Have you ever felt like you're running in circles, pushing harder and harder, only to end up exactly where you started? Whether it's your career, relationships, personal growth, or life purpose - sometimes it feels like the harder we try, the more stuck we become and the less progress we make.
I've been there. I've spent countless hours trying to "fix"my life and business - I’ve had a lot more ‘failures’ than I have ‘successes’ in each of my three careers; modeling, business consulting and Equine Alchemy.
I’ve worked 10 hour days researching projects, spent months in business and technology classes.
I’ve spent thousands of dollars on learning—tens of thousands of dollars in fact.
I’ve wept from the effort, swore I would never work that hard again.
I’ve meditated, prayed, done yoga, breathwork, studied the texts of great beings, practiced detachment, spent time worshiping and appreciating nature. I’ve sat in silence, joined masterminds full of conversations and questions.
I’ve whined and complained about why I’m not getting what I deserve when everyone else is.
I’ve resolved myself to karma…(believing I must’ve done something really bad in past lives!).
I’ve given up, only to have to ‘restart’ the engine with less fuel and motivation than I’ve ever had before.
The result? More moments of feeling lost than found. More questions than answers. And each time, I'd tell myself, "If it's this hard, maybe I'm doing something wrong. Maybe I'm not meant to do this work and have what I want."
Since horses came back into my life 20 years ago I've also spent a lot of time in barns and fields, seeking wisdom from one of the most powerful and consistent sources I know; horses.
I've found that when I am fully present, really listen and pay attention...things can change.
I watch these magnificent creatures standing steadfast against wind, rain, and snow, knowing it will pass. I observe how they handle the constant parade of humans projecting their wishes and desires upon them. Through it all, they remain centered, unfazed.
Their secret? When given the chance, they simply return to grazing. No grudges. No existential crises. No worries about paying the bills and being accepted by everyone.
During one of these authentically present episodes, it became clear to me what I needed to practice... "Just be a horse."
When I embrace this wisdom, everything can shift. I can be calmer, clearer, more creative, and more disciplined. Best of all? My "don't give a damn barometer" has never been healthier.
The results in my work for others have been transformative.
On occassion, they are for me as well. Instead of chasing every strategy and second-guessing every decision in my life and business, I've learned to stand firm in my own wisdom, just like the horses.
