You go ladies!!

Two women — one 85 years old and the other 61 — were arrested, tried, convicted, and sentenced to jail in Alabama. Their crime? Compassion. They were found guilty of “committing misdemeanors in their efforts to feed and trap stray cats.”

Their attorney maintained that “the arrests are baseless and that the women were performing a service by working to spay or neuter the animals and prevent the stray cat population from growing.” They appealed and won because it is not illegal to feed cats on public property.

Now the women have filed a civil rights lawsuit against the city, the mayor, the police chief and his assistant chief, and the three officers involved.

WE GOT HIM! The fabulous Tammy and Shame Hammac offered to check the trap for us this evening and SUCCESS! They
brought the cat to us and he will go to Landrum Vet on Monday. We are so relieved that he is safe. Thank you, Tammy and Shane! Thank you Officer Raines! It takes a village!

According to the Humane Society of the United States, only about 2% of community cats in the US are spayed or neutered and these unsterilized cats account for about 80% of kittens born each year, making them the biggest source of cat overpopulation in the United States.

These numbers should be an eye opener for everyone! Imagine if more people poured their energy, effort, resources and donations into Trap-Neuter-Return to help stop the breeding cycle! More spays and neuters means less animals entering the shelter to begin with. By helping with TNR, you are helping the shelters also, by assisting at the root of the problem!

Declawing should be banned!

You can see here, cats walk on their toes. When a cat is declawed it’s an amputation to the first joint. Basically the toes are amputated. This changes the way a cat walks and over time causes arthritis to multiple areas of the cats body. Declawed cats often avoid the cat box because of pain in the feet and arthritis in the body….. Please do not declaw your cat 🐾

There are valid reasons for having ‘community cats’ in neighborhoods and this program is a humane way to keep the feral cat population limited in size.

It is her home and she is happy to be back. This pretty girl has resulted in 11 total cats and kits. She is spayed now but there are a whole lot more there that need our help now. Please be proactive if you are feeding strays. We LOVE cats but we really need to help them by making sure they are spayed or neutered. It is free all around our area.
