It’s scorching out this week! 🥵 Let’s make sure our furry friends stay cool and comfortable.
🌡️🥵🌡️Even the most well meaning owners can take dangerous risks in this weather.
If in doubt, don't go out.
Heatstroke kills your pets, and quickly.
How to prevent heatstroke:
🌬️Keep pets in the shade and cooler temperatures
🌬️Constant access to plenty of fresh cool water
🌬️Never have them in hot cars
🌬️ Exercise and walks at dawn or dusk if temperatures are suitable
🌬️Check substrate temperatures with the back of your hand before exercise - if it's hot for you, it's too hot for them
Do you know what the signs of heatstroke in your pets are?
🌡️Heavy panting and difficulty breathing
🌡️ Excessively drooling
🌡️Appears lethargic, drowsy or uncoordinated
🌡️Collapsed or vomiting
Would you know what to do?
✅Move to a cooler area
✅Immediately pour as cold as possible water over their body
❌Wet towels placed over the pet can worsen the condition, trapping heat.
✅In a true emergency water immersion or pouring water with air movement
✅Allow to drink small amounts of cool water
✅Continue to pour cool water over until their breathing starts to settle, but not too much that they start shivering
✅Pets that have lost consciousness will stop panting, despite still having a very high temperature, these pets require urgent aggressive cooling as a priority.
❌Try to avoid pouring water on or near your pets head, as there is a risk of them inhaling water which could lead to drowning, especially for flat-faced and unconscious pets
✅Once the pet is cool, take them to the nearest vet as a matter of urgency.

Shomo is sporting the Opawz semi-permanent color “Hawaii blue” and a hint of “Kelly green” to make this super pretty teal that was dialed back with a 1:1 ratio of dilution cream.
Where does the time go 🥹 our little miss is all grown up! Thank you for bringing us the tiny little cupcakes to celebrate miss saffron trying the big number 2 today! 💕 🎂
Teddy’s very first big boy haircut, from hairy to handsome.
He did SO good for his first professional groom. We love love LOVE when pet parents put in the work at home by introducing their puppies to bathing, the dryer and brushing well before their first visit with us. Teddy’s mama set him up for a successful relationship with his groomer and we ❤️ LOVE ❤️ her for that!
Bennie. We treasure this little bundle of perfection.
Oh Jamie, you clean up so nice! 🥰
Photo dump time! 🐶 📸
Just a few boopable snoots! 🐶
Max: hates the dryer but still 10/10 cute as heck 💕🤩
Queenie has been at Trumbull Animal Group (TAG) for approximately 2 years! She arrived with puppies who all found loving homes instantly with no interest in poor mama. Someone please be the lucky home for Queenie! ☘️ 🌈
A good friend is like a four-leaf clover: Hard to find and lucky to have!
You'd be so lucky to have Queenie as your friend. She's been waiting and waiting, but haven't found her four-leaf clover yet. She'd be loyal and loving. She's a shy girl who needs a patient lucky charm who will win her heart forever 💚
Charlie came in for a nail trim and a birthday photo yesterday. Happy birthday young man! 🎂 🥳 🎁
The two best friends there ever were!
It may have been grey, snowy and dreary outside today but INSIDE we made our own blue skies with some happy babies and cheerful smiles.

Hands down, literally the BEST doggie costume we have seen in a long time. Saffron is a “teacup” yorkie. Get it? Get IT?! 🥹😭😂 Hats off to Saffron’s mama for A) stopping in and sharing this amazingness with us and B) for the shear craftmanship involved! #yorkie #trumbullct #cutedog #howloween2023
Not to be dramatic- but we’ve had a very mild winter folks. This means ticks and fleas will most likely be prolific this year, we’ve had more than our fair share of these creepy crawlies that have been hand picked off clients during their groom in the past few weeks. Tick borne illness is no picnic for your furry friends- If you ran out, give Trumbull Animal Hospital a call and replenish your preventatives! *Actual footage of a tick that was found during a groom recently. We were able to remove it intact, you can even see the mouth parts where it latches onto the skin to feed. Yuck! Add this to one more good reason to brush your hairy dogs frequently!
Please join us in wishing a belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our beloved baby groomer Nikki. Her favorite thing is adding a 🌈 splash 🌈 of color to your pups, so we scheduled this lovely girl to have a rainbow tail on her special day recently. Check out the paper towel throne for pickle’s tush so she could sit in luxury while Nikki worked on her. It’s safe to say she was comfortable, she kept falling asleep on the table 🤫😅
Anxious and shy dogs are nothing new for us. Cody came in for his first bath today and we recognized that getting his nails trimmed was a huge trigger. After some desensitization training to having his feet touched, we realized very quickly that we created a monster. Cody now waves for cookies. 😂 So no, we may not have been able to trim this sweet man’s nails today, but earning his trust was totally worth it. We hope to see you soon sir, thank you for the laughs today! We’ll work on trimming your nails again next time.
Gutted, crushed, heartbroken. We lost our beautiful Martha aka “Matha Stinky Pants” today. We love you very much honey.
Fun fact: when we schedule your pup for a haircut, (especially their first and second appointments), we strive to schedule them with a “haircut buddy”. A first time puppy appointment takes anywhere from 2-3 hours on average. This is why! Frequent breaks to decompress, slow introduction to sights, sounds and smells associated with being groomed and having a well socialized dog to take their mind off of things are very important for building a lifetime relationship! Bringing your puppies favorite toy and some high value treats also go a long way towards building a positive association with something that could be very scary! This clip is also an excellent example of what healthy playtime looks like between two dogs. There is lots of role reversal where they take turns chasing, lying down, shaking and big round floppy tail wags. An excellent start to having a well rounded, happy, healthy socialized and groomed dog!
Happy Friday folks! Enjoy some puppy socialization and decompression to help you get through your day and into a nice weekend.
How adorable is booms when she sees her harness being taken off the hook? Someone LOVES going on a W-A-L-K.
An excellent visual demonstration on the importance of regular nail trims and nail maitanence! We accept walk-ins for nail trims between grooming appointments, just give us a call and we will be happy to fit you in! 203-268-0257
We get asked frequently how to brush curly and long-coated dogs. This is an EXCELLENT tutorial on how to line-brush your doodle (and any other long haired dogs for that matter) And yes! If you want a long beautiful coat like this dog, take the time to bond with your pup and brush them every day! She’s not kidding, long coats require proper daily brushing.
