🌟 “Even the strongest among us need space to breathe.” 🌟

Meet Willie Nelson, our Highlander bull. He’s strong, majestic, and, like all of us, has his grumpy days. But here’s the thing—his grumpiness is a signal, not a flaw. It’s his way of saying he needs space, respect, or a moment to process.

In life, we often push through, ignoring our inner signals. Natural Lifemanship teaches us to listen—to our animals, to others, and most importantly, to ourselves.

💡 What if we approached our “grumpy” moments with curiosity instead of criticism?

💖 Self-love means giving yourself grace, taking the space you need, and allowing yourself to feel without judgment. Let’s honor our inner Highlander bull today.

🌿 Building Trust with a Horse: A Journey, Not a Task 🐴

Trust isn’t built overnight—it’s cultivated through consistency, respect, and understanding. Horses are relational beings with their own emotions, needs, and boundaries. To earn their trust, we must:

✨ Listen to their cues: Horses communicate with their body language. Pay attention to what they’re saying instead of focusing solely on what you want.
✨ Practice patience: Trust develops over time. Don’t rush the process—let the horse choose connection.
✨ Be reliable: Show up with consistency and calm energy. Horses need to know they can rely on us to be safe and attuned.
✨ Offer choice: Connection thrives when it’s voluntary. Allow the horse space to come to you rather than forcing interaction.

Building trust is a partnership, not a one-way street. When we honor their autonomy and meet them where they are, we create relationships rooted in authenticity and respect. 💚

Have you ever felt the moment a horse chose to trust you? Share your story in the comments! ⬇️

As a task oriented person, a principle that I have vowed to live by going forward is “Relationship over Task”:
At the heart of NL is the idea that the process of building a relationship is more critical than achieving a specific outcome or task. This is especially true when working with trauma survivors, as healing is rooted in safety and connection rather than performance or compliance. This also goes for working with our horses, it is so important that we build relationship instead of fostering compliance.

🌿Rebuilding Connection Through Natural Lifemanship🌿

For active military members and veterans, finding peace and reconnection after trauma can feel like a distant goal. But here on the ranch, we’re seeing incredible moments of healing. 💙

In this photo, you’ll see one of our military members experiencing the power of Natural Lifemanship—building a deep bond with her horse based on trust, not control. As she leads, the horse follows willingly, fully engaged, a symbol of the connection and trust that’s growing between them. 🐴✨

At Crossing Arrows Ranch we create these moments of connection for our veterans. It’s not just about horsemanship—it’s about healing from within.

Embracing Change: A Journey of Growth with Horses

Change is inevitable, but it’s not always easy. Whether it’s a shift in our personal lives, careers, or relationships, change can bring a mix of emotions—excitement, fear, uncertainty, and hope. But the beauty of change lies in its ability to push us beyond our comfort zones and into a space of growth.

Working with horses in equine therapy has taught me that change is an integral part of healing and personal transformation. Horses respond to the energy we bring into our sessions, reflecting back our ability to adapt, trust, and let go of control. When we’re open to embracing the natural flow of change, just as a horse would, we can create stronger, more authentic connections with ourselves and others.

It’s natural to feel hesitant or even resistant when faced with something new. But when we let go of what is familiar and embrace the unknown, we open ourselves up to endless possibilities. Just like horses rely on the subtle shifts in their environment, we too can learn to sense the opportunities hidden within life’s changes. The key is to trust that each change, no matter how small or significant, is an opportunity to evolve into a better version of ourselves.

Through equine therapy, I’ve witnessed the incredible power of change—not just in my own life but in the lives of those I work with. Horses show us the importance of being present and trusting the process, no matter how uncertain or challenging it may feel. When we move with change instead of fighting against it, we build resilience and uncover new strengths within ourselves.

Alan Watts captures this beautifully:
“The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.”

Let’s learn from the wisdom of horses and dance with the changes life brings, trusting that every step will lead us to where we’re meant to be.

September is Su***de Awareness Month 💚

At Crossing Arrows Ranch, we believe that healing happens through connection—whether with others or with animals. Horses have a unique ability to sense emotions and help people find peace in difficult times.

Equine therapy offers a safe space to process feelings, reduce anxiety, and foster hope. Let’s break the stigma around mental health and support one another through life’s challenges.

Remember: It’s okay to ask for help. You are not alone. 💚
