 4,965 dogs and cats and have prevented the births of thousands of unwanted puppies and kittens who would have otherwise been homeless. This is a heartbreaking decision for us.

We had hoped to find another group of volunteers to take over our spay/neuter assistance program, but so far this had not happened. We are still discussing options, but in the meantime, we will be taking a much-needed break.

You can be a part of the solution to ending their homelessness or you can be a part of the problem. Please be a part of the solution by fixing your cats (male and female) by 4-5 months of age and prevent a litter.

I just went to a page to find a phone number for a rescue. I am always shocked at how many people will financially help and volunteer with a rescue or shelter, yet don't have any time or money to help a spay/neuter assistance program. It's so sad and discouraging, but I don't see it changing in my lifetime. Helping pet owners spay and neuter their pets and educating them about "when" and "why" they really should be fixing their pets is the key. When you have a flood in your basement, you can dip out the water with a bucket or turn off the faucet. Spay/neuter is turning off the faucet.

As the United Spay Alliance in Washington, DC. says, "REDUCE THEIR NUMBERS. ELEVATE THEIR STATUS. END THEIR HOMELESSNESS. People can spend all their money on rescue and while it a humane thing to do, it doesn't lessen the numbers of puppies and kittens being born. You can't rescue your way out pet homelessness.

Please watch this video and think about protecting your pet(s) both cats and dogs. If you allow your pets to have litters, give them away to people you may not know very well, then some of the dogs and cats pay a horrible price for you not taking the time to get your pets fixed. Please, please, please get your dogs and cats fixed by 5 months and prevent an unwanted litter and those precious puppies or kittens going into a home where they can be so abused. I've seen so much animal abuse, right here in Grundy County, that I'm worn out from it. It all goes back to each of us who say we love animals to just get them fixed, males and females. Get them fixed before they have a litter and keep them for their natural life. You can be a part of the solution to ending the cycle of abuse or you can be a part of the problem. It's in your hands. Call 931-235-9006 and ask for help.

Shelter Dog Steals Everything He Can Find For The Sweetest Reason

This dog reminds me of two hound mix dogs I picked up on the side of the mountain a few years ago. Someone called me and said that three puppies had been abandoned on the side of the mountain and one had already been shot. I got two medium sized crates and headed out. When I got there, one dog had already bleed to death and the other two were NOT puppies. They were full grown dogs. They were also very scared, so I took slip collars and lassoed them one at a time with them jumping and pulling like bucking broncos due to being so afraid. Next, I had the issue of picking them up and stuffing them into medium sized crates. Cars and pickup trucks were also whizzing by and no one stopped to help. I thought to myself, "These people whizzing by are probably also those people who always say, "Why doesn't somebody do something about all the strays", as they do nothing themselves.
After I got them to my house where they were safe, they stuck to me like glue. I set up a kennel for them in with a dog house and put a Kraunda bed on my front porch for them too. They choice to sleep on the porch curled up together. During the day when I wasn't looking, they would come through the pet door and "steal" my clothes our of my laundry hamper and take them to their front porch to put in their bed to sleep on. They were such sweet dogs. After they were both spayed, vaccinated and ready for adoption, no one wanted a hound mix dog. Most people want a puppy and miss out on some of the best dogs. Nashville Humane agreed to take both of them and it wasn't long until they were adopted. These were two really nice dogs, who deserved better than being dumped out like garbage by some abusive fool. I named them Charlotte and Camille.

Kevin’s family surrendered him to the Austin Animal Center in November, and he’s been there ever since. Recently, due to some space issues, the 4-year-old Lab mix was moved out of the kennels and into one of the offices — and that’s when things suddenly started to go missing around the offic...

You can be a part of the problem of homeless kittens by allowing yours to breed or you can be a part of the solution by fixing your cats before they have a litter. A cat can go into heat at 4 months. If you are low income and need help fixing your cat(s) (or puppy because female dogs can go into heat at 5 months), please call 931-235-9006. Leave a message and a volunteer will return your call. Please don't forget about those males too. It takes two to tango...931-235-9006....

Please do not support the sale of dyed animals. Day old chicks and baby rabbits have very special needs and diets. They are susceptible to injury, disease, high levels of stress, etc. Although rabbits can be weaned at 4 weeks of age they should be kept with their mothers until older than 6 weeks. Baby animals need to be kept warm as they cannot regulate their body temperatures as well as adults can. They need to be kept safe from other pets that may see them as prey. They are not toys to be tossed aside when the novelty wears off; they are live animals that feel pain and have needs. Do not buy animals as gifts! Stick to the chocolate version.
