My parents' 13yr old dog Wally was worse yesterday than he'd ever been. He's had GOLLP for the last year or so and we were watching him closely, but he still enjoyed his usual things - eating, going for walks (albeit short one), nibbling Moe the cat, always cheerful and had a lot of heart. But yesterday was different, something else was wrong, it was time to say goodbye. And I'm glad I was the one to help him pass.

He was a funny dog, eternally youthful. He was adopted by his first owner out of a box in from of Walmart. A cute little black puppy with big floppy ears. Lab mix? Anyway, he was destroying the landscaping so they rehomed him, which my parents have always loved big black dogs. He came home and gave poor Bruno fits grabbing his tail and pulling on it. He loved to chew holes in his stuffies and blankets. He would char a ball, but wouldn't give it back to you, a terrible retreiver. He keep getting bigger and bigger. We started to think great dane mix. His genetic panel said half weimaraner, half beagle! He topped out at 95lbs. He loved everyone, every dog, every cat. He just wanted to be friends. He was such a nice dog. He loved a wonderful life out on my parents 20 acres. He's at peace now, saying hi to Bruno, running on grassy fields. See you later Wally. 💕

WSU is the veterinary school I graduated from. They have an excellent program and an equally excellent oncology service.

😘🐶🐱Today is , and WSU’s veterinary oncologists are asking for your support for the gift that truly keeps on giving – the most up-to-date cancer treatment technology. A very generous alumnus has agreed to donate $3,000 toward WSU’s oncology service under one condition – they want to see your animals! If we can get 30 people to post photos of their pet in the comments today, they’ve agreed to make the donation to new radiation equipment. So, support cancer care at WSU and post your pet already!

Interesting idea. My 16 yr old calico cat C.C. recently became ill and I eagerly spent money trying to get a diagnosis as fast as possible. Fortunately she appears to be responding to treatment, but if she had been diagnosed with something terminal the costs likely would have been similar.
