Atkins Equestrian is moving to a facility equipped with an indoor arena! The current goal is to have lessons at the new facility up and running the first week of February! We are so excited to have an indoor arena to keep our program running smoothly in any weather! please message me to inquire about lesson availability!

I’m still rearranging all the schedules for September! This is an ever changing process so bear with me. I’m putting next week’s confirmed schedule into my calendar so check your emails for your invite to the lesson. I’m looking forward to some cooler temps this week!!!

If you have schedule conflicts for September and haven’t already let me know please let me know via text or email asap. If you have reached out with your schedule conflicts I’ll be reaching out with the possible re-scheduled lesson times that are available. I hope everyone had a great first week of school!

Atkin’s Equestrian welcomes Leon to the lesson program! Leon is a large pony who spends his summers helping kids learn to ride at summer camp and will be staying with us for the fall, winter and spring this year. We are thrilled to have him and many thanks to Sarah Seaward for trusting us with this sweet boy!

Welcome to Atkins Equestrian LLC. We are a small riding facility specializing in huntseat, jumper and dressage instruction focused on horsemanship, fitness, & technique. Atkins Equestrian strives to teach functional equitation skills that apply to many disciplines and create safe and effective riders who are well rounded in their horsemanship skills both in and out of the saddle.

Who’s who alert!!! Say hi to Luci! Luci works at the farm once a week but she is also our resident body work expert! She has a soft and gentle presence with all our horses and a sensitive soul that helps her connect with the horses as she works over their bodies to release their physical and mental stresses. Watching the magic that happens when she does her body work sessions is really worth it if you are ever given the chance to witness.

Who’s who alert! Meet BRILEY! BRILEY works at the farm and is also a dedicated student. Briley is always bringing a positive and joyful energy into every situation. She is ADORED by the younger kids and happily accepts their requests to run around the ring with them on foot.. even in the rain 🙂 Briley is constantly learning and observing and has grown into a reliable horsewomen.

Bill Steinkraus told THM in 1983: “I cannot stress too much the vital importance of restoring all aids to their normal state as soon as the horse has complied with them. Once the horse has gone forward, ease up on your driving aids; once it has shortened, open your fingers again enough to reward. It is very common to see exactly the opposite: the rider gets the horse to come back once, but never releases his closed fingers again, and spends the rest of the hour hanging in the horse’s mouth, or, having gotten the horse to go forward, spends the rest of the day with his legs stuck halfway through the horse. The reason you want your aids to be effective is so that you can teach the horse to respond to them more and more sensitively – and so that you can use them less and less."

Who’s who!! Meet Sophia! (and Abbie) I’ve said a time or two “Sophia is my right hand man!” And I mean it. When it comes to making sure the farm is taken care of, the horses have what they need, and the experience and know how to handle making care decisions on her own, Sophia is capable far beyond her years! She’s more responsible, resourceful, and reliable than most adults I know. She has a strong drive to learn and grow as a horsewoman and is a talented photographer to boot! (although, it’s hard to get her to take a picture from the other side of the camera lol!) We just adore having her around and look forward to helping her reach her goals and continue her education both in and out of the saddle!
