We continue to implement changes at Paws on Pearl as part of our pledge to increase transparency and communications to our clients and to the community.

Last week, our equipment arrived for installation. Testing is now complete and Paws on Pearl’s new, 24 hour live video is now available for our clients to view their pup’s playtime at any time.

The cameras are installed in each of the five indoor play areas covering approximately 2,500 sq feet and an additional camera for the outdoor play area.

The link is now online on our website at PawsOnPearl.com and the password is provided to our clients upon check-in each day.

Providing continuing education for our team members is key to ensuring our clients may regain confidence in the care their pups are receiving.

In order to accelerate the training course, we have invested in the Dog Handler Academy, an online comprehensive training program to help educate staff members of dog daycares, boarding facilities, shelters, grooming salons, and vet clinics who work with dogs.

We have enrolled all team members in an eight-course module which provides proper dog handling techniques and safety measures for a dog daycare and includes real-life scenario videos and quizzes.

As the course requires undivided attention, our 25 team members are completing these modules at home with pay. Management receives notifications and can track each team member’s progress until the course is complete.

All new team members are required to pass a background screening, complete the Dog Handler Academy course, and a 30-day probationary period as conditions for employment.

To all of our clients, the concerned dog lovers that are calling our office, and those commenting on social media – we hear you. We are reading your comments. We are listening to your feedback.

We hear you and understand you are speaking from the heart. We respect your love of dogs.

We placed our trust in the wrong person and we are sorry for allowing him to remain in place after the incident. In doing so, we broke the trust of our clients and our team members that had to work alongside him.

As a small business owner, we made a mistake and one that is unforgivable to many.

We can confirm the suspect has spoken with the City of Tulsa’s Office of Animal Welfare.

In my 16 years in this industry, I have never been a part of an investigation previously and our business has never been a part of an investigation. To assist, we are providing full access to our facility and have reached out proactively multiple times.

I want you to know this is not who we are. We are a small business who has worked to build a life in a city we love.

Like many of you, these last two years has brought havoc and chaos to all of our lives. We took our eye off the ball and we take full responsibility.

We understand that it will take time to rebuild trust among our clients and the community.

In the meantime, we want to ensure nothing like this can ever occur again and are committed to the following:

First – as soon we can receive and arrange for equipment installation, we are adding video cameras to provide a 24 hour live feed so the human parents may check in on their pup at any time.

Second – we will require background checks for all future employees.

Third – all employees are required to successfully complete a certified dog handling course. For our current team members, we will bring in a consultant to train on site.

Fourth, we commit to providing better communication to clients regarding the care of their dog – both positive and negative. IF there is an incident, we promise you will receive notice and an opportunity to discuss with your pup’s handler.

And lastly, we understand there are no established industry standards in Oklahoma for a business like ours. We could not point to a rule book or offer an example of dog-to-handler ratios. We would like to work with each of you and with the Office of Animal Welfare to change that.

We know we have a long, hard road ahead of us to regain your trust.

Admitting our mistakes is the first step and promising you that when, or if, we regain your trust that we will not repeat those mistakes.

Our clients are our friends, and their dogs are a part of our family.

We are a part of the fabric of the Pearl District neighborhood and extend an invitation to anyone concerned to visit our daycare for a personal tour.

Due to a large portion of our staff being out with COVID, we must run at half capacity through the end of this week (1/12 - 1/14). We ask that, if you can keep your pup(s) at home, please do. Otherwise, daycare will be operating on a reservation basis only. Please call (918)508-7362 to make a daycare reservation. Walk-ins will only be accommodated if there is room after reservations.
