As many of you have heard the story of Teddy, it’s obvious that I work for a veterinary hospital. We have 6 dogs, they’ve all come from situations like Teddys!

This girl came through our hospital recently and I had to help her. I had to. I called in a favor and had a rescue come pick her up after her stray hold. She’s the SWEETEST thing and she needs help! Pebbles deserves a second chance…a happy ever after. I could post 400 similar situations everyday, but I try to save these kinds of posts to ones that have my heart.

If you can donate, amazing! If you can’t, Pebbles (and I) would appreciate a share!

Can you make some room in your heart and home for a shelter pup? If so, now’s the time! Without immediate dog adoptions, Tulsa Animal Welfare Pets is going to be facing some extremely tough decisions regarding euthanasia in the coming days.

Tulsa Animal Welfare (TAW) is majorly over capacity with TONS of great, highly adoptable dogs of all sizes. They have big dogs, small dogs, and so many puppies!

Adoptions are needed daily through Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at Tulsa Animal Welfare, 3031 N. Erie Ave., Tulsa.

In addition to waived adoption fees for approved adopters now through July 31, OAA is teaming up with TAW to offer a new pet starter pack, which includes free goodies like a free veterinary wellness exam with a nail trim, bed, pet food, treats and more.

Every dog is fixed, vaccinated, microchipped, and ready to snuggle.

Please stop by the city shelter, meet a new friend, and save a life!

☀️EXTREME HEAT ALERT☀️

Extreme high temperatures are expected this week in Oklahoma. Please make sure you take the proper precautions to protect pets and livestock.

▪️ Keep pets indoors and limit exercise.
▪️ Provide access to shade and fresh, clean, cool water when outside.
▪️ Watch for signs of heat stroke (heavy panting, racing heart, stumbling, weakness, vomiting, diarrhea, seizing, etc.) and take your pet to a veterinarian immediately if symptoms occur.
▪️ Keep pets off of hot sidewalks, driveways, and pavement.
▪️ Don't leave pets in a hot car for ANY amount of time.
▪️ If you're hot, they're hot. Keep them cool! Even short bursts of air-conditioning will help them stay comfortable.

If you see an animal in distress and suffering in the heat, report it to your local animal control or law enforcement agency. OAA and Unchain OK volunteers are responding to as many calls/texts/emails/messages as we can.

If you're in a position to offer help to a pet or pet owner, OAA can support you with supplies and advice. The more people helping, the better!

It's time to start thinking about July 4th and pets. ❤🤍💙 Fireworks (and the chaos of large gatherings) can be incredibly scary for pets.

More pets go missing around July 4th than any other time of the year, so it’s important to take precautions. Here are a few tips to keep your pets safe and secure while celebrating:

• Keep pets indoors away from loud noises and flashing lights.
• Make them a safe space with blankets, toys, and comfort items. Consider turning on a TV or radio to drown out the noise.
• Try calming aids, like chewy treats or bully sticks, a Thundershirt, or medications if needed. Check with your veterinarian NOW about prescriptions.
• Make sure doors and windows are secure and scared pets can’t bolt out an open door or window.
• Keep party food and alcohol out of pets’ reach. It’s tempting to give them bites of yummy things, but certain foods can be toxic and/or cause pancreatitis.
• Ensure microchips are up to date and pet ID tags are readable and securely fastened to a properly-fitted collar.
• Clean up firework debris and make sure gates are secure before letting pets into the yard.

Oklahoma Alliance for Animals is the reason Teddy got a second chance. They’re the reason lots of unwanted pets get second chances.

They offer so many programs, from offering dog food to their Unchain Oklahoma project. They will literally go and put a fence up so that the dog can be free from living on a chain. Watching those videos of those guys running free in their yards for the first time hits me right in the feels every time.

This is an awesome deal! A matched donation! Any amount you’re willing to donate, is doubled! Please consider giving the gift of second chances to other dogs just like Teddy!

We have some HUGE news ... from now until Saturday, December 4 every donation made to OAA will be matched dollar for dollar up to $50,000! You can DOUBLE your impact and your donation! Your $25 donation becomes $50 ... your $100 donation becomes $200 ...

We are so grateful for wonderful, generous OAA supporters who have come forward and are matching our Giving Tuesday donations up to $50,000! If we meet our goal, we will raise $100,000!

Starting tomorrow, we will be highlighting OAA's programs and resources for pets and pet parents. We're often asked what all OAA does, and we want to give you a glimpse into the far-reaching programs and services we offer the community.

We want you to know how much your support means to us and how your donations help so many pets in Tulsa and across Oklahoma.

Let's kick start this to raise $100,000 total! Please consider making a tax-deductible donation below, online at https://animalallianceok.networkforgood.com/projects/147754-giving-tuesday-2021, via PayPal at https://www.paypal.me/OKAnimalAlliance, or via Venmo .

Oklahoma Alliance for Animals works tirelessly for animals JUST LIKE TEDDY!

They were 100% responsible for his second chance at life.

In the winter, you will find their volunteers working tirelessly to make sure that pets in chains have dog houses with straw, fresh water and food! In the summer, they pass out dog pools and other ways to help give pets shade.

These folks are INCREDIBLE!

I know there are a lot of crazy things happening right now, but they could really use some community help so they can continue to keep up the good fight!

Our pet food pantry is nearly out of dry dog AND cat food again. 😭 Can you help us restock it?

Demand is higher now than ever before. We distribute more than 500-1,000 lbs. of dry dog and cat food through our office nearly every week. We are asked daily by frantic pet parents for help feeding their pets, and we don't want to have to turn anyone away.

Please consider donating to OAA's Pet Food Pantry! Here's how:

1. Purchase dry dog/cat food from our Amazon Wishlist. It will ship directly to our door. https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/UKBHP1ISBGH2?ref_=wl_share

2. Purchase dry dog/cat food from Chewy/Sam's/Walmart, and have it shipped to OAA, 5321 S. Sheridan Rd., Ste. 30, Tulsa, OK 74145

3. Purchase dry dog or cat food at your local store and deliver to our office during business hours (M-F, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.). Text (918) 917-9687 to arrange a drop off time.

4. Make a donation below or via www.animalallianceok.org/donate!

5. Consider a pet food donation drive at your place of business. Give us a call at our office (918) 742-3700 and we will help any way we can - even pick up!

Thank you for helping us keep bowls and bellies full! 🐾

Oklahoma Alliance for Animals works such wonders for pets (just like Teddy) AND their owners!

I suppose I should make this post, even though it breaks my heart to do so.

Tuesday night we had to say goodbye to our Teddy.

I’ll tell this story because y’all will want to know. So much of his life has been made public and there’s so many of y’all who
Follow and continue to follow weekly.

On Sunday he was slower than normal, but still acting fine, barking at the horses (his favorite thing), still eating and drinking, just taking more breaks. We chalked it up to the cold, arthritis, old dog stuff and I gave him some rimadyl to help with any discomfort he was having. Monday was an eh day, he slept most of the day but ate pretty good when we got home that evening. On Tuesday evening, we got home and he was in pretty rough shape. He didn’t want to go outside that morning, he drank some water, vomited and looked shocky so we took him in. He let Lance pick him up (which definitely wasn’t something he would typically allow), I knew then we were up for bad news.

We did all the things, bloodwork, x-ray, ultrasound, but they all told the same story. He was riddled with cancer from his liver to his spleen and his lungs. How he showed absolutely zero signs up to this point is beyond my comprehension. His body was shutting down, and fast. So, we made the only decision we could.

We were trying to remember how long we’ve had Teddy, I’m pretty sure it was towards the end of 17...but maybe the middle, it was hot. Honestly, he outlived our expectations when Lance and I brought him home. He became an important part of the Magnificent 7’s dynamic. He was the Colonel around the house, kept everyone lined out...especially the horses.

Before I switched jobs, someone once told me that they thought they remembered Teddy. They told me of a house where an older man lived and there were 2 dogs, Teddy and a black and white dog. They said they would see the dogs occasionally roaming around the property. Then one day, it was all gone, the man, the things, the dogs...we can only assume he passed away. Of course, we can never prove this story, or even that one of the dogs was Teddy, BUT I’m a firm believer that someone once loved Teddy before we got him and it fits that it would have been an older person.

Whoever put him chained to that crate at Haikey Creek, I don’t believe were his true owners. But they know what’s coming, should we ever find out who they are.

I’m not going to take this page down as it still gains followers every week. His story still makes the viral rounds and y’all deserve to know how his story ends. None of this story would have possible without the help of several kind individuals and The Oklahoma Alliance for Animals. These folks work tirelessly for dogs just like Teddy and they do a fantastic job. They’re the real hero’s.

I’m a firm believer that all dogs go to heaven and I sure hope there was someone up there waiting on him to cross the Rainbow bridge that loved him dearly, just as we did. And if that’s not the case, I personally know Heaven’s “local dog guy” and I know he will love him for us until we see him again.

Over the weekend the Humane Society of Tulsa was giving out dog beds and dog food. We happened to be in the area for a long term grocery run!

Teddy is absolutely enjoying his new bed and he hopes you’re all staying safe!

So we took family pictures this weekend. Teddy, as always, was in the middle of things doing what he does best. We did get one “good” pic with everyone in it! But let’s face it...he was only there for the snacks!
