Per TAW Volunteer:
"Meadow(kennel 120/Animal id. A154846) came to the shelter as a stray. Weighing 44 lbs and estimated to be around 1 yr old, she is that black dog who lays quietly in the kennel not drawing attention to herself. Initially overwhelmed, getting outside, running, playing, learning and most important relaxing (decompressing), she blossomed. She is NOT at all a crazy teenage girl, just a girl who needs exercise and still a bit politely shy with strangers.
Meadow quickly learned "sit", "fetch", "sit"before & after fetching, could be led to "down", and is now learning to wait for a treat that is in an open palm until she hears"OK" (treats are palmed). She LOVES to fetch. Occasionally needs encouragement with a treat for some commands. She may not have had training. So, think of what she COULD learn in a home if this is what she has learned only being worked with 30 minutes/day at the shelter. She looks at me, listens and is so happy when she is praised and is a sponge for learning.
It is always an educated guess as to what breed a dog is. But the guestimate"" is that she may be a Belgian Sheepdog mix, (?) possibly a Groenendael mix (?). Meadow seems to have some of the traits: appearance; (black fur, upright triangular ears), personality; (playful, affectionate, sensitive, wants to please, bonds deeply with family),natural habits (herding), and most especially intelligence (easily trained, corrects easily and likes to learn). The first 2 days she tried to herd me in and out of the yard, LOL. That went away seemingly w/ getting outside, exercise and less stress. It is really hard on any shelter dog being cooped up 24/7.
Although Meadow enjoys activity she can settle as well. After a bit of fetching, she would put her head in my lap "soaking up" any affection (petting and messaging) given. And then she might even lay down beside me waiting for even more affection.
Ideally, Meadow needs an active family/or single person, experienced adopter(s) preferably familiar with herding breeds who can give her routine daily physical activities like: going on a run, playing ball, training as well as mental stimulation, like Hide and Seek (hide items) or puzzle toys, provide chewing toys, searching for scent games. There is so much fun to be had. She needs a yard as opposed to an apartment setting. Probably won't do well being left alone for long periods, nor left out in a yard. Meadow is a girl who wants and needs to be part of her family, and in return, she will give her heart and devotion.
Meadow is a loving, sweet, happy, eager girl, a smart girl who can easily pickup more good manners, and whatever you want her to learn..a true hidden gem. And for the right family Meadow can be a wonderful dog. She is best seen taken outside. As she was just spayed on Monday, April 24th, any strenuous activity needs to be limited for a few days.
