Why do cats hide in car engines?
Cats and kittens that are outside will search for a shelter that is warm and dark when it's cold. They can find themselves under the hood or on top of a tire, especially on vehicles that are still warm from running.

It's always a good idea to check underneath your car to see if cats are hiding. You can slam the car door, knock on the hood, or honk your horn before starting your car to help wake up any sleeping cats under or in your engine.
