Did you know Brindle is the most common coat color for Greyhounds, with roughly 37% sporting these stripes, which consist of dark, tiger-like stripes over a base coat of fawn, red, or, rarely, blue. SA Greys sends its heartfelt condolences to Vanessa and Jeff on the loss of their beloved boy, Hawke.

In the short time Vanessa and Jeff had the privilege of calling him theirs, Hawke brought joy and love to everyone he met—especially through his soulful, chocolate-chippy eyes. As Vanessa so beautifully shared, Hawke was peace, loving light, and all that was good in the world.

While more pets get loose and lost on Fourth of July, around New Year’s Eve is a close second. ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT TO FIRST-TIME ADOPTERS

Here are some tips to keep them safe:

1) Be sure their GPS devices are charged and up to date, same with tag collars and microchip.
2) Keep pets indoors and distracted, away from flashing lights and loud noises.
3) Walk them early in the day.
4) Some neighborhoods are plagued by firecrackers and loud noises. When frightened, some greyhounds can easily jump over fences and walls. Put their leash on them when going with them into the backyard or onto the patio for a potty break even if that is not your regular m.o.
5) If you’re having a party and doors will be opening and closing, sequester your hound in a quiet room with a Kong or favorite toy.
6) Keep the dog door closed so you know your hound’s whereabouts at all times.
7) Consider a ThunderShirt (put this on a few times before NYE) or a calming wrap or talk to your vet about other suggestions.
