We have so much to be thankful for! In addition to D&D Lawn Care INC taking care of our driveway and parking lot, we had 22 animals go into foster over the past couple of days (amazing effort from our fosters & foster coordinators💙), and we have dedicated staff who are taking care of our shelter dogs & cats today despite the weather.

It takes many hands to care for so many paws🐾! We are thankful for each and every person who steps up to make a caring difference. 💗

In the New Year Partners for Pets continues to be committed to rescuing injured and neglected animals throughout the Metro St.Louis area. Yesterday alone we took in 14 homeless pets as the majority were being kept outside and would likely perish in the extreme cold.

Hard to find Pappy Old Rip Van Winkle, is the flagship brand of bourbon whiskey owned by the "Old Rip Van Winkle Distillery" company. It is distilled and bottled by the Sazerac Company at its Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky

This bourbon whiskey is bottled at nearly barrel proof. Just a splash of Kentucky limestone water is added after a decade of aging. Rich, yet smooth, this bourbon takes a back seat to none.

We want to share our latest medical case because it’s only going to get colder 🥶. Meet Pillsbury Doughboy👋🏼. He was brought to us today after being pulled from a car engine. He’s beat up pretty good with multiple injuries to his body, bruising, some sliced off ear tips, and a very swollen leg (thankfully not broken). Of course he got into the engine because he was too cold. In winter, please remember to bang on your hood a few times to give kitties the chance to get out before you start the engine.

There have been multiple warnings about the cold weather that’s approaching. In addition to banging on your car hood, here are some more suggestions…

Ideally pets should be inside if it’s below 45 degrees. It's a common belief that dogs and cats are more resistant to cold weather than people because of their fur, but it's untrue. Like people, cats and dogs are susceptible to frostbite and hypothermia. Longer-haired and thick-coated dog breeds, such as huskies and other dogs bred for colder climates, are more tolerant of cold weather; but no pet should be left outside for long periods, especially once temps reach freezing.

Once nighttime temps dip below 45 degrees, your outdoor pets should have shelter. Provide them with a dry, draft-free shelter that is large enough to allow them to sit and lie down comfortably but small enough to conserve body heat. Straw, not hay, is a good insulator and stays drier. Make sure you check on your straw regularly to keep insulation full and dry.

We hope everyone will be safe and warm over the next several days. As for our Pillsbury Doughboy, he’s made it to a much cozier place - thank goodness and thank YOU for supporting our lifesaving mission here at Partners for Pets!
