The Franklin County Regional Dog Shelter serves 22 towns in Franklin County, Massachusetts. The Friends is a 501c3 non profit corporation founded to improve the health and quality of life of local dogs. The Shelter supports Animal Control Officers and Law Enforcement Agencies in their efforts to protect the people and dogs of Franklin County.

Before our hike yesterday, Jodie dug through the toy box and found her new favorite toy!
If you have time for an energetic fun loving girl give the shelter a call to set up a meet and greet.
She is not good with cats and it’s recommended she be with older children due to her energy level and strength.

Meet Oreo. He is an affectionate, playful, and outgoing Husky mix. He came to us as a stray and is a huge love bug. He loves going for long walks but is still working on his leash skills. He is friendly with other dogs but we are not sure how he is with cats. Adoption fee is $250. Vaccinations are up to date.

Update: This little fellow has found his lost family and has gone home.

Does anyone recognize this little fellow! He was found yesterday behind the Erving Highway Department building. If you know this cutie pie please give us a call we would love to send him home.

We are not looking for foster homes or adopters at this time for him.

Another great hike in the Montague Plains with the shelter pups and volunteers.
If you would like to volunteer to be part of our hiking group please reach out to the Shelter directly. The hike is typically takes a couple hours from loading the pups up for the hike, the hike, and returning them back to the Shelter and we hike 2-3 miles during the winter months.

Does anyone recognize this intact male dog? He was found running on Route 91 in Bernardston. He has been safely caught and is safe at the Shelter. We would love to find his owners.

Sookie was working on her manners after playing with her toys. Great way to spend a soggy Thanksgiving.

Nora had some play time this Thanksgiving after her amazing breakfast. She spent a lot of time chasing the balls around and hanging out getting many pets and snacks.

Sable had a play date with an alumni this week. She loves to play with other dogs, splashing in the pool, and greeting all the volunteers each day. If you want a hiking buddy this girl is for you. Today one of our volunteers saw this silly girl put her empty breakfast dish on her bed, then she dumped out her water bowl and stacked it in the empty food dish. Call to schedule a meet and greet with Sable. (The lovely little black lab mix)

Sable loves to play! She’s a young girl full of energy! Please call us to arrange to meet her!

Ash still thinks it’s pool season. She was testing the water today while the pool was being filled. To learn more about her or to schedule a meet and greet with this young lady contact the Shelter Monday through Friday 9-2.

Our Story

The Franklin County Regional Dog Shelter serves 21 towns in Franklin County, Massachusetts. The Friends is a 501c3 non profit corporation founded to improve the health and quality of life of local dogs. The Shelter supports Animal Control Officers and Law Enforcement Agencies in their efforts to protect the people and dogs of Franklin County.

Our shelter has two paid staff and the rest of the work is done by dedicated volunteers. We would not be where we are today with their helping hands. Call our shelter and join our team.

Our mission is to protect and improve the lives of stray, lost and unwanted dogs by offering a safe, welcoming facility, providing care and enrichment, and finding a home best suited for each animal.
