From Defense to Connection

Just a few days ago, this horse would buck, bite, and kick if I got too close. He wasn’t being difficult—he was being honest.

That kind of response comes from fear, not defiance. And when you’ve never been given a reason to trust people, why wouldn’t you protect yourself?

We didn’t use pressure. We didn’t use control.

We used connection.

Regulation. Boundaries. Presence.

And slowly, something started to shift.

Now, he watches. He follows. He makes the choice to be near.

It’s not flashy. It’s not fast. But it’s real.

Trust is being built, step by step. Not through dominance—but through respect and relationship.

That’s the work.

Follow us to see more of his journey.

“We came to work… Hank came to flirt.”
Meet Hank the Hunk—our untouched 11-year-old stallion who had zero interest in connection today… unless you count the mares across the fence.

While we were trying to introduce groundwork and presence, Hank had other priorities. Rolling in the dirt? Check. Strutting for the ladies? Double check.

But in Natural Lifemanship, we know even distraction is information. Today wasn’t about obedience—it was about observing where his attention wanted to go. And today? That attention was 100% on the girls.

One day at a time with this hunky handful.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month

At Crossing Arrows Ranch, we honor the strength and resilience of survivors.

Sexual assault leaves more than physical scars—it can impact a person’s nervous system, relationships, sense of safety, and ability to trust themselves and others. Healing from this kind of trauma takes time, support, and the right environment.

That’s why our equine therapy program includes a trauma therapist with experience working with survivors of domestic abuse and sexual assault. She is trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and Somatic Experiencing—two powerful, body-based approaches proven to help the brain and body process trauma in a safe and effective way.

Through the lens of Natural Lifemanship, we combine evidence-based therapy with the healing power of relationship—both human and equine. Our horses aren’t used as tools or mirrors, but as partners who offer honest connection and the opportunity to rebuild trust without pressure or judgment.

We believe that every survivor deserves to feel safe in their body, connected in their relationships, and empowered in their healing. If you or someone you care about is ready to explore this path, we’re here to walk alongside you.

You are not alone. Healing is possible.

Urgent Rescue at Crossing Arrows Ranch

We were called to rescue three neglected horses—each one with a story of hardship, but one beautiful mare is especially in need. Her hooves are painfully overgrown, causing serious joint pain. She winces with every step, and it breaks our hearts.

We couldn’t turn our backs.
Now we need your help.

Our immediate needs include:
• Veterinary care
• Farrier work
• Specialized feed and supplements

Every dollar makes a difference.
Whether it’s $5 or $50, your donation helps ease her pain and gives these horses the second chance they deserve.

Please consider donating today:

Thank you for being part of their healing journey.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month
In our equine therapy sessions, we hold space for survivors to reconnect with their bodies, their boundaries, and their inner strength—at their own pace and with the support of a calm, attuned partner.

Horses don’t judge. They don’t pressure. They simply invite connection. And for many survivors, that’s where healing begins.

This month, and every month, we stand with survivors. You are not alone. Follow us @gmail.com

**“When your Highlander decides he’s a professional escape artist… and a DIY decorator! 🐂🎨

Somehow, he broke out of the corral and found the twine stash—now he’s sporting the latest ‘ranch chic’ look. Don’t worry, he’s untangled and just as proud of himself as ever. 😂

Life on the ranch is never boring! Who else has a livestock troublemaker?”**

🐴 Rescue Update at Crossing Arrows Ranch 🐴

Our rescues are making incredible progress! Some of these horses came to us fearful and untrusting, but today, they’re learning that connection can happen on their terms. Raven let the trainer, Nikki Herd, pet her and brush at arm’s length, a huge milestone for a horse who once kept her distance —a powerful step toward trust and healing.

But we need your help! To continue their rehabilitation, we’re raising funds to relocate them to our new facility and provide the shelter, feed, and care they deserve. Every donation helps give these horses a second chance at life. 💙

📢 Donate today and be part of their journey on our website:

From Natural Horsemanship to Natural Lifemanship: Honoring the Roots, Embracing the Growth

The journey of relational horsemanship has been shaped by pioneers like Monty Roberts, who showed the world that horses thrive through trust, not force. His revolutionary work in Natural Horsemanship emphasized communication, understanding, and the power of choice—transforming how we interact with horses.

Natural Lifemanship builds on this foundation, expanding beyond training into healing. Rooted in trauma-informed principles, it recognizes that both humans and horses need connection, safety, and co-regulation to grow. It’s not just about working with horses—it’s about healing through them.

Monty taught us that “violence is never the answer.” Natural Lifemanship takes this wisdom further, showing that connection is not just the goal—it’s the path.

Introducing this beauty Magnolia (Maggie) as our farm protector. We have had an issue with coyotes on the farm (ranch) which took my sweet boy Cosmo. She is already protective at 9 weeks old and watches over our dachshunds and will soon be watching over the goats and calves. We have fallen in love with this nurturing sweet girl!

HEALING WITH RESCUE MUSTANGS: WHERE STRENGTH MEETS FREEDOM

Step into a journey this summer where the untamed power of mustangs inspires resilience and renewal. At Crossing Arrows Ranch, our innovative equine therapy program blends natural lifemanship with the wild spirit of mustangs to create a sanctuary for healing.

Natural Lifemanship
Our approach honors the innate wisdom of horses by fostering mutual trust and gentle guidance. When our mustangs lead and our hearts follow, healing truly begins.

Respecting the Wild Spirit
Mustangs embody freedom, resilience, and raw authenticity. We honor their natural behaviors and treat them with the respect they deserve—values that inspire us to overcome life’s challenges with courage.

Healing Through Equine Therapy
For trauma survivors—including veterans, survivors of domestic abuse, and survivors of sexual abuse—our program offers a safe, nurturing space. Through meaningful interactions with our mustangs, participants rebuild trust, process deep emotions, and rediscover inner strength. This summer, we’re also preparing new stalls and shelters to give our mustangs a secure, comfortable home, reflecting the stability we aim to provide for our community.

Join us on this transformative journey and discover how the wild beauty of mustangs can spark hope, healing, and empowerment.

🌟 “Even the strongest among us need space to breathe.” 🌟

Meet Willie Nelson, our Highlander bull. He’s strong, majestic, and, like all of us, has his grumpy days. But here’s the thing—his grumpiness is a signal, not a flaw. It’s his way of saying he needs space, respect, or a moment to process.

In life, we often push through, ignoring our inner signals. Natural Lifemanship teaches us to listen—to our animals, to others, and most importantly, to ourselves.

💡 What if we approached our “grumpy” moments with curiosity instead of criticism?

💖 Self-love means giving yourself grace, taking the space you need, and allowing yourself to feel without judgment. Let’s honor our inner Highlander bull today.
