🫢 When male cats can’t ti**le at all, it’s an urgent problem — not a “wait and see” moment.
Urinary obstruction in male cats happens when the urethra becomes blocked, preventing urine from passing. It’s painful, life-threatening, and needs immediate veterinary care. In this video, we’re relieving that obstruction and getting this boy comfortable again.

🐾 Signs to watch for: frequent trips to the box, straining, crying out, or only producing a few drops.
🐾 If you see these symptoms, head straight in — we’re open 7 days a week, walk-in only, because your pet’s comfort is urgent.

Placing an intravenous (IV) catheter in a small ruminant. 🐐

🫣 Sometimes boys need to ti**le like girls.

Perineal urethrostomy (PU) is a surgery performed in male cats to permanently widen the opening of the urethra. Cats are highly prone to the life threatening condition of urinary tract obstruction, and some cats experience this problem repeatedly. In those cases, a PU surgery can be life saving and prevent future ER visits.

It's a delicate procedure requiring excellent pain control and good follow-up care. Since we're open 7 days a week at STATVet, we're able to monitor these boys closely during their post-op recovery.

🩲 When pets eat naughty things, sometimes they can be removed without surgery. 🙌 Endoscopy involves feeding a camera into an animal's stomach to identify and remove foreign material. It's like a colonoscopy, but for the north end.

🐾 Endoscopy is less invasive, painless, less expensive than abdominal surgery, and available at both STATVet in Midtown and STATVet in South Tulsa.
