🐾 PET OF THE WEEK 🐾 Hey guys, I’m Bronx! I’m a three-year-old boy, and like my namesake, I’m full of history and culture. Okay, maybe not history, but I sure am ready to explore new beginnings and experience new things!

I’m actually a shy boy who prefers the art of slow introductions, but once I warm up to you, I get really happy and my playful personality shines through! I love playing with other dogs and play time really brings out the best in me.

🐾 Happy Tail Tuesday! 🐾 We are so excited to hear an update about Bear's adoption story!

His parents wrote: It's been a little over a month now that we've owned Bear, or as you remember him, "Irish." He's doing very well, he's not aggressive towards other dogs or people, and he's basically a big do**us dog who wants to play all the time. He's definitely rough around the edges and we're working on his manners, but he's so happy being a part of a family. He just really wants to be loved, and luckily for him, we have plenty of love to give.

Bella, our 7-year-old puppy is starting to come around (she's still jealous but it's much better). Bear definitely has a personality, (he's a talker!). But when he acts up, he gets a time-out outside for 10 minutes, which he hates (he hates being away from the "pack"), and afterwards, he's very well-behaved. So many of you came to say goodbye to him when he left the shelter. He's a member of our family now and we will take good care of him. Thank you for all that you do.

OC Animal Care will be closed on Monday, November 11, in observance of Veteran's Day. Normal business hours will resume on Tuesday, November 12.

Staff will still be available to take in ill, injured, or lost pets; respond to emergency calls for service; and provide daily care, cleaning, and feeding for the animals at the shelter.

If you are in need of assistance, please call (714) 259-1122 and leave a message. Staff will be monitoring the line and respond as soon as possible.

OC Animal Care hosts the Family Fur-st Drive Thru Pet Pantry on the second Saturday of each month to provide important resources to pet owners in the community. All pet owners in the community in need of pet food are welcome!

🐾 Happy Tail Tuesday! 🐾 We are so happy to share an update on Charlie!

Charlie's parents wrote: We wanted to share an update on Charlie, formally Perry. After the loss of our beloved dog of 14 years, Sadie, we adopted our sweet boy, Charlie, from OC Animal Care. He has healed our hearts in so many ways and has literally rescued us! He has doubled in size, traveled to San Diego and Yosemite, and made friends with every human and dog we come in contact with. He loves playing in water, toys, belly rubs and car rides. He truly is another dog of a lifetime, and we are so grateful for him!

🚩 SAVE THE DATE 🚩 Our Free* Microchip Clinic is back! Join us on Saturday, November 16, 2024, from 8-11am, to microchip your pet!

🤎 Free microchip clinic for the first 100 dogs and cats
🤎 Limit 2 pets per household; all pets must be 8 weeks of age+
🤎 For safety purposes, all pets must be well-socialized
🤎 Dogs must be on a 6-foot leash or shorter at all times (no retractables)
🤎 Cats must be in a secure pet carrier at all times (no feral traps)

*Attendees must reside in an OC Animal Care contract city. A California ID or photo ID with a utility bill, rental/lease agreement, or similar document providing proof of residency in a contract city needed to participate in this event.

Contract cities include: Anaheim, Brea, Cypress, Fountain Valley, Fullerton, Huntington Beach, Lake Forest, Orange, Placentia, San Juan Capistrano, Santa Ana, Tustin, Villa Park, Yorba Linda, and the County unincorporated areas.

This month, adopt a wise and wonderful companion for just $7! The $7 Senior Pet Adoption Fee applies to all dogs and cats ages 7 years and older.

🎃 Happy Halloween! 🎃 Follow these tips to ensure a safe and happy holiday for you and your pet!

💡 Consider switching from candles to battery operated tea lights for your jack-o-lanterns.
🏠 Make sure your pet is in a crate or another room when handing out candy to trick-or-treaters.
🪪 Make sure your pet is wearing a collar with an ID tag.
👚 Pet costumes are fun, but make sure it is loose around your pet's neck and ribcage.
🐕 If your dog is stressed, consider walking your dog earlier to avoid the crowded sidewalks and costumed kids.
🍭 Keep candy out of your pet's reach.

Our Story

OC Animal Care promotes responsible pet ownership, the health and safety of people and animals and spay/neuter programs. Through public education, community outreach programs and shelter events, OC Animal Care encourages shelter adoption, animal rescue and community involvement through volunteerism. The Animal Care Center provides temporary shelter and medical care for "lost" owned or stray animals and opportunities for adoption of these animals. OC Animal Care also provides pet licensing and patrol services to 18 contract cities and all the unincorporated areas of Orange County. OC Animal Care houses and provides medical care for impounded dogs, cats and exotic animals.
