Oakwood Veterinary Hospital is seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician to join our team! This is an excellent position for experienced technicians looking to fully utilize their skills in the surgery suite! Our hospital provides advanced surgical services including a range of orthopedics and oral surgery, while providing referral services within our local community, as well as to our own dedicated client base.
In this role, you will assist the veterinarian in surgery, including scrubbing in/gowning; review and implement treatment plans; and address client questions regarding their pet’s care. You will also work closely with your team to manage the veterinarian’s orders, ensuring the highest surgical standards of patient care while maintaining an efficient workflow to keep procedures on schedule. This role is ideal for detail-oriented technicians who excel in multi-tasking and want to fully utilize their skillset and license. One of the last things you anticipate hearing is that your lab has bone cancer at 1 year old. Some of our favorite clients had to make the tough decision to amputate their dog Queenie’s leg today. Dr. Henshaw and Anna tried to make the owner’s day a little easier by keeping them updated and sending them pictures- including this pre surgery “game time” picture before rocking out the surgery.
Queenie is doing absolutely fantastic and is the cutest 3 legged pooch! 🥰🐕

✨Announcement✨
Dr. KC Van Fleet will be departing Oakwood's team on May 8 to open a day-time Urgent Care in Traverse City. He will not be offering general practice, but rather his focus will be on day-time emergencies and critical cases. His new practice is called Omnivet and will be open in June. Oakwood is ✨BEYOND HAPPY✨ to announce that Dr. Dana is back from her extended medical leave and seeing patients!

Also, many of you may have heard or have already met Dr. Cluett. She is a local veterinarian working part time at Oakwood, helping us and our clients during Dr. Dana’s leave. We are pleased to announce she’s going to continue to see patients! We have enjoyed the ability to book clients sooner for appointments and with more flexibility!

We are a progressive, well equipped, busy 4 doctor small animal practice. We are searching for experienced individuals who can provide quality medical care to patients and high customer service to their owners. Enjoy a rewarding career helping pets and their owners provide the very best veterinary care!

Communication skills, attention to detail and organizational skills are a must. We value team work and cooperation, as our team (Receptionists, Technician Assistants, Technicians, and Doctors) all work together to educate our clients. You must be comfortable interacting with the public as well as their pets.

A full time work schedule would include 4 days a week, and 1-2 Saturdays a month. Oakwood is open Monday-Friday 7:30am-5:00pm and Saturdays 8:00am-Noon.

Employees are eligible for discounted pet services, health insurance, Simple IRA, and paid time off. Pay scale commensurate with experience.

As clients, we realize you never make it past the exam room. So what is in the rest of our new, state of the art, building? What does our surgical room look like? Where do your pets go when Dr. Mason “takes them to the back” for their bloodwork and nail trim? What does our xray room look like? (And how the heck do the technicians get your crazy 90 pound lab to stay still on a table?!) Where does Dr. Henshaw call you from when he’s done with your dog’s surgery? Maybe you’re new to the area and would like a tour before becoming a client!

Join our technician manager, Anna, for a fun and engaging hospital tour! See every inch of the hospital while Anna tells you fun facts about Oakwood, the doctors, and what she and the rest of the technicians do (Hint: it’s A LOT). Ask questions, meet staff, and feel like a part of the family!

Hospital tours are done based on availability, Tuesday-Friday and select Saturday afternoons! Please call our front staff and ask for Anna, she’ll find a time that works for you! 🐾🐶🐱
