SPCA of Hancock County The SPCA of Hancock County is entirely community-funded - our animals rely on generous donors like you! https://www.spcahancockcounty.org/donate/

Thank you for visiting the SPCA of Hancock County! Founded in 1911, the SPCA of Hancock County, Maine, is a life-saving organization committed to providing shelter and care for abandoned, stray and surrendered animals. Since opening the doors of our expanded facility in Trenton in October 2010, our organization has found homes for thousands of dogs and cats. We are also focused on community outrea

ch and education on proper and humane animal care. Due to the pandemic and concern for the safety of our staff and volunteers, all visits to the shelter are by appointment only. Please contact us to schedule an appointment to adopt, surrender a pet or stray animal, or with any other requests. We are accepting donations of pet food items, pet supplies, and anything you might find on our Amazon Wish List. These can be left at our front door or by the Volunteer Entrance. These entrances are regularly checked by staff for any dropped-off donations. If you're interested in volunteering with us, we would love to meet you. We have a great need for volunteers to help with general house-cleaning tasks around the shelter, help with animal care of dogs and/or cats, assist with groundskeeping and maintenance, perform public outreach at events, collecting bottles and redeemables from the vendors that donate to us, and so much more. If you would like to fundraise or donate to the SPCA, you can do so online or by contacting [email protected] to discuss ways to collaborate. Thank YOU for being the heroes to our animals. We could not do this life-saving work without the donations of time, money, and support that each of you give to us.

🌟 PET OF THE WEEK: Casserole 🌟

Say hello to Casserole, a sweet and spirited feline who's ready to find her forever home! Casserole recently arrived at the SPCA alongside her buddies, Koda and Olive. Koda has already found her forever home, but Olive and Casserole are still patiently waiting.

While this whole "indoor only" lifestyle is new to her, Casserole has discovered the joys of soft beds, cozy blankets, and an endless supply of tasty treats. She’s quickly become a big fan of lounging in sunbeams, watching the world go by from a sunny windowsill, and soaking up all the comfort that comes with being safe and loved inside.

Casserole is a social butterfly who enjoys spending time in the community cat room, where she can often be found playing with toys, mingling with other cats, and showing off her charming personality. She’s playful, affectionate, and always up for a little fun. If you're looking for a friendly, curious companion with a gentle heart and a playful streak, Casserole might just be the perfect match. She’s hoping to find a home where she can continue to blossom and share all the love she has to give.

Come meet Casserole at the SPCA today and see if she’s the missing piece to your family. She can’t wait to meet you, and she’s ready to make your house feel like a home!spcahancockcounty.org/adopt

XUBE. IS. HOME.

After 331 days at the SPCA-HC, several years in shelters before, and coming into our care emaciated and neglected - Xube. is. home. On Xube's last day of his Greatest Adventure with the Breath Photography, his perfect humans came along, and Xube immediately decided that they weren't returning home without him.

Not only do they have the experience and ideal situation for Xube, they have hearts of gold that saw him for the amazing, perfect, sweet baby he has always been.

Photos from Xube's Greatest Adventure will be coming, so prepare yourselves to enjoy his INCREDIBLE photos knowing that he is living the life he's always deserved!

We love you so much, Xubey 💙

HAPPIEST UPDATE: ALBERT HAS GONE TO HIS FOREVER HOME!!! ❤ Thank you again, Bayview Escapes Travel, LLC for sponsoring his adoption fee!

🌟 PET OF THE WEEK: Albert 🌟

**Adoption Fee is sponsored by the incredible Bayview Escapes Travel, LLC **

This community of animal lovers has made miracles happen lately - 6 of our longest stay residents were adopted in less than a week, thanks to you! Can you help us find Albert’s miracle?

Albert is back from decompressing in foster care and ready to find his forever home. Big Al needs consistency and quiet. He doesn’t want you to pet him or pick him up; he doesn’t even really want you to stand too close. He’s not mean, just terrified. Despite this, he needs to be an indoor-only cat and is not a barn cat. He is a slower-paced senior gentleman (approximately 7-8 years old) who would love a window to watch the outdoors from the safety of inside. Much like our other longest-staying residents that were adopted, he would be the most amazing cat for your cat(s) at home! He has met many in his time and seeks immediate comfort and companionship from them.

Albert needs a quiet, calm home where he is given the opportunity to simply live out his golden years on his terms - likely that means tucked away in a snuggly bed while you serve him extra stinky, fishy foods.

Big Al is neutered, up to date, and just had his yearly health exam. If you believe you could be Albert’s hero, fill out an adoption application here: https://www.spcahancockcounty.org/adopt

Sneak peek at day 4 of Xube’s Greatest Adventure with Dog Breath Photography!

There’s a reason this guy’s nickname is Scuba Steve… he was born for the water! He had the best time on an amazing local lobster boat, trying to catch minnows in a pond, and dropping his toys in the water for the humans to fetch.

Of COURSE our community is amazing and we want to give a special shoutout to Constance Millinor for coordinating the boat adventure portion of our day, and to Carrie Jones of Bar Harbor Story for meeting us to chat about this amazing opportunity!

We hope to see you at the Shelter Dog Photography Workshop this Wednesday from 7-9pm at the Ellsworth Public Library! Not only will you get to learn from the INCREDIBLE Kaylee Greer - you will also get a sneak peek at Xube’s photographs! We’re so excited 💙

Update on Yeti: This little sassafrass is feeling MUCH better and hasn't let the whole "found in the pouring rain, emaciated" thing put a hitch in her step! She immediately made herself the leader of her fellow foster kittens and has incited multiple snack-based riots. She can usually be found lying in the same bowl she's eating from, or standing on the tallest surface she can find to scream at everyone. Good girl, Yeti Spaghetti! 💙
