There are lots of dogs, cats, and rabbits waiting to go Home for the Pawlidays at our Troutdale shelter and in volunteer foster homes. In addition to license fees and the long term cost and commitment of adopting a pet, adoption fees are currently $25 for dogs and puppies, $15 for cats and kittens, and $5 for rabbits and small pets. Johnny is a 3-year-old Mastiff/Pitbull mix who's just a little shy at first. He might seem a bit unsure when you first meet him, but don't let that fool you! Once he gets to know you, this gentle giant transforms into a total lovebug. Johnny enjoys leisurely walks, cozy naps, and receiving all the affection you can give. He's looking for a patient and understanding family who will help him blossom into the confident companion he's meant to be. He has been around other dogs.

Happy Adoption Story: Cooper (formally Merlin)

"We adopted Cooper [in October 2024] and he is now fully integrated into his new life with us. His previous owners had surrendered him to the shelter and we are so thankful they did because he is a wonderful cat and a perfect addition to our family. He is sweet, playful, and affectionate. He chases and plays with our two younger cats and snuggles with our older cat. He happily runs around the house, making chirping noises and chasing cat toys. He loves to lay down and lounge next to us and be petted, constantly purring to show his happiness." -Melanie

Hi, I'm Galileo! I'm a 2.5-year-old playful pup looking for my new best friend. I'm an energetic guy who loves to be active and would thrive with an adventurous human. I enjoy exploring and playing, and I'm always up for a good time. I'll admit, I can be a bit of a goofball sometimes - I get excited easily and might jump up to say hello (I'm working on that!). I also have a playful mouth, but I'm learning to keep those teeth to myself. Because I'm so full of energy, I need a home with a fenced yard where I can run and burn off some steam.

While I haven't always had the best luck making doggy friends in the past, I might do well with another dog in my new home. We'd just need to have some slow and careful introductions to make sure we get along. I'm also working on my leash manners - sometimes I think it's a game of tug-of-war! With some patience and positive reinforcement, I know I can improve. My previous family mentioned that I may have some separation anxiety, but with a loving and understanding human, I'm sure I can overcome it! I really love getting pets, especially around my ears and haunches, so don't be shy about showing me some affection!

Happy Adoption Story: Beegee

"We adopted Beegee a little more than one year ago when she was 3 years old. She was named 'Baby' when we got her, which we quickly changed. We had been waiting for small dogs to show up on the shelter web site. When Beegee appeared with two other small dogs, all three surrendered by the same previous owners, we visited the shelter immediately and connected with Beegee. She is smart and affectionate, beyond what we might have imagined. Of the three small dogs we have owned separately over time, Beegee is the best, but probably we would have said that about the other two when they were still with us."

He's always eager to head out on a leash and enjoys discovering new sights and smells. While he's still learning to trust new people, he warms up quickly with a little patience and kindness. Jedrek enjoys gentle pets and will happily take treats from your hand. He's learning to be more comfortable with touch and is making great progress. Happy Adoption Story: Achilles Watch the moment Achilles is adopted on March 21, 2024- as MCAS staff say goodbye. "This dog was an absolute 💯 love bug and obviously a staff favorite! Until March 21, he had been at MCAS since June of 2023! He came in with his brother, Zeus, who was also just as big of a Teddy Bear as he was. Zeus was adopted shortly after his hold time was up and I'm sure Achilles would have been too if he had not injured himself! He tore a ligament in his knee and was not using the leg at all at first. MCAS sent him to a surgical specialist for a consultation. Much to our surprise, the surgeon said his injury may heal with strict rest and limiting his activity. Since then, our team at MCAS- especially our wonderful animal health department and the ACT 1 kennel staff- gave Achilles the extra attention needed everyday to follow doctor's orders and help him to heal! It was a long haul, but we didn't give up on him. And on March 21, he finally went to his new home with some wonderful people that are already sending us pictures!" -Yevette, MCAS
