N.B.S Animal Rescue is a 501(c)(3) Exempt, Non-Profit animal rescue that focuses 100% of our energy, time, money, and effort on providing the best care, training, and home environment for the dogs in our care as we work diligently towards finding loving adoptive homes for them. Animal Rescue WILL Make a Positive Impact! We know we can't do everything, but we know we can do something to help save a

n animal in need. With your help and support, N.B.S. Animal Rescue will continue to do what we can to make a difference in the lives of homeless, abandoned, abused, neglected, and forgotten animals in need. We focus our rescue efforts on pulling dogs from kill shelters in Michigan. We hope to help reduce the euthanasia rates in Michigan by approaching rescue from this angle. We ask you to please email us with any dogs that are currently in need as opposed to posting on our Facebook Wall. There are many, many animals in need everyday and we want our supporters to be able to follow our daily activities simply and easily.

Merry Christmas to all our supporters, adopters and friends!

This giving Tuesday and holiday season is especially important for our small rescue. Most of the dogs we take in are seniors or medical cases, and almost all need dentals and bloodwork. Our adoption fees don't come close to covering these additional expenses, let alone the standard vetting and care that we put into each dog to get it ready for it's furever home. If you could spare a few dollars and a share, we would surely appreciate it! www.nbsar.org/donate

* Mimsy Update *

With a broken heart, I wanted to share an update that we sadly had to make an emergent decision to help sweet Mimsy cross over the Rainbow Bridge.

After a re-check appointment to check her kidney and liver values revealed good news in that her values were all trending in the right direction and she had gained weight, we celebrated with snuggles on the couch and chicken (her favorite!). While her bloodwork was positive, the vet was cautious in reminding us that all we can do at this point was to love her, feed her, help manage her conditions the best way possible, and be vigilant for any signs of distress for the remaining time she had left with us. She snuggled next to me on the couch curled up in a fuzzy blanket while I worked on my laptop, happy to snooze next to me for a few hours.

After waking up to go potty outside, she came back inside coughing and was unable to catch her breath. Sadly, we are all too familiar with the signs of congestive heart failure and it was clear our sweet girl was struggling so we immediately jumped in the car and headed to Wilson's Vet Hospital. Wilson's triaged her and agreed that her heart murmur was more significant than before and agreed that the most compassionate thing we could do was to help end our sweet girls suffering. So, we held her close in our arms, gently pet her soft little head, whispered our apologies that there wasn't more we could do to help her, and told her we loved her as she peacefully crossed over the Rainbow bridge.

I wanted to send a huge thank you to our shelter partners at DACC who allowed us to love this little girl, and all of our supporters who sent her well wishes, kept her in your prayers, and donated towards her veterinary hospitalization costs. We appreciate you!

Run free sweet girl.

We could really use our supporters help with some positive thoughts, prayers, shares, and donations for Mimsy. When one of our volunteers saw her at Detroit animal care and control, she fell instantly in love with her sweet face and kind eyes and knew that we were meant to give this sweet lady a chance at happiness. We knew she was matted, underweight, and in rough condition with a heart murmur. We did not suspect that we would land at the emergency vet 2 days after having blood work done and getting her on antibiotics. It turns out, she has congestive heart failure, combined with an infection, and elevated kidney and liver values. She spent 4 nights at the emergency vet and was stable enough to come home, but still has a guarded prognosis. We think she deserves the best chance though, and are trying to give that to this sweet girl.

Donations towards her care can be made on our website at nbsar.org

Please help us find the perfect home for Simon! He came to us as a very neglected, underweight, and matted mess of a Maltese from Detroit Animal Care and Control, where he was taken as a "stray" off the street. He is a senior fella, so on top of being completely shaved, he needed to be neutered, treated for upper respiratory, and get a full dental once coming into our care. Poor Simon lost pretty much all of his teeth from not being kept up wherever he was previously. But, that doesn't stop him. This little man is an eating machine! To say he is food motivated is almost an understatement. He's more of a people dog than a dog dog. He loves to snuggle and bonds with his people. He is mostly potty trained if taken out on a normal schedule (he goes outside when you take him out, but will have accidents if left more than 4-5 hours). He is only 6-7lbs, so his lil bladder isn't very big :-) He is being fostered with other dogs, but he'd prefer to be on his own. He tries to sass new dogs coming into his space, but he is easily corrected and ignores them after a proper introduction as long as they don't pester him. He would really love a home with someone that has plenty of time and love to give him. We estimate him at 10 years, and he has plenty of s***k left, and even more love for his chosen human.

He does have an upcoming surgery next week to try to repair a fistula that opened up after his dental extractions, but we are taking applications now. He is a great companion dog. Please give him a share.

We have some fantastic news to share! Lulu's life has been furever upgraded! She has gone from being found abandoned in a crate in River Rouge to being spoiled and gaining a big sister, all the toys she could ever want, a wardrobe she is not sure she wants, and starbucks pup cups! She has really come out of her shell and is making the most of her new life. Her adopter is no stranger to NBS, as big sister "Maggie" is an NBS alumni from many years prior. What can we say, her Mom loves the adorable dogs with the underbites!

Oh, and if you want to see a real surprise, take a look at her DNA test. We never would have guessed at these results.

We just love receiving updates from our world traveling dogs! This one is extra special, since his adoption was 12 years ago.

Good morning NBS rescue team,

I hope you are all doing well?
Here in Belgium, we are doing fine. Charlie (cavalier king Charlie’s, adopted in 2012) just turned 13 and is still doing well and feeling happy. His hearing is almost completely gone, but he understands sign language quite well and he is on arthritis medication, so he can still enjoy his (very slow) walks and sniffs. I’m so happy that he is still with us!

Thanks for the invite for the BBQ, sorry I missed it. I will be visiting Plymouth, MI, in September. Looking forward to being back for a week!

Thanks you for your email and for letting me adopt Charlie.

Kind regards,
Désirée

Happy updates are our favorite emails to receive. We just got this one from 2 time NBS adopters.

NBS,

I wanted to share a pupdate regarding our two wonderful NBS alumni, Leo (previously Sully) and Max the blind wonder pup.

Leo has now been with us for 8 years, his gotcha date passing just recently this July. He came to us scared of his own shadow but he has transformed into a wonderful confident goofy dog, full of personality. He is one of the friendliest dogs I've ever had the pleasure to know, friend to all humans and animals.

Max the blind wonder pup had just recently lost his eyes prior to our adoption of him 5 years ago but most days I forget that he's blind because of how well he's adapted. He's such an easy going fella, so trusting of his humans and pack members. He wanders the house and yard observed but unassisted and knows to ask for assistance when needed. He navigates stairs and jumps onto and off furniture by himself, he bounces off walls and barriers without issue and keeps on his merry way. His nose is so fine tuned that he finds all sorts of things in the yard to eat or p*e on. He's a senior now and naps more than he used to but he's the happiest member of the pack and participates in all activities.

Thank-you to NBS and all its volunteers for all the wonderful work you do for the animals and thank-you for 8 and 5 years of fun and joy.

Thanks,

Mike

Happy 4th of July to all of our supporters and followers. We hope that everyone celebrates safely today! In addition to human safety, it is extra important to think about dog safety today. More dogs go missing on this day than any other day of the year. Here are some tips from our friends and Dog Aide and K9 Stray Rescue League to keep your pets safe today, and for the rest of the week.

If you do find a missing dog, or your dog goes missing, please take these steps:
1) Call and report it to your 2 most local police departments/animal control. Dogs can run for miles in a short time when scared.
2) Post to your local Nextdoor and Ring neighborhood groups
3) Post on For the Love of Louie *Michigan Lost Pet Lookers*
4) Make sure to include contact information with a current email and phone number that will be on you.
5) Have the dog checked for a microchip with your local vet or rescue. If it's your dog missing and is chipped, report it to the microchip company
