When purchasing a working breed like German Shepards, Belgium Malinous, Australian Shepards etc. Remember these are very intelligent breeds that need alot of training and are use to having a job. Some can make great pets but I don't recommend choosing one with very high energy for a pet. A medium energy dog would be a great.

🛇 Use your Manners! 🛇
The Sniff test - Stop doing that!
The sniff test - a badly engrained habit that society has been taught, without a clear understanding of what they're actually doing.

🚩When you reach out towards a dog, you are using body pressure AT them, giving them no time to assess whether you are safe & whether they require further investigation to pick up your information. You are forcing an interaction of a relationship that hasn't had time to develop. To some dogs, this is quite rude & the reason a lot of dogs snap at or bite people. This can cause alot of behavioral issues because of layered stress due to forced interactions.

🚩If they are on lead, they have no where to go if they are sensitive to spacial pressure, so can end up shutting down, shying away or snapping at your hand so you back off. This is an example of how a dog is now using pressure to turn off pressure & make you back off so they aren't so stressed.

🚩People think by offering your hand it can give the dog time to sniff to know you're friendly... they can sniff without being forced to sniff your hand.Their noses are far more superior than ours & they don't need close contact forced upon them to smell you.

🚩Some dogs might not want to know you. You have no relationship with them and that's perfectly fine. They aren't your dog so you don't need to touch them or steal pats for your own satisfaction.

🤔 If you are meeting a dog, what should you do?
⚠Ask the owner if you can interact with their dog. Not all people want strangers touching their dogs. Especially strangers who you are unlikely to see again.
⚠Stand up straight & relaxed, with your hands at your side.
⚠Ignore the dog & talk to the owner.
⚠Don't stare at the dog & don't try to force an interaction by going in for a pat. If the dog wants to know you, it will come up to you & sniff around. Usually they will move away & then come back for a second sniffathon. Some dogs will bunt your hands & wag their tails, which are good signs that you're likely an accepted new friend. Give them a few slow pats down their back (NOT THEIR HEAD) & then stop. Is the dog happy? Has it accepted your interaction? This will determine whether you can give it more pats.

🐶This is a more stress free option for dogs & a reason why in consultations we can develop a good level of trust, especially with fearful dogs & aggressive dogs, without a bunch of negative side effects from forced interactions.

Please dog owners don't leave your dogs out even in the back yard during fireworks. Plenty of dogs will be so scared they will find a way to escape.

Dawn is amazing. We have a 5 month old AKC Bullmastiff who just refused to potty train. We chose Dawn to be our trainer after looking and speaking with several facilities we felt Dawn was the best fit for what we needed. She had our baby for 5 weeks and on pick up day he really was a whole new dog. So happy with the results and we as a family are much happier and less stressful at home now. Dawn was so sweet and a pleasure to work with and my dog fell in love with her. He gave her goodbye kisses as we was leaving. If your in need of a trainer I would highly recommend you choose Dawn as your trainer.

Socializing dogs from the time you bring them home until at least a year old is crucial to how they will turn out. I do mean outside of the household with other dogs and people away from home. They need the full spectrum of socializing to be a confident balanced dog.

Absolutely AMAZING!!! We adopted a 1year old Belgian Malinois named, Bellery, and knew right away that we needed help from a professional! Lol! Bellery was a good girl (at heart) but had several issues (anxiety, unfocused, stubborn, aggressive towards animals, pulled on lead, couldn't take on walks, dug holes in ground, nipped, disobedient, uncrateable, dominant, unable to control her by myself, and extremely hard to handle). We looked into several different training options for Bellery, and knew we needed a trainer who was familiar, and experienced with her breed. After talking with, Dawn, we knew immediately this was the place for our dog! We chose to do the Board in Training option for Bellery, for both on leash, and off leash training. She was there for a total of 5 weeks. It was hard being away from her for so long, but knew it was the right thing. When we went to pick her up, we were completely AMAZED!!! She truly is our good girl now!!! Every single issue had been resolved!!! She still has her sweet-fun personality, only now she's obedient, and calm! She even heels!!! On, and off leash! (total miracle)!:) Dawn trained us, too!:) Our life with Bellery has been incredible since we brought her home from K9 Academy! Dawn is AMAZING, and truly has a gift from God! It was definitely worth the investment, and I will always be grateful for Dawn's help.❤

The good thing about dog training and covid is we can still work on dogs with their owners at a distance or outside.

“My family brought me home, all cradled in their arms. They cuddled me and smiled at me and said I was full of charm. They played with me and laughed with me and showered me with toys. I sure did love my family, especially the little girls and boys.”

“The children loved to feed me; they gave me special treats. They even let me sleep with them – all snuggled in the sheets. I used to go for walks, often several times a day. They even fought to hold the leash, I’m very proud to say.”

“These are the things I’ll not forget – a cherished memory. Now that I’m in the shelter – without my family. They used to laugh and praise me when I played with that old shoe. But I didn’t know the difference between the old one and the new.”

“The kids and I would grab a rag, for hours we would tug. So I thought I did the right thing when I chewed the bedroom rug. They said that I was out of control, and would have to live outside. This I didn’t understand, although I tried and tried.”

“The walks stopped, one by one, they said they hadn’t time. I wish that I could change things; I wish I knew my crime. My life became so lonely in the backyard, on a chain. I barked and barked all day long to keep from going insane.”

“So they brought me to the shelter but were embarrassed to say why. They said I caused an allergy, and then they each kissed me goodbye. If I’d only had some training when I was a little pup, I wouldn’t have been so hard to handle when I was all grown up.”

“‘You only have one day left, I heard the worker say. Does that mean I have a second chance? Do I go home today?”

I see alot of people not socializing their dogs at an early age. Early socializing with dogs and people are crucial at an early age because that is their imprint for life. So that doesnt mean just meeting people at home that means outside of the home both dogs and people. I realize vets talk about vaccines is the reason alot of people dont take them out but by the second shot at 8-10 weeks old they are covered enough with the immune system.

When buying a pup you must assess the dogs personality to see if that fits in your life style.

Socializing your dog from a pup on up is crucial to a well rounded dog. They are social animals and when not introduced to all environments in life they will not be well balanced. You must take them out to socialize with people, other animals and different stimuli to get them use to the world just as you would a child.
