Back to School Separation Anxiety and Pets
Separation Anxiety can happen this time of year. Summer break is a fun time for kids but also pets. They like having all the extra attention and love that this time of year brings.

Pre-Surgery Bloodwork
We always offer pre-surgery or pre-anesthetic bloodwork because it gives us a really good inside look at the health of your pet before we go to surgery.
But why?
Sometimes we can catch health issues that we can't see before they become a problem and it can also help prevent complications during surgery.
Being able to see the bloodwork readings can be a "the more you know" moment
Thank you for being our personal assistant today, Arie!
Look at your pet's teeth. Are you surprised?

Grilling This Summer?
It's a great season to be outdoors and grill. BUT, grilling food such as corn on the cob, ribs, chicken on the bone, is not dog friendly and often gets stuck in the GI tract.
What does that mean? Surgery. We have to open up the abdomen and go get the foreign body that is stuck in there.
Make sure the leftover food, bones, and cobs are in the trash, away from where your dogs can get to them.
IF you think your dog did get into them and is in distress, give us a call 903-561-3211.
Heat Stroke and Dogs
We are entering the hot summer months and have already had a couple of heat stroke patients.
Be especially conscious during exercise and playtime, and make sure they have proper hydration and shade zones.
Dogs do not tolerate the heat as well as humans so be on the lookout for the first sign of heat stroke, fast excessive panting.
We want your opinion! Would you use a flea collar?
We want your opinion!
We prescribe a lot of Bravecto, but it's not right for everyone. We have a new collar option that works really well and lasts for seven months.
This is not your old-school collar from our childhood days, no more bad smell or powder.
Would you use a collar for flea prevention?
Cats Need Dentals Too!
You hear more about dental health and dogs but we don't want to ignore our feline friends.
Cats' teeth can be just as "bad" as dogs'. Plaque, tartar build-up, and infection can also happen in a cat's mouth, and it can be ouchy.
So take a look in there, what do you see? Time for a dental cleaning.
It's easy to schedule with us! Give us a call 903-561-3211 or schedule on our page.
Microchips are NOT a tracking device.
Microchips ARE a "tag" under the skin that can be scanned to help provide clients information that you uploaded into the microchip system.
Information usually includes - Name, Address, Phone Number
Keeping this information accurate and updated is super important so that we can contact you if your pet gets lost.

Parvo in East Texas.
Parvo is BAD all caps! It's ugly and it's awful and it's deadly.
The virus can live in the feces and soil for up to 7 months (SEVEN) just waiting for your happy puppy to come along and investigate. Parvo presents itself with bloody diarrhea, vomiting, and lethargy.
Why is it so deadly? The virus attacks white blood cells and the gastrointestinal tract of dogs (think of the virus eating the intestines) and in puppies, the virus also can damage the heart muscle.

Tyler, TX, will be in the path of totality during the Solar Eclipse on April 8th! It will be an exciting day, but will it have a negative effect on your pet?
*The short answer is no
Domesticated animals are used to artificial light and are used to this change from light to dark.
A change in the middle of the day relating to the solar eclipse should not affect their attitude or demeanor.
*Wildlife animals could seem a little more anxious but not a huge shift in attitude.
Have any questions, give us a shout!
It's Spring in East Texas.
We see this preventable disease more than anything else, combined.
By the time you see the signs of heart failure caused by heartworms, it's usually too late.
Do you see mosquitos in your backyard or where you live? That is what transmits heartworm disease.
The heartworm "grows up" into a spaghetti noodle size worm and lives in the heart, clogging it up, taking up all the space, and causes heart failure.
We have several options for heartworm prevention, including monthly, 6-month, and 12-month options. Message us on our page or give us a call at 903-561-3211 to schedule your spring appointment.
March is Animal Poison Prevention Month
This one can be tricky but it needs to be talked about. Marijuana, THC, gummies, edibles, whatever form it is, if your pet has ingested it, we need to know so we can HELP your pet, not pass any kind of judgment.
We don't care if it's yours, your neighbors, your kids', or if it came from outer space; we just need to know if it's a possibility so that we can treat your pet and flush the toxin from the system.
Symptoms can include- depression, ataxia, urinating without meaning to, muscle tremors, a stupor, even a coma!
