Beacon Bay Dog Training

Beacon Bay Dog Training I help busy people get the well-behaved dog they have always wanted without wasting a lot of time and effort. Guaranteed.

I work with families who are struggling with their dog’s wild or reactive behavior. They would like to have a well-behaved dog who can be calm and polite in the house, easy to take on walks and fun to take along on adventures whether that is an off-leash hike or a trip to the hardware store. We also work with new puppy owners who want to prevent problems from occurring the first place. What separa

tes me from other dog trainers is that I have a comprehensive program that delivers results. Because I am a full-time dog trainer, I can help clients make more progress faster and to a more advanced level than other trainers. And because of this, my clients enjoy having an awesome dog and they have the peace of mind knowing that they have lifetime support if problems arise later.

Riley was having some typical teenage problems like not always listening and jumping up.

He now listens much better and knows how to behave politely.

We will see him soon for follow up lessons to help his owners learn how to help Riley do his best.

Welcome Riley to our Fresh Start Program!

Don't let that serious face fool you, Riley is a silly boy!

Some of his old hobbies included: counter cruising, not listening, chasing critters and greeting people by jumping all over them.

Riley's new hobbies include waiting politely on his bed while food is being prepared, listening the first time he is asked to do something, coming when called and sitting politely to meet people.

He is also learning how to play politely with TaterTot so he knows how to behave safely around small dogs.

Sigh. What to say about Bean?

Bean's owner did all of the right things to be a responsible dog owner. But the system failed them.

A rescue system based on purely positive training that made the rescuers feel good but didn't do much to prepare Bean to safely navigate the human world.

And when things got challenging, guess who wasn't there for Bean's family. Yep that rescue with a "lifetime" commitment.

But Bean's owner never wavered in their commitment to Bean. They have embraced the process and are learning how to guide Bean through this crazy world of ours.

There are lots of adventures ahead for these two! And they are in our lifetime program so we will be there for them all along the way.

I love receiving updates from clients. If you are in the Central Neighborhood, you may spot these two getting their steps in.

"I've been sending you thanks all week.

First, I took Pixel through the downtown neighborhoods on Halloween and she was SO good. Children were petting her and there were a lot of distractions but she was calm and happy.

Second, my mother in law came last Friday and Pixel didn't jump up on her at ALL!!! She was really impressed and happy. You really helped transform her from monster to "good girl". Thank you!!!!"

I am proud of you both! Keep up the good work. ❤️

Adventure awaits these two! Morel is settling back in and showing just how well she can listen and behave at home and in the neighborhood.

They will be back to their old stomping grounds before you know it!

I don't enjoy this sort of thing because I love dogs.

But my first priority is always to keep the dogs that are in my care or under my supervision safe.

So if you're going to insist on parking right next to me in a not full parking lot where several of us are standing with our on leash dogs and you choose to just let your dog out of your vehicle to approach us, know that I'm not going to let that happen.

I am sorry to your dog. I'm sorry that they don't have an owner who prioritizes their safety as well as that of the public.

But to the owner, I am not sorry.

On the upside it was a great learning opportunity for my clients that will hopefully empower them to do whatever they feel is necessary to keep their dogs safe If they are ever in a similar situation.

Even if it is not "nice".

I'm not sure how I got so lucky to have two blue merle girls in for training at the same time. Lucky for me, Morel has brown eyes so I'll be able to tell them apart!

I am surprised I haven't met Morel and her owner before. We go to the same groomer, the same veterinarian and the same "undisclosed location". Morel has very good taste! ♥️

Morel and her owner have done a lot of training together and have made nice progress in several areas.

The biggest thing Morel is still struggling with is dog reactivity. So we will be working on that along with making sure she is a good listener even when she is off-leash. 🐇

Arriving this week for our fresh start Plus program is Roo.

She is about 6 months old and we trained her big brother, Koda. Her owner would like the same level of training and support for Roo.

Roo has the usual adolescent assortment of concerns. She needs to stop jumping up and start reliably coming when called. Better leash manners are also on our to do list for Roo.

Just wow! Bogey is one of the nicest golden I have had my hands in in a long time.

He is laid back, easy going and a fast learner. He has the makings of an ah-mazing family dog.

I think he would also enjoy doing therapy dog visits so he may end up spreading his special brand of sunshine around his community. ♥️

Wally was a fairly well-behaved dog.

Like a lot of dogs, he didn't always come when you called him and sometimes he was too excitable. But for the most part, his behavior was okay.

But as Wally and his owner get ready to head out for some extended road trip adventures, he needs to be a really good dog.

And now that he knows how to listen better, be more polite and come when called, they are going to be able to have the best of adventures together.

Halloween Safety Tips for Your Dog

Halloween can be fun for people, but it’s often stressful for dogs. The constant stream of costumed strangers ringing the doorbell or knocking can overwhelm even the calmest dogs. If your dog struggles with front door behavior, Trick-or-
Treat night may make it worse.

Prevent Escapes and Reactions - Scared dogs may growl, snap, or even bolt out the door. Make sure your dog wears an ID tag with updated contact information. Consider using a GPS collar for extra peace of mind in case they escape.

Create a Calm Space - Keep your dog in a quiet room with background music or TV to drown out the noise. A treat-stuffed Kong or special toy can help reduce anxiety.

Watch the Treats - Chocolate is toxic to dogs. Keep Halloween candy out of reach and store it safely after trick-or-treating. If your dog does get into chocolate, contact your vet immediately.

Costume Caution - If dressing your dog in a costume, ensure it doesn’t block their vision or restrict movement. Safety and comfort are the priorities.

Trunk-or-Treat and Parade Tips - If you’re taking your dog to a trunk-or-treat or parade, make sure they’re comfortable in crowds and around children. Keep them on a short leash, bring water, and take frequent breaks. Be mindful of dropped candy and other harmful foods.

By following these tips, you and your dog can enjoy a safe and stress-free Halloween!

I know what you're thinking! But Wally is not unhappy, mad or in any way anything but delightful.

So far he has been very agreeable on the things I've asked him to do. He has not caused trouble with the other dogs and he is just an all-around pretty good boy.

He does have some things to work on but that face is not an indication of his personality.

Bogey is a sweet puppy who was starting to act like a rebellious teenager at times.

That shift in behavior is normal development in dogs. We find that 6--9 months is a great time to start formal training to stop bigger programs from developing.

We have worked with Bogey's family before and they knew it was time to get him started on the right course.

And, yes, he is as squishy as he looks!
