Our favorite little guy Cream Soda went to the animal eye doctor today!

He’s been scanning constantly and with no E Cuniculi, we wanted to make sure his eyes were ok.

They looked perfect to the optho which means he likely has a neurological issue that needs to be dealt with. Unfortunately in our experience this usually will end up being a permanent issue for the rabbit.

Cream soda is feeling a lot happier and healthier and more active this week, however. We hope he continues to look up.

We are going to be looking for a special medical foster for him at this point to help continue to do his oral mite meds for the next 8 weeks and watch over him.

UPDATES from yesterday and today.

A baby girl named Layla (white and grey ears) was dropped off after she was found outside in Beaverton. She is a young girl only a few months old and looks like she will get big. She’s settling in nicely.

Pom Pom met a bunny named Mulberry yesterday and decided to move in today! Bunny love can be fast so we hope he stays behaved 💕🐰

Mr Maple and his orange cuteness was scheduled to be neutered next Thursday with his naughty brother, Alder 🙈💕

This sweet girl is Moo FKA Allegra.

Moo was fostered to be adopted for awhile and was bonded until something happened that broke their bond.

She has always been a nervous girl so there was no going back for her.

She was born in the rescue in 2021 and we hate to see her back here.

Moo is a quiet lady, and extremely clean. She doesn’t love company and may do well with another bunny or may not.

She would likely do best in a quiet home with her own room/secluded area. She does ok with cats but can spook from dogs if they are very rowdy.

Moo loves her castles and is very curious when she feels safe. Someone needs to give this sweet girl another chance🐰💕

Treefrog quick update-

Thanks for your overwhelming support for our sweet little man. So many well wishes and donations have come his way !

Tree frog continues to be unbalanced particularly on the left side of his body but it gaining strength and has a HUGE appetite.

Newest intake-😭

At 7 am yesterday we got a text from the woman who surrendered Simon to us saying that another bunny was in need from her group of bunnies in the yard.

This was really sad for us for two reasons, one that this bunny needed help… and her texting me effectively meant that animal control NEVER followed up on our report.

We are grateful to have him.

He had maggots crawling in his scent glands and can’t walk properly due to nerve damage, likely from a severe ear infection. He has dental issues and is skin and bones.

We offered him critical care and OMG does he have an appetite. He literally gobbles it up.

He was seen by Dr Cropski and got a boatload of medical treatments and diagnostics done for him.

We named him Treefrog, but he’s mostly been called Froggy so far.

This sweet boy has such a journey ahead of him. It would mean the world to us for everyone to share and please donate to him.

This is why rabbits need to be fixed (partly so they don’t attack each other and cause horrible wounds like this), and why they shouldn’t live outside.

It’s the end of the month! Our first month in our new commercial space has been amazing.

Lots of big expenses are upcoming including:

-2800 dollar rent
- 430 dollar electric bill (because apparently Portland charges 300 dollars to move the account into a new name?:()
-1,000 dollar outstanding veterinary bill

These are just the big ones for us but it’s important to be transparent about the costs associated with this rescue. There is a lot of hard work by a lot of people that goes into running Avalon Microsanctuary, and we of course do have costs that are less glamorous, but super important to make sure the bunnies have a clean comfortable space to stay in, and having the security that buns will always have a place to go.

Avalon has been able to say yes so much more because of this space, to helping bunnies in need. All of the new babies we took in to bottle feed are also doing great!

A happy ending today, sweet Flip went home with to be fostered to be adopted if he bonds with her sweet big marshmallow bun, Maisel.💕😭😭

We will miss him so much but he is already such a happy camper with her, taking his first nap with his favorite dolly in her house already.

Bonding buns is a tricky feat, so he is in his own exercise pen in Maisels room for a few days and then they will have more dates ❤️😊

We’ve truly been blessed today to be able to help 5 2 week old baby bunnies.

Their mom was recently dumped in Keizer OR and the babies were found nearby. The mom was fatally hit by a car, and the entire scene suggested that she and her poor babies had been abandoned roadside.

This is all too common, and needs to stop. Rabbits do not survive well outside, and they shouldn’t have to.

These babies could still have a mom.

They hadn’t eaten since Saturday besides lettuce and were extremely dehydrated when we got them in.

All of them are super feisty, and it took me over an hour to feed them all.

The milk temperature and the mixture of the milk must be perfect for a baby. They are so sensitive.

They are already nibbling hay too, which is amazing.

I hope they continue to fight like they are.

SEEKING FOSTER/ not in sanctuary custody yet. Fosters will be provided with a complete setup from us and medical care will be covered

“This sweet rabbit was in my front yard on the evening of Saturday, June 14. When I went on the community page to try to find its owner, I saw that my neighbors had been posting all day that he was hopping around the neighborhood. I caught him and posted on Facebook. I also made signs that I put up in the community. No one has claimed it, and I'm guessing someone decided they didn't want it anymore and just let it out. It is very gentle and will eat from your hand. It also loves to be petted. I wish I could keep it, but my landlord will not allow it. “
