Kids interested in horses? I just got our first a “saddle club” off the ground and am in the process of now adding more sessions and signups as we head into spring and summer!

During our sessions, children come to the farm (located in Union) and learn about horses! We get to groom, learn to tack, learn care, learn nutrition, learn horse first aid, play games, maybe do some crafts, and have a short riding or horse handling experience each week. This is a great way for parents to see if their children are interested in riding and whether they want to make the investment of committing to it as a sport. Each weekly meeting is 2 hours, supervised by me.

The cost is $50 per week, and sessions run 4-8 weeks. We have a session that just started and myself and the kids are really enjoying our time together! So, I am preparing to add some more sessions to the schedule! If you or your child is interested in joining a session, I made a group dedicated to this where you can stay updated and be the first to know about signups! Sign ups will be posted there.

Keep in mind, these groups are small to allow me to work with each person and understand their unique learning style and needs. SO SPACE IS LIMITED.

Age range at this time will be 6-15 but that’s not a hard limit. Children need to be able to follow rules and instructions as well as control their behavior in a safe way in order to join. I am planning to add more groupings and sessions in March—as well as an adult only group and even a “mommy/daddy and me” group! I would love to be inclusive as much as I can in what I offer as time goes on.

While we will have time in the saddle each week, this is not intended to be a formal riding lesson, but a way to get people/kids exposed and learning about horses, getting some fresh air, and making some friends! But…. It can also double as some kid-free time for parents to get an errand done!

Last, I do have the current signup sheet posted in the group but and will link it below too. The first group will be starting January 18th and I am offering very limited spots at this time (only 4 spots). This is for children ages 10ish-15ish but that’s not a hard limit. Definitely reach out if you have a kiddo interested!Each weekly Saturday session will be from 11am-1pm. Children will learn all about horses as well as how to groom them, learn about our tack and equipment, how to lead a horse, how to care for them outside of riding, horse first aid, horse anatomy, and much more! Each child will also get some short time in the saddle each week adjusted to their learning speed and individual needs. We will also play games and likely do some crafts—plus burn some energy and make new friends!

The sessions are $50 a week with a 50% deposit due at sign up to hold your child’s spot and the remaining due January 17th. The sessions build off each other so it’s important your child is able to commit to the entire session.

I have one more lesson slot available for a new student needing the use of a lesson horse in Union, KY. This available slot is for Thursdays at 6pm. Once it is filled, I may not have more availability for another month or two.

*NOW ACCEPTING NEW STUDENTS*

I made the decision to retire our “lesson horse extraordinaire” (Romeo) about a year ago. When I did this, I decided to no longer offer lesson horses as part of my program. There were a variety of reasons for this decision at that time.

However, I am thrilled to announce I now have the opportunity to use some really awesome horses to get that part of my program going again! Space will be very limited so if you’ve been wanting to get yourself or your kiddo started in lessons, now is the time to reach out! I expect spots to fill quickly and once full, I will start a waiting list.

Lessons will be in Union, KY.

More about me, the instructor: I grew up riding and showing hunter/jumper as well as spending some years in the dressage world. My program is small, intimate, and individually tailored to each student’s needs. In addition to my 30+ years riding and showing, I have been teaching lessons for close to 10 years now and also have a degree in psychology and background in recreation therapy. I not only love to share my passion about horses others, but I love taking it a step further to apply it to every day life as a way of self-care, confidence building, anxiety relief, and much more. Riding is not just about riding—it is so much more and adds an incredible amount of enrichment to our lives!

Congratulations to Ms. Kennedy and her sweet boy, Taylor, on a wonderful 2023 show year!! Tonight she received 3 champions and a reserve from the Kentucky Hunter Jumper Association! Kennedy also received a reserve circuit champion at World Equestrian Center Wilmington AND an overal high point award and two champion standing placings at Lakeside Arena!

Last show of the year for this kiddo! We’re having fun showing at Lakeside Arena in Frankfort, KY! Kennedy and Taylor are being total rockstars as always. We are all so excited for her to officially move up after this show!! 🤩
