HAPPY NEW YEAR 🎉

Our story begins with us being the new kids on the block, dreaming of bringing a much needed additional dogcare option to Northern Kentucky. The summer of 2023, when we arrived at 214 Frogtown Road we saw a facility in extreme disrepair but we could also see an infrastructure capable of becoming a safe and enriching environment for dogs. Our Journey thus far has been full of twists and turns just like the road that our new doggy daycare is named after.

By now, you’ve realized that Frogtown Dogcare is owned and operated by my brother Jamaal and myself Rickey, our first joint business venture. Jamaal has a varied background from manufacturing to real estate and high end jewelry sales. Jamaal is one of those “jack of all trades” kind of persons. But when he doesn’t know how to do something he is such a fast learner, it soon becomes something that he now knows! In fact, Jamaal is responsible for all of the renovations that either he constructed and repaired himself or he managed the contractors who performed the work.

If you ever get confused about which of us is which I’m the older brother who has hair and he is the younger brother who is bald. 😂 As a big brother I believe this is a requirement that I tease him about this fact and I am now offering this for you to do the same, ha ha! Jamaal was always a ball of energy as a kid and still is to this day. Many of you who have high energy dogs now know as to why those dogs in particular love him so much. They simply vibe together.

Once we had our base infrastructure improved to the level that we could start accepting customers, I stepped more into the picture. I began my professional career working with animals at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden in 1992. I attended the “Zoo School” now known as the Zoo Academy. Did you know that there is a high school at the Cincinnati Zoo and it’s been in operation since 1974? This high school felt like a dream come true for me because I’ve always been fascinated by animals and the natural world ever since I was a small child.

While at the Zoo Academy I competed in Future Farmers of America competitions where, amongst other titles, our high school team took the 1st place title in the state of Ohio in Veterinary skills 1994. The year before I graduated from the Zoo Academy I had already began part-time employment in the Zoo’s bird house. I am still employed in that department as the Head Keeper 32 years later. You may have figured it out by now that I really love working with animals.

Back in the early 2000s I opened a dogcare facility in Cincinnati that eventually lead to the purchase of Gary’s Professional Dog Grooming (GPDG) in 2006. GPDG was originally founded in 1962 by the late Gary Jettner and may be the longest running dog grooming business in Cincinnati. At GPDG we offer dog grooming, dog training, and boarding. What this means is we aren’t new to dogcare just new to the area.

We feel so blessed and fortunate to have this opportunity to provide our style of dogcare to so many dogs that have needed a place away from home to call their home. It’s been a lot of hard work and there will be much more work as we continue to take steps toward upgrading our facility. Jamaal and I want to say Thank You for growing with us this far, we’ve had so much fun this year. We are so excited to enter 2025 with so many new furry friends and their families who have entrusted us with their care.
