The freezing temperatures are here...What you need to know:

It is going to say freezing until Sunday afternoon.

*Prolonged periods of extreme cold is not survivable for dogs in our area!

Dogs need more than a dog house and shavings. They need either a heat lamp, heat pad OR

BRING THEM INDOORS WHERE IT IS WARM!

State Law and County Ordinances require that you provide your pets with SHELTER THAT PROTECTS THEM FROM THE ELEMENTS OF WEATHER!

This includes Extreme Temperatures!

Have a good holiday and don't risk having to go to the emergency vet. If you've considered getting one of these for your dog or a friend's dog, just don't! Please.
Benebones, antlers, no-hide chews, cow tracheas, beef tendons, bully sticks, yak chews... These are all much healthier options! 🎄🐾🤎

Keep Your Best Friends Safe at Home
In Union County, dog owners are legally required to keep their pets on a leash or under direct control when off their property. Not only is this the law, it makes good sense!

Pets kept indoors or comfortably confined inside a fenced yard are protected from dangers such as other animals, people with ill-intentions, and traffic. Remember that cats need this protection, too.

Be prepared in case your pet does get away.
A pet — even an indoor pet — has a better chance of being returned when wearing a collar and an ID tag with your name, address, and telephone number.

Write up a complete description of your pet including any identifying information today, so that you won’t have to rely on your memory when you are worried about Tigger or Rover. And be sure to keep current pictures of your pet.

City of Union Residents!!

Any Animal Control issues or Code Enforcement please call 429-1700 to report issues. City of Union is not contracted any longer with the County for Animal Control or use of the Animal Shelter. This is all we know at the moment and will update as we get information. As far as questions and Concerns please call the City at the number posted above.

Union County Animal Control and Code Enforcement have 4 brand new trucks. Please don’t be alarmed as they are already in use and legit, they will soon have decals added. Always feel free to ask for badges if approached by an officer.

We will be having another cat/ dog food drive thru tomorrow. We are limited this time around. ALL I ask is if you can afford to buy it, please let the ones that truly can’t take advantage of this. Times are ruff right now for everyone, i get that. Some pets truly need this. Please be considerate.

Stay tuned for some PAWsitive changes with Animal Control in Union, SC. We thank our County Supervisor for working hard to bring to light our need for a 2nd officer and our County Council for listening and approving the addition of a 2nd officer. As many know we have ran off of only 1 officer for many years serving the entire Union County/ City. Union has officially hired 2 new officers and we are stoked to introduce them soon!
We are looking at great changes for our people and animals of our community.

💗Rescues and Shelters deal daily with the consequences of other peoples actions. Those, “consequences” come in all shapes, sizes and demeanors. They are normally furry. Some are healthy, some are sick, some are injured, some are happy, some are scared. Some expect kindness, some expect abuse, some expect nothing because they have never had anything. Dogs, puppies, cats, kittens, the occasional goats, pigs, birds, the list goes on…
Regardless of why or what animals come into care, they need the basics, food/water, shelter, vetting, humane care. Those are only possible because of the kindness of others. The followers of this page never cease to amaze me. Through your donations and your shares the Union County SC Animal Shelter van got packed not once, but twice yesterday and I’m sure the same will be done today. Filled with food, treats and even some toys! While we’d love to clear the shelters, that’s not currently possible, so instead we support them any way we can.
I am profoundly grateful for the support you show this little shelter time and time again!💗

We are working towards some solutions to better serve our community for Animal Control calls. Please make note of these changes effective immediately. Union County SC. After several of weeks of trying to brain storm some solutions. We hope this will make a positive change on Animal Related Issues. Please also keep in mind, we still at this time only have 1 Officer serving the entire County.

For true animal related emergencies call 911.
For welfare checks and animal complaints please call 864-429-1666.
Our animal control hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8 AM until 5 PM. Animal control does not handle wildlife, we deal with domesticated animals only. Officers do not pick up or remove deceased animals from yards or roadways.

We often get asked, “why do you transport dogs to the Northeast?” These people waited in line to meet southern rescue dogs at our rescue partner’s () event. 22 of the 32 dogs were either adopted or had deposits made. These 22 dogs would likely have never been adopted from the southern shelters from which they originated. Now they will have happy lives as members of loving families.
