It’s not too often that I share my own face on our socials because, well, obviously we’re here for allll the puppy content. But hi - it’s Stephanie - the one behind the camera and the one (along with lots of help from my husband and littles) who is raising your forever companion. Just wanted to pop in and put a face with a name for those of you who haven’t met me! I’m a wife, a mom, a nurse, a student, and a Golden Retriever lover through and through. I’ve met so many wonderful people that I now consider friends and, of course, family through our program. I truly believe I have the best “job” on the planet!!

Our Winnie + Roman pups are beginning to transition into their new h*omes and this is always such a bittersweet time for me. Meet Muffin, now Rue, who was the first to leave on the road to Mobile, AL today. More updates to come. 🫶🏼

Wishing you all the happiest holiday season. ♥️🎄

Our little Pastries are turning six weeks old already - how is that even possible?! We have an exciting few weeks ahead of us including their first vet visit, introduction to crate training and being matched with their fo*rever fam*ilies. We have a few little gentle*men a•v•a•i•l•a•b•l•e 🫶🏼

Remember no one is arguing the need for sterilization, it's the surgical technique that should be reevaluated. Hysterectomy and vasectomy achieve the same goal but leave important hormones intact according to science.

"The association between gonadectomy and timing of gonadectomy, and the risk of canine cranial cruciate ligament disease: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Abstract
Objective - To determine if gonadectomy in dogs is associated with the risk of cranial cruciate ligament disease (CrCLD) and to quantify the magnitude of the association.

Study design - Systematic review and meta-analysis.

Sample population - Comparative studies with gonadectomized and entire dogs, with CrCLD as an outcome measure.

Methods - A systematic search of the primary and gray literature was performed. The effect size of the outcome measure was defined as the OR and 95% CI. Subgroup analysis was performed with s*x, breed, and age at gonadectomy. A pooled OR (95% CI) was generated from meta-analysis of relevant studies. Certainty in the body of evidence was rated with the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) framework.

Results - The literature search yielded 1398 results and 24 relevant studies were included for synthesis. Gonadectomized female (pooled OR = 2.293, 95% CI = 1.768–2.945) and male (pooled OR = 2.117, 95% CI = 1.665–2.691) dogs were both at increased odds of developing CrCLD in comparison with entire female and male dogs, respectively. Subgroup analysis showed that gonadectomy at 1 year or less was consistently associated with an increase in odds of developing CrCLD in both s*xes. Overall certainty in the evidence was rated as moderate. All included studies were observational and no controlled trials were available.

Conclusion - In data with moderate certainty, gonadectomy is associated with increased odds of developing CrCLD in both s*xes, particularly in dogs gonadectomized at 1 year of age or less.

Clinical significance - This study provides an estimate of the true effect size of gonadectomy on the odds of developing CrCLD, which may be useful for clinical decision making surrounding gonadectomy and the timing of gonadectomy."

Officially Introducing:

Ara + Roman: Chipmunks Litter ♥️🎄🐿️

11/26/24

Although I originally had a different theme picked out, this one was just MEANT to be! What are the odds of a litter of three boys right at Christmas time?!

These sweet little boys are a total dream! This was a long awaited pairing and although we had a small number of pups, they are already everything I dreamed they’d be and more. 🥰 The photos you see below are their one week photos. They are much chunkier and squishier now (can’t wait to share!!!), but I wanted to do a proper introduction from the start. They just turned three weeks old, are learning to play and find their way around the whelping box, have received their first dose of dewormer and their first nail trims, completed ENS and will start litter training and puppy mush this week. This is where the real fun starts!! Fun fact: weeks four to six are my absolute favorite stage of puppy raising. 😍🥹

Meet Theodore, Simon and Alvin. 💚💙♥️

These cute, fun, colorful holiday rawhides are terrible for your dog! Rawhides in general are a choking hazard and these holiday themed rawhides are filled with chemicals, sugar, and small pieces that are a choking hazard. They are bleached and glued with artificial colors and artificial flavors added.

There are lots of rawhide alternatives and lots of other healthier and high quality treats for your pup to enjoy!

Officially Introducing:

Winnie + Roman: Pastries Litter 🥐🤍

Thirteen thriving and healthy little babes! Our largest bunch to date. Momma Winnie is PHENOMENAL. She never ceases to amaze me. Pups are three weeks old and have had their first taste of puppy mush, completed sixteen days of ENS exercises, been given their first dose of preventative dewormer and we’ve clipped 234 little puppy nails so far. They are being exposed to new sights and sounds daily and are starting litter training. They are the sweetest little treats. 🫶🏼

Happy Thanksgiving from our little turkey butts to yours. 🍗We are forever grateful for our friends and family, the little moments, a happy home and life with dogs 🫶🏼

I want to take a moment to say just how thankful we are for the community we have built with our puppy families. Each time a puppy leaves our home, a little piece of my heart leaves with them. Our families are the reason that we do what we do. 🤎

I believe we are finished at 12 — 8M, 4F. Winnie was phenomenal. She has been out to potty, had a good, high protein, meal and is relaxing in a nice and tidied up whelping box with her babies! ☺️ All pups seem to be thriving at this time. We had some trouble getting a couple of pups to take their first breath (so terrifying when this happens 🥺) and with one pup stuck and needing assistance, but thank goodness all three are active, breathing normally and latching now! You never know what you may run into - especially with a larger litter. We are just so thankful that mom and babies are doing well. 🖤

Jokes on me. I just went to clean up and take a shower — came back to a 13th puppy! A little girl! Grand total (maybe) 8 boys, 5 girls.

Little loves will be here soon.. 🤎

Let’s play a little game! Guess how many puppies Winnie will deliver, boy to girl ratio, along with the date they will arrive!

Prayers for a safe and easy delivery for mom and babies are greatly appreciated! 🤎

I have owned mixed breeds, I have owned purebreds.

I have adopted from a shelter, I have paid top dollar from a breeder.

I have been heartbroken at seeing dogs who no one wants.

I have been elated when cuddling a whole litter of newborn pups.

The thing I have not done is bred a litter without a plan. I have not dropped a dog off at a shelter. I have not refused to take back a pup that I bred (and lets face it I have taken dogs that I haven’t bred) to rehome appropriately.

What am I trying to say here? Responsible breeders do not add to the flood of unwanted shelter dogs. Responsible breeders allow families and individuals to make a choice. They can choose a specific breed. They can choose a specific pedigree. They can choose to support an ethical breeder and get in line for a stable dog of working lines, show lines, companion lines, or anything else they choose.

Families can choose to avoid the unknown if they want and they are not contributing to the demise of the dogs in shelters.

What is contributing to the overflow of shelter animals is those who allow a breeding to occur
“just to see what happens.”
“Just because I want my dog to be a mom.”
“Just because it will be a cute mix.”

Those who do not responsibly ensure their dog is not bred or who choose to breed the latest “designer” mash-up are contributing.

Shelter dogs are not being euthanized because responsible breeders have a litter of pups. Adopt if you want to, Shop if you want to, but just know at the end of the day that those of us working hard at what we do will never let one of our dogs go to a shelter, they will be loved, rehomed if ever necessary, and loved some more.
