EHV-1 is a highly contagious virus that can cause respiratory illness, late-term abortion, and neurologic disease.
The virus spreads through nasal discharge, aerosol droplets, contaminated tack and equipment, shared trailers or stalls, and even human hands and clothing. Horses can shed the virus before showing symptoms, which makes quarantine and biosecurity essential.

๐๐ ๐ฎ๐ค๐ช ๐๐ค ๐ฆ๐ช๐๐ง๐๐ฃ๐ฉ๐๐ฃ๐:
Biosecurity is critical. Keep exposed horses at least 30 feet away from others, avoid nose-to-nose contact, and use separate buckets, tack, and grooming tools. Disinfect all equipment and surfaces with a 1:10 bleach solution and allow them to dry completely before reuse. Routine veterinary appointments will be postponed for exposed horses, and emergencies will be handled for horses in quarantine on a case-by-case basis.
Vaccination is not recommended for horses with known exposure. Horses without exposure should receive an EHV booster if they have not been vaccinated in the past three months.
