Have you ever thought about what would happen if your pet ate something and you werenβt sure if it was toxic or not? Or what if you knew that it was toxic but they only had a little bit?
The first thing we recommend doing in these situations is calling ASPCA animal poison control! They will not only tell you whether or not your pet needs to be seen or if you can monitor at home, but will also give you a case number to share with your vet or the emergency vet to provide information about the amount of toxic material your pet ingested, what the toxic dose is, and help guide treatment either at home or in the hospital. While the wait to talk to a specialist when you call may be long, it is imperative for treatment, especially with less common toxins or those which the different amount ingested can drastically change the treatment recommendations.

Today is going to be a hot one, so we wanted to remind everyone about the dangers of heat stroke. Please keep your dogs inside as much as possible. If you are outside with them, please be sure they have access to water at all times.
If you are concerned your pet is overheating, they should be taken inside to a cool place. You can hose them down with cool, not cold water. Do not use ice at any time!
If your pet is weak, having trouble breathing or you feel they are declining, please take them to the closest, open emergency veterinarian for care.
