This week's shelter statistics reveal some interesting insights about our furry friends. While it's true that cats currently have a live release rate of 43%, compared to dogs at 74%, there are positive elements to consider.

First, let's look at the numbers. Last week, our shelter welcomed 126 animals, including 112 dogs and 14 cats. Since the number of cats is small, even a slight change in their adoption rates significantly affects the overall percentage. This makes statistics look worse than they might be for a larger group.

Last week, eight cats had to be euthanized because of medical/severe behavioral issues. While this might seem small, it greatly impacts the live release rate compared to only 14 cats taken in. Additionally, the shelter saw a 23% decrease in the cat population. This means fewer cats have been brought to the shelter than in the past. This could be due to community efforts to encourage spaying and neutering, or it might reflect changes in the animal population in our area. Fewer cats in the shelter also means fewer cats are available for adoption, making improving the live release rate difficult.

A Happy Tail for Bastian, formerly known as Emmett!

Bastian, formerly known as Emmett came to us at just 13 weeks old, and after spending 10 days at the shelter, he found his forever home!🏡❤️

His new owner says Bastian brings a wonderful sense of peace to their household. He's a quick learner and can't resist a tasty treat! Plus, he loves snuggling up on soft blankets and comfy couches.

Morty is a sweet 10-month-old kitty who has been through a lot after being injured in a car accident, but he's on the road to recovery! Our dedicated team has been working hard to heal his broken leg, and while he may have a permanent limp, it doesn't stop him from being a loving companion.

Morty is already litter-box trained and loves to snuggle on soft surfaces-whether that's a cozy bed or right in your arms! He's ready to find his forever home or a loving foster family!

Meet Alex, our featured Foster Friday pet!

Alex is a charming, medium-sized dog with a big dog personality! This playful pup adores stuffed animals and tennis balls. When he's not having fun, you can find him curled up watching TV or keeping an eye on the squirrels outside.

Alex thrives as the only pet in the household and is best suited for families with older children. He does have a few quirks - like his reluctance to walk through doorways and being a little protective over his food - so a slow introduction to other furry friends is recommended.

Alex is crate- and potty-trained at one year and nine months old, but he's still polishing up his manners.

On Wednesday, November 27, Tulsa Animal Services will close early at 4:30 p.m. for our special 'Barksgiving' event! This heartwarming celebration, made possible by Two Bens Barkery, will treat our shelter dogs to a festive Thanksgiving feast.

Our furry friends will enjoy a delightful turkey loaf, sweet potatoes, green beans, and a special pupcake!

Meet Slushy!!

This sweet girl is on the lookout for a loving forever home! Slushy is a timid one-year-old who may take a little time to warm up, but don't let that fool you - once she's comfortable, she'll shower you with kisses and find the coziest spots to snuggle!💘

Her favorite treat? Spray cheese! Just a heads up, she gets a little too excited and may end up with cheese all over her face! 🧀😄

Our fabulous trio - Mr. Hyde, Black Eyed Pea, and Sara- helped us with an exciting pumpkin enrichment experiment! While the cats had their mixed feelings about the pumpkins, our playful pups had a blast! 🐾Mr. Hyde was a tad anxious and unsure about the pumpkin vibes.
