Just a few days after Kajla, Bator also got his mail from AKC: he successfully completed the requirements for the Agility Course Test 1. He is now officially CH Tappancs Bator BN RA CGC ATT ACT1!

We call this wooden box the "creeper box". It has small openings on the sides, so the puppies can go inside, but our older dogs can't get in. There is a bowl of dry puppy food inside the box, and the puppies can creep in for a quick snack when they are hungry

One of the most important skills a puppy has to learn is "come when called". For hunting dogs, like vizslas, that skill is even more important, as they can be out of earshot while hunting. We introduce the whistle (that can be heard from greater distance than the human voice) as soon as the puppies start eating solid food. These puppies are only 5.5 weeks old, but they already know that the sound of the whistle means "food is coming", so better to hurry!

Today we started the weaning process with our "special" formula: 1/3 part baby cereal, 1/3 part cooked ground beef, 1/3 part cottage cheese, mixed with warm goat milk to a very liquidy consistency. I guess only half of it ended up in their little tummies, the other half on their paws and furs, from where Amelia happily licked it off.

Although most of our attention and time right now is for the puppies, we are not completely neglecting our older doggies...

Although most of our attention and time right now is for the puppies, we are not completely neglecting our older doggies. During the weekend Kajla and I went to the scent work trial organized by the Sonoran Desert Scentwork Club. Both days she qualified at the "Interior" element, finishing her Novice Interior title and also her overall Novice title. On Sunday she qualified and placed first at the "Handler Discrimination" element, by finding my sock hidden in a box in 7.66 sec. Now we just need to train for the Advanced level...

Today we added a new item to the lunch menu: warm goat milk. They all liked it and even Amelia momma got a taste of it by licking off the "residue" from their feet and fur 😊.

The puppies are doing something new every day! They started using the p*e pad in front of the whelping box and keeping the sleeping area in the back clean. They are also moving much better and started to interact with each other. Today's new items in the box are two crinkle toys.

Nursing 10 puppies is not an easy task for Amelia, so today we started introducing warm goat milk to the pups. The table manner is not perfect, but it's not a concern at this moment 😊

The puppies got a home upgrade! Now, that their eyes are open, we moved them from the protected and quiet place from under my desk to the family room, where they can be part of the everyday life. Within a few days they will be strong enough to climb from their sleeping area to the extension. During the night they still have a warmer spot under the IR lamp if they are cold.

When the puppies are 3 days old, we start the Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) and the Early Scent Introduction (ESI) programs. They are only 4 days old, blind, can't hear yet, and can barely move, but they are reacting to the smell. Today was the second day of ESI and the scent was orange.

Hello World! Tappancs Vizslas is happy to announce the arrival of the "E" litter (CH Tappancs Bator BN, RA, CGC, ATT, NAVHDA NA Prize III x Tappancs Amelia BN, RA, JH, SCN, SBN, CGCA, NAVHDA NA Prize I). The puppies, 5 boys and 5 girls, were born yesterday, weighing between 10 and 13 oz.
