TAZ
Crazy how some dogs choose the weirdest things to resource guard! In his case it’s paper among other things too! He was unpredictable when he would guard!
PS- don’t take things away from your dog unnecessarily because THIS actually teaches the dog they NEED to guard because you are unpredictable and take things away!
For example- their food!!!! Some people brag how they can take away their dogs food and keep putting their hands into it 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️- please stop this crazy human behavior! This is not teaching the dog anything except they need to start guarding!
Thankfully his family reached out for help QUICKLY!
Resource guarding can become very aggressive and dangerous fast! So getting professional training as fast as possible is the best and safest choice!
Don’t let them practice the behavior—> practice makes perfect and strengthens, 💪 behaviors!

TAZ Board and Train
Want great recall??
It can be as simple as what I show you on this video! But it does take practice, consistency, dedication and rewarding high value!
It takes longer if you have already poisoned the cue- aka recalled then punishment followed.

TAZ Board and Train
First few days here and what his recall looked like compared to 2 weeks in 😍👏👏👏👏👏
ALWAYS keep recall high value!
♦️What’s high value to THEM!
NEVER recall then punish for something.
♦️“River come, bad dog for chewing this up”
Do NOT become the fun police!
♦️Only recalling when ending the fun.
Keep recall fun and happy! Be the reason they WANT to return to you!
PS- how about that 30 ft stay with distractions too 👏👏👏👏

Life Rewards—> keep the behaviors working! Don’t forget to use those new behaviors you taught them! If you don’t use them you lose them!!!! Just like working out in the gym. Gain the muscles but when you stop they leave 🤦🏻♀️!
Adding distractions—> I often see people setting their expectations WAY TOO HIGH when it comes to training and distractions! Dogs learn best when taught in a boring place (inside their home.) Once they master the behavior in one area then move to another and practice. Slowly increasing distractions!
Example:
1- Inside their home
2- Outside their home on porch
3- Outside their home in yard
4- Outside their home near road or slightly down the road
5- Inside their home bouncing a ball
6- Outside their home on porch bouncing a ball…..
See what I did there- dropped the place to an easier area when adding additional distractions!
One thing to ALWAYS remember👉 it is MUCH better to work slower because this builds a much stronger foundation so when you need it the most ( with high level distractions) it will be there!!!!
Quick- fast paced training- will definitely still train the dog BUT that foundation is no where near as strong and reliable- when needed the most!

When and How to name a behavior!
When:
1- Once you are confident the dog will do the behavior!
2- They have proven to you that they understand “what” you expect
3- If you’re willing to place a large bet the dog will do it 😆😉
How:
1- Say the verbal word
2- Pause, giving them a moment to make the connection (direct association learning)
3- Show them- do exactly what you were doing when they were proving to you they would do the behavior! 🙌
During one of those “ pauses” #2 ⬆️- they will in fact make the connection between the word and the behavior and just do it! YOU jackpot!
Congratulations! You’ve just trained your dog and set them up for success of reliability and only needing to ask ONE time! 👏👏👏👏
Now consistency and perfect practice will make the behavior stronger and stronger!

PS- I chose this particular video because it had the boo-boo. This way you can see exactly how to handle it!
TAZ Board and Train
TAZ has been with me a just over one week in this video! He was still learning Place!
We had done the foundation work and this video shows how to add duration and super low level distractions!
The little boo-boo in the video is the learning moment for most dogs. Never punish the mistake- we want to constantly encourage trying new things (thats training.) Punishment of any sort removes the desire to want to try therefore making training new behaviors much harder. Stay Positive!
